Abstract

Water is an absolute necessity for mankind on this planet earth. We need water for almost everything we do, from starting drinking water to using water in household, at the office as well as for industrial works. As a result of these activities wastewater is produced as a by-product of it. Considering that some kinds of wastewater can be harmful for the environment this wastewater has to be treated before releasing it into the environment. This article deals with the design of a wastewater treatment facility at a factory for bottled tea drinks. The wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) was designed for a capacity of 450 m3 / day (20 m3 /hour) of wastewater, using an aerobic treatment system as process. The whole system consist of following treatment stages: A fat, oil & grease (FOG) trap ; a solid particle screen system ; neutralization tank ; equalization tanks (2 units) ; a primary clarifier ; a two stage oxidation ditch system ; a secondary clarifier ; sludge control system and finally a control tank before releasing the effluent. Laboratory test of the effluent proves that all values were below the required limits.
