Abstract

Due to the significant impact of client performance on overall project performance and the interdependence of participant%5C%27s performance in the construction project coalition %28i.e. clients%2C designers and constructors%29%2C there is a need to establish client performance measures. Based on data collected from in-depth interviews with nineteen UK architects and nine UK contractors%2C a generic tool for the on-going formal assessment of client performance is presented. It was found that this approach to performance assessment %28i.e. from the view point of other%2C non-client coalition participants%29 should lead to improved project relationships. Data analysis showed that in addition to %5C%27harder%5C%27 measures such as understanding of project requirements and finance%2C other%2C %5C%27softer%5C%27 measures of client performance %28e.g. attitude%29 were worthy of consideration since they determine the quality of participant relationships. It is recommended that the tool be used to promote more effective client performance and thus enhance coalition relationships%2C enabling continuous improvement. The ultimate aim is to develop similar tools for the assessment of all coalition participants based on a culture of openness and trust. Abstract

In this research, micro-organism based admixture called Road Tech 2000, is used to stabilize expansive soil taken from West Surabaya area. The laboratory experiments conducted comprise soil characteristics, swelling potential, and shear strength determination. The results show that Road Tech 2000 is able to maintain the moisture content of the soil, reduce its plasticity (PI), and decrease its swelling potential. The addition of Road Tech 2000 does not affect the strength of the expansive soil, in terms of Unconfined Compressive Strength UCS and CBR. However, a significant strength increase was observed in the soaked CBR test.

Abstract

Elementary School is a common location for traffic congestion especially every morning. This condition can be avoided if the elementary school planner can predict the trip generation of that school. The aim of this research is to make a mathematical model of trip generation for elementary school land use at Surabaya. Research has been done to eight private elementary school using Pearson Correlation Analysis, Simple Regression Analysis, and Stepwise Regression Analysis to obtain the most significant trip generation model. Arrival rate and service rate distribution was analyzed using Chi-Square Distribution Fitting method to obtain arrival rate and service rate characteristic. From the analysis, the most significant trip attraction model is Y = -867,9 + 194.Log X1 + 274.Log X8 + 177.Log X5, in which Y is number of student vehicle, X1 is number of elementary student, X8 is total area of classroom, and X5 is classroom capacity. The most significant trip production model is Y= -797,2 + 311.Log X1 + 164.Log X8 +79.Log X15, in which Y is number of student vehicle, X1 is number of elementary student, X8 is total area of classroom, and X15 is ratio between number of teacher and classroom. Several elementary school characteristics that influence traffic congestion are: number of student, number of queue lane, number of entrance, and vehicle occupancy. Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia : Sekolah dasar merupakan salah satu lokasi yang sering mengalami masalah kemacetan lalulintas.

Abstract

Issues related to pricing strategy in the Indonesian construction industry are covered%2C including problems of current pricing strategy in construction%2C exploration of pricing strategies with a market-based approach%2C and survey findings of the top Indonesian contractors regarding their current pricing practices and the applicability of market-based pricing strategy models developed by Mochtar and Arditi. Comparisons with similar survey findings of the top U.S. contractors are conducted whenever possible. In conclusion%2C the belief that current pricing strategy in construction is predominantly cost-based is confirmed by the survey findings%3B indeed%2C in setting the markup%2C most contractors rely on subjective assessment of the competition. Using simulated bidding scenarios%2C it is discovered that Indonesian contractors tend to be more market-based as they know more about the owner%5C%27s characteristics%2C competitors%5C%27 characteristics%2C and market demand. Consequently%2C the implementation of bidding procedure proposed by Mochtar and Arditi is supported. To maximize the benefits of market-based pricing strategies%2C the bidding procedure change should be explored by all parties involved in the Indonesian construction industry. Abstract

Stabilization is one of several methods to reduce swelling potential of expansive soils. In this experiment, a mix of lime (Ca) and rice husk ash (RHA) was used to stabilize the expansive soil. Sixty to eighty percent of lime content used to stabilize soil was replaced with rice husk ash. The result shows that the addition of 24% lime increases the strength of the soil up to 400%, if 60% of lime content is replaced with rice husk ash, the increase dropped to 300%. In general, a mix of 40% lime and 60% rice husk ash could reduce swelling potential, up to below 1%, and increase the strength of expansive soil. Optimum curing needed to achieve maximum strength of the mix is 14 days.

Abstract

Recently, displacement-based seismic design concept is being developed. According to this concept, structures are designed based on a certain displacement target. This paper presents the application of the displacement-based design concept to reinforced concrete bridge piers of 3, 5, 7, 9 11,and 13 m height. The design results are then analyzed by inelastic time history analysis using Ruaumoko computer program. The results of inelastic time history analysis show that for bridge piers with height 7 m or more, the actual drifts relatively fit the design drifts, while for the 3m and the 5m height piers, the actual drifts are significantly less than the design drifts. Abstract in Bahasa Indonesia : Akhir-akhir ini sedang dikembangkan metode perencanaan seismik struktur dengan konsep berbasis perpindahan.
