Abstract

Teaching materials are one of the important factors that determine the success of the learning process. The research objective was to develop a circulation system teaching material based on Moodle's LMS which is oriented towards increasing students' scientific literacy. The development model used was Thiagarajan 4D (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate), to the stage of feasibility testing (develop). The subjects in this study were validators of media experts, material experts, language experts, teachers and students. The data collection technique was carried out using a questionnaire to measure the validity of the open material. The results showed that the circulation system teaching materials based on the LMS-Moodle, which were oriented towards increasing scientific literacy, had an average score of 3.50 (very valid) from a maximum value of 4.00 from all aspects. Based on the results of the research, it is shown that the teaching materials of the circulation system based on the Moodle LMS which were developed to increase scientific literacy are very valid to be used as learning media for the circulation system in schools and are expected to improve students' scientific literacy.

Abstract

Digital literacy and scientific literacy are needed in the world of education as an effort to make students have 21st century competencies. This study aims to determine the relationship between digital literacy and scientific literacy together with cognitive biology learning outcomes of SMA N 16 Semarang students during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research is correlational quantitative research. The population of this study were students of class XI SMAN 16 Semarang with a total of 108 students. Sampling technique was using saturated sampling. Data collecting techniques were using questionnaires for digital literacy variables and tests for scientific literacy and cognitive biology learning outcomes. Hypothesis testing was using multiple correlation. The results showed that there was a positive and significant relationship between digital literacy and scientific literacy with cognitive biology learning outcomes, with a significance value of 0.00 ˂ 0.05, a large correlation value of 0.474 (medium correlation), and a coefficient of determination of 20.4%. It is important for teachers and students to apply digital literacy and scientific literacy to improve cognitive learning outcomes.

Abstract

The development of learning media in the form of COVID-19 digital comics using Flip PDF Professional is based on the background that the learning media used by SMA Negeri 2 Sekampung teachers are still in the form of textbooks and powerpoints, and there are still many students who do not understand the virus and educational material related to COVID-19, so it is necessary to develop a learning media innovation in the form of COVID-19 digital comics to make learning fun and not boring by combining viral material. Comics were chosen because its presentations are interesting, simple and have a storyline which contains complex messages and information. It can be presented briefly and equipped with communicative language that is dialogic and easy to understand by readers. This study aims to develop a COVID-19 digital comic learning media for tenth grade senior high school students. The method used in this study is research and development with the ADDIE development model which consists of five stages, namely analyze, design, development, implementation and evaluation. The results of product validation developed have been declared "very feasible" to be tested by validators, namely material expert validators and media experts, while the results of product trials developed have been declared "very good" by teachers and students, so that learning media in the form of digital comics can be used as an alternative learning media in the classroom.

Abstract

This study aims to describe high school students’ digital-age literacy skills. This study is a descriptive study with a quantitative approach. The sample of this study was 322 eleventh-graders of science at SMA Negeri in Pontianak City, which were determined using the cluster sampling technique. The instrument used is a questionnaire developed based on eight domains of digital-age literacy. The results showed that students' level of digital-age literacy was included in the medium category. Based on the domain, technological literacy, multicultural literacy, and global awareness were in the high category, while basic literacy, information literacy, scientific literacy, visual literacy, and economic literacy were in the medium category. The implementation of digital-age literacy in biology learning is expected to create more engaging and effective biology learning and improve students' digital-age literacy skills.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Jigsaw cooperative learning model in developing communication skills and cognitive learning outcomes of students. This research using the one group pretest-posttest design. The sample is the students of class X MIA 1 who were selected through purposive sampling technique. Data on oral communication skills were carried out by self-assessment, peer assessment and observation which were analyzed using a Likert scale. Meanwhile, data on cognitive learning outcomes were obtained through pretest and posttest scores, then analyzed by performing the n-gain score test. The research data shows that students have oral communication skills in the "high" category, which is as much as 77%. The highest verbal communication skills of students are found in the indicator of delivering detailed information with the "very high" category, while the lowest communication skills are found in the indicator of giving questions in the "enough" category. Then for learning outcomes, statistically student learning outcomes showed a significant difference between initial understanding (pretest) and understanding after learning (posttest) indicated by a significant N-gain value of 0.73 with high criteria. Thus, it can be concluded that the Jigsaw cooperative learning model is effective in developing communication skills and cognitive learning outcomes of students.

Abstract

There have been many attempts to improve the habits of mind of high school students in Biology through various learning models. However, only a few research results show efforts to improve students' habits of mind through the creative problem solving learning model with mind mapping techniques. Therefore, the purpose of the study was to determine the effect of the creative problem solving learning model with mind mapping techniques on increasing the habits of mind of high school students in learning biology. The pre-experimental method was used with the one group pretest-posttest design. Involving three research classes with 108 students taken by cluster random sampling and getting the same treatment using the creative problem solving learning model with mind mapping techniques. Research data collection uses essay and habits of mind questionnaires. The implication of this research is to increase students' habits of mind. students become accustomed to using their minds critically, creatively and able to control themselves very well as evidenced by an increase in posttest scores on essay tests and habits of mind questionnaires with an average of 86% and 83% (very good) with an average N-Gain 66% and 52% (medium), so the creative problem solving learning model was recommended to increase the habits of mind of high school students in biology learning.

Abstract

This study was based on the urgency of critical thinking skills and decision making as part of Higher Order Thinking Skills which students need to master, in addition to the abundance of issues about the dangers resulting from the use of plastic bags related to the environmental pollution topic. The aims of this study were to describe the critical thinking skills and decision making; and to identify the correlation of critical thinking skills with decision making. The method of this study was correlational which involved 30 students of 7th grade of junior high school in SMPN 1 Lembang. The research data were collected by using critical thinking skills test and decision making skills test in the form of an essay. The correlation of both skills were analyzed by using Spearman’s rho Correlation Test using SPSS 16.0, as for interview as the complement. The findings of this study showed that the mean values of both skills are categorized as good. In critical thinking, question at issue, information, and assumptions indicators are categorized as “moderate”; indicator of concept, interpretation and inference, also the implication and consequences are categorized as “good”; while indicator of purpose and point of view is categorized as “excellent”. In decision making, defining problems and evaluation indicators are categorized as “good”, while indicators of generating alternatives, checking risks and consequences, and selecting alternatives are categorized as “excellent”. Critical thinking skills and decision making of students on the use of plastic bags were found to have a significant correlation, positive, and moderate correlation level with 0.458 correlation coefficient. Therefore, it can be concluded that critical thinking skills have a positive correlation with student’s decision making skills on the use of plastic bags.
