Abstract

Political education is a process of deriving the basic values ​​and norms of a country's ideology which is carried out consciously, organized and planned and continues continuously from one generation to the next in order to build the nation's character. Politics plays an important role in shaping the values ​​and behavior adopted by society, both through public policy, leadership and public discourse. The role of politics in forming the characteristics of society, among others: (1) political education shapes the political personality of the community, (2) political education shapes the political awareness of the community, (3) political education shapes the political participation of the community. This research is library research which is qualitative in nature. The aim of political education is as a medium for conveying political concepts which has the ultimate goal of making citizens more politically literate and aware of their rights and obligations so that they can participate in the life of the nation and state in every development process. Apart from that, it also provides guidance to Indonesia's young generation to increase awareness of national and state life. Political education as a means of increasing national and state awareness has a legal basis that adheres firmly to the philosophy and personality of the Indonesian nation, which plays a very large role in shaping the characteristics of society, including the following: (1) political education forms the political personality of society, (2) political education shapes people's political awareness, (3) political education shapes people's political participation.
