Senter ( ) adalah himpunan semua elemen yang komutatif dengan setiap elemen dalam ring . Elemen-elemen yang saling komutatif dengan karakteristik tertentu membentuk struktur komutator. Lebih lanjut komutator merupakan dasar bagi terbentuknya identitas-identitas komutator.
