Abstract

Background: The family planning program is one of the government's programs in reducing the birth rate. The use of hormonal contraception is the most of all types of contraception used in the community, although there are so many side effects from its use. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of education on the handling of side effects on the knowledge, attitudes and anxiety levels of hormonal family planning acceptors at the Makassar City General Hospital. Methods: This type of research is quantitative with a quasi-experimental research design with a one group pretest posttest design approach. The population in this study were all acceptors of hormonal family planning at the Makassar City Regional General Hospital as many as 207 people. The number of samples as many as 53 people using the Lameshow formula. The sampling technique used purposive sampling with statistical tests using the Nonparametric Wilcoxon Test. Results: The results of the Wilcoxon Rank Test obtained a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05), meaning that there was an influence of education on handling side effects on the knowledge, attitudes and anxiety levels of hormonal family planning acceptors at the Makassar City Regional General Hospital. Conclusion: It is hoped that the acceptor mothers will increase their knowledge by always seeking information about the side effects caused by the use of hormonal contraception and be more active in participating in health education carried out by midwives. So that acceptors who are knowledgeable enough will be more positive and can manage the stress they experience when side effects arise.
