Abstract

This study is entitled "Character Education in the Acehnese Idiom in the Kuala Batee Community of Southwest Aceh”. The Acehnese idiom was used as a support in advising and as a means of maintaining existing norms in the society. A Society is one of the most influential molders of character education because of its interactions. The values of traditional culture are recognized by all levels of the society in the regions and nationalities that become national identities. Not only culture, local languages also need to be used in daily interactions in society so that they do not experience a serious decline, which will eventually disappear over the time. In this case, the Acehnese Idiom became a medium to spread the value of character education to the next generation. The purpose of this study is to describe the Acehnese expressions that contain the values of character education in the community of Kuala Batee Southwest Aceh. The method of this research is a descriptive qualitative. Interview was used as an instrument. In this study, 8 subjects are chosen using purposive sampling that consist of tuhapheut and village elders in the community. The location of this study is in Kuala Batee District, Southwest Aceh.  There are 18 character values in the Acehnese Idiom in the community of Kuala Batee, Southwest Aceh which consists of; religious, honest, tolerance, discipline, hard work, creative, independent, democratic, curiosity, national spirit, love of the homeland, respect for achievement, friendly/communicative, love peace, love to read, care for the environment, social care and responsibility. The expressions found in the Kuala Batee community are in the form of one line, two lines, three lines and four lines. The Acehnese idiom in the community of Kuala Batee Southwest Aceh is in the oral form which has its own meaning and use as an advice relating to divinity, self, others and the environment. Based on the above conclusions, the author suggests the community to preserve the Acehnese idiom so that it becomes a legacy for the next generation. To the government, it is hoped that they will support to publish references related to Acehnese idioms and other types of folklore related to Acehnese culture so that they can add references to other studies.

Abstract

Peer tutors are used for students assigned to help with learning difficulties because the relationship between friends is closer than the relationship between teachers. The selection of the Peer Tutor learning model is beneficial for students working on material to their peers. The research objective was to improve student learning outcomes by applying the Peer Tutor method on Asynchronous Online Communication material in class X PBS SMKN 3 Lhokseumawe. The results showed that student learning outcomes on Asynchronous Online Communication material increased from cycle I to cycle II. In cycle I of 28 students with 22 students completeness, the average score was 74.1, and the percentage level of learning completeness was 78. , 6% and an increase in cycle II, namely as many as 25 students completed learning from 28 students, the average score was 77.8, with the percentage level of learning completeness of 89%, and the level of student activity in learning increased, such as discussing activities with friends. The group in cycle I amounted to 11.90% and increased in cycle II by 16.28%, which impacted student learning outcomes. The conclusion is that the Peer Tutor method can be used in the learning of Digital Communication and Simulation, which positively impacts students' learning outcomes on Asynchronous Online Communication material for class X PBS students of SMKN 3 Lhokseumawe. Furthermore, it can be used as an alternative to learning in other materials.

Abstract

This article aims to review some discussions on literature learning in Indonesian schools before the pandemic, highlight the real problems, and propose a new model of learning during and after the pandemic. This is a qualitative narrative article. This article interconnects between the references and the writer’s personal experience in tackling the problems and proposing solutions. Based on the findings, literature learning in Indonesian schools needs to be made more challenging and fun for students by refreshing the benefit of literature learning within Indonesian literature teachers’ minds which is expected to change the teachers’ perspective on literature learning into something positive and beneficial in literature learning as well as the use of the internet and digital information technology which serves as students’ new learning environment in developing Higher-Order Thinking Skills and 4C skills (critical thinking & problem solving, communication, collaboration, dan creativity & innovation). Meanwhile, the introduction of basic knowledge on the sociology of literature, reader-response criticism, and intertextuality to students will give them a certain framework and direction needed in a critical and challenging reading of literary work. This can be applied in literature learning during and after the pandemic.

Abstract

Learning the Quran and Hadith is one of the subjects given at Madrasah Tsanawiyah. Ideally, this learning effectively achieves the goals of National education, especially those related to understanding the main points of Islamic teachings and the proper way of practicing them in everyday life. Preliminary studies indicate that learning the Quran and Hadith is still not able to achieve the goals or ideals outlined by the curriculum. The Quran and Hadith material still dominantly emphasizes memorization/knowledge and is still far from solving problems (problem-solving skills). This study aims to develop learning the Quran and Hadith to instill the values of social care and become learning that challenges students' intellect and curiosity. The method used in this research is Research and Development, which steps in the form of a Preliminary Study, Development, and Product Testing. The development of the Social Inquiry model in learning the Quran and Hadith is significantly proven to be able to the teacher's social inquiry stating that in implementing learning, developing student creativity increases in learning. It can be interpreted that learning the Quran and Hadith based on social inquiry is practical to be implemented.

Abstract

This study was aimed to examining EFL students’ perception towards plagiarism, factors triggering students to plagiarize in completing their undergraduate theses and their strategies in avoiding plagiarism. The study, conducted at English Language Education Department, in one of the universities in Indonesia, employed a qualitative method approach aiming at getting more information and a detailed description of social or human issues. Ten alumni who were randomly selected agreed to participate in this study. Selected participants were interviewed to collect required information needed to address research questions of this study. Besides interviewing the students, the researchers also analyzed their theses in order to examine the level of plagiarism by using Turnitin software, the result of which showed that the range of similarities index in students’ theses varied from 16 to 36 %. The findings of the study revealed that there were three strategies that students implemented to avoid plagiarism;  paraphrasing and quoting others' ideas, understanding the meaning of plagiarism, and using the lectures' particular method and online plagiarism detection software. Furthermore, the study found that the factors influencing students to plagiarize were related to time limitation on an assignment and poor time management, ease of using online sources, lack of understanding to plagiarism, and poor understanding of plagiarism acts.

Abstract

National Council Of Teacher Of Mathematics (NCTM) said that learning Mathematics goals develop five basic abilities, namely problem solving, communication, connection, reasoning, and representation. These five abilities are essential to be considered and assured its accomplishment. Thus, developing these five abilities cannot be separated because they contribute to one another. While in fact, these five Mathematics abilities of students are still low. This research aimed to know the development of these five basic Mathematical abilities through structured tasks using the blog and explaining the importance of basic Mathematical skills in math learning and how Mathematics builds basic math skills to students. One of them is to implement a blog-assisted structured task method. This research sample was five classes from 11 class X MAN 1 Aceh Barat and 1st grade from 2nd grade X SMA Unggul Tunas Bangsa, Aceh Barat Daya selected with random sampling. The data collection instrument was a written test of the five basic Mathematical abilities and interviewing few students. The Data was analyzed using T-Test. The results of the analysis showed that not all basic abilities developed. From these five basic mathematical abilities, three basic Mathematical abilities developed, namely problem solving, connections, and communication. In comparison, the other two capabilities did not develop, namely reasoning and representation.

Abstract

Teachers play important roles in developing students’ talents. This paper focuses on the roles of teachers in talents development from teachers and deputy head of students’ affairs perfective. They are deputy head of SMK 1, SMUN 4 and MAN 2 Langsa. The purpose is to clarify about teachers understanding of talents in secondary schools in Langsa and what’s the role of teachers in developing students’ talents. A qualitative research by interview conducted among teachers and the deputy head of students affairs show that there are several roles taken by teachers in developing students’ talents. They are (1) parent partners, (2) role models, (3) organizers, (4) motivators, (5) facilitators, and (6) supervisors. However, most teachers understand talents only come from five senses. As a result the currents focus of developing talents in high schools is about field talents while talents come from nature (characters) is not nurtured yet.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the online-based learning strategy in the form of variables to consider in online learning, the role of parents in online learning, government policies in online learning during the new normal period, and evaluation of online learning in the form of student attitudes towards online learning in the new normal period. The research method is literature study and survey by distributing questionnaires. The population of students at two Senior High Schools in Bandung Regency, the sample of students who filled out the google form amounted to 740 students at two Senior High Schools in Bandung Regency. The research instrument was in the form of a questionnaire distributed via the google form application. The results show that several important points are needed in online-based learning as follows: it is necessary to pay attention to variables in online learning, the role of parents, government policies, and the results of the evaluation of online mathematics learning from students.
