Abstract

Chlorophyll-a is a green leaf substance found in phytoplankton and is an active substance in plant cells which has an important role in the process of photosynthesis in waters. This research aims to determine the distribution of chlorophyll-a in the waters of Kendari Bay. This research was conducted in June 2023. Data collection in this research was a direct survey method (Insitu). The research location is divided into six observation stations. The results of this research show contradictory current patterns between tidal and ebb currents which are influenced by tidal currents. So the current at high tide moves towards the West and Southwest, while at low tide it moves towards the East and Northeast, with an average speed of 0.122 m/s. The chlorophyll-a content value at high tide ranges between 0.434-1.134 mg/m³, while the chlorophyll-a content value at low tide ranges from 0.739-1.981 mg/m³. The results of a simple linear regression test in looking at the relationship between current speed and chlorophyll-a distribution obtained a regression value of 0.155, this value is in the category of low level of relationship. Where the current speed has a small influence in distributing the distribution of chlorophyll-a. The high distribution of chlorophyll-a towards low tide occurs due to runoff from rivers and canals that empty into the coast of Kendari Bay which originates from the mainland and carries nutrient content. The low chlorophyll-a content during high tide occurs due to the influx of water from outside the bay which lacks nutrient compounds. Based on the results of the analysis of the distribution of chlorophyll-a in the waters of Kendari Bay during the research, it was classified as low (ologotrophic) to sufficient (mesotrophic)
