Abstract

WHO has recommended exclusive breastfeeding from newborns to six months old. Exclusive breastfeeding means that the baby receives only breast milk, does not get fluids or other food, even water, except vitamins, minerals, or drugs. Breastfeeding alone is exclusively believed to have a positive influence on infant motor development in the early months of life. This study aims to determine the relationship between the history of exclusive breastfeeding with the development of gross motor and fine motor skills in infants aged 6-12 months in the work area of Tabaringan Health Center in Makassar City. This study used a cross sectional design with 40 respondents aged 6-12 months, who were chosen by consecutive sampling. Data collected included the characteristics of the baby, history of breastfeeding, as well as the results of the assessment of gross motor and fine motor development using the Denver II test form. Bivariate analysis using Chi-square test. In this study, it was found that as many as 55.0% of infants did not receive exclusive breastfeeding. There were 42.5% of infants experiencing delays in gross motor development, and 42.5% of infants were suspected of having delays in fine motor development. The results of the bivariate analysis showed that the pattern of exclusive breastfeeding had a significant relationship, with a p-value = 0.023. However, it did not show a significant relationship with fine motor development (p = 0.236). The pattern of exclusive breastfeeding had a significant relationship with the gross motor development of infants, with a significance value of 0.023, but did not have a relationship with fine motor development in infants aged 6-12 months. Keywords: exclusive breastfeeding; gross motoric; fine motoric; baby development ABSTRAK WHO telah merekomendasikan pemberian ASI Eksklusif dari bayi baru lahir hingga berusia enam bulan.
