Abstract

The aim of study was to know the effect of sludge in the ration on the gonadal growth of Oreochromis sp. broodstock. Experimental design used in this experiment was completely Randomized Design. The broodstocks were fed with the ration containing 0-40% of sludge, or with a commercial fish feed as a control.The results were not significantly differences between the treatment in all parameters. The sludge in ration ranging from 0 to 40% resulted the level of gonadal maturation of 4, 6, 7, dan 9. The value of Gonadal Maturation Index on 0,96 to 3,98 % and the control group on 1,75 %. The specific growth rate of broodstock fed with the ration ranged from 1,1 to 1,62 Bw/day and that of the development of gonadal control group was 1,97. The survival rate were variated between 14,29 to 100% and that of the development of gonadal control group is 71,43%. The ration containing 40% sludge is the most suitable feed for maturation in Oreochromis.

Abstract

The experiment was carried out to know the effect of supplemental dietary 17 methytetosterone (MT) on growth enhancement of red tilapia (Oreochromissp.). Fry smaller than 14 mm was given MT at 0 (control) and 60 mg/kg of feed for 28 days for masculinization. After masculinization, the fish were fef with MT at 0 (control), 1, 5, and 10 mg/kg of feed for 60 days to enhance the growth. The results showed that masculinization using MT at high dosage (60 mg/kg) was able to produce 96% of males fry at low dosage (1 – 10 mg/kg) also enhanced the growth of fishes. The highest growth rate 30% was observed at 10 mg MT/kg of feed. The growth enhancement was more effective in masculinized fry.

Abstract

Application of remote sensing and geographic information system (GIS) for planning of biocrete shrimp ponds development was studied in the coastal area between Opak River and Progo River, Bantul Regency. Analysis of land suitability for biocreteshrimp pond used a multi-scoring of some physical variables, i.e. slope, soil texture, distance from coast line, distance from river, annual rainfall, flooded frequency, and landuse. Spatial analysis used a GIS software (ER Mapper 5.5, ARC/Info 3.5 and ARC/View GIS 3.2). The results showed that suitable land fotbiocreteshrimp pond was 73,6 ha. It found on beach ridge area that was distributed at Srandakan, Sanden, and Kretek Region. However, considered on the Detail Planning of Spatial Arrangement at Southern Coastal of Bantul Regency (RDTK PantaiSelaatnKabupatenBantul) and suistanable aquaculture planning, the development of biocrete shrimp ponds should be limited to 36,8 ha (50%), i.e. 18,4 ha ponds at Srandakan and 18,4 ha ponds at Sanden. Biocrete shrimp ponds had to be built at distance about 300 m from cost line.

Abstract

Fish naturally has a non-specific defense against several pathogens. The non-specific defense is anatomical and physiological function that varies according to genetical and environmental factor. The differences of non-specific defense against Aeromonas hydrophila infection were studied in blackfinpacu (Colossoma macropomum), gourami (Osphronemus goramy), common crap (Cyprinus carpio), African catfish (Clarias gariepinus), and red nile tilapia (Orochromis sp.). This study also examined the differences on several parameters of non-specific defense, including differentiation anc number of leucocytes, serum total, titer of antibody, and antibacterial activity of skin mucus.The fishes were intramuscularly infected at the media lethal doses for common carp (7,4 x 108cfu/fish). Pathological changes, survival rate, and mean time to death were observed every day. The observation of non-specific defense parameters were carried out prior and at seven day after infection.The results showed thahblackfinpacu was the most resistant species against A. hydrophila infection. African catfish and red nile tilapia were most resistant than gourami and common carp. The antibody titer and percentage of thrombocytes were the causative factor for the difference of the resistence against A. hydrophila. The five fish species also showed differences on leucocytes number, monocytes and eosinophiles percentage, and serum total, but they did not showed the differences of neutrophile percentage. The skin mucus of all fish species did not exhibited antibacterial activity against A. hydrophila. This study also found increase in antibody titer and leucocytes number after A. hydrophila infection.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to know the length-weight relationship and condition factors of Mullet (L. subviridis) in Lereng Lagoon Purworejo Regency. The samples were collected monthly from February until May 2002. Total lengths and weights of the fish samples were measured. The length-weight relationships and relative condition factors measured were analyzed, and then t-test and least significant different test were conducted for length-weight relationships and relative condition factor respectively.The results indicated that the total length of Mullet had positive correlation to weight during observation. The length-weight relationships revealed that the slope values were significantly lower than 3 (allomatric growth) for each month of observation. The values of relative condition factors are vary from 0,9987 to 1,0162 for each size group for in all months.
