Abstract

In facing globalization and ASEAN Economic Community, English is urgent to be used in working necessity in Indonesia. The writer tries to find the way how to help people meet this urgency. Then the writer holds such effective English course for those who are in 18-25 years old. The course is aimed at: (1) providing English training to the people concerned to meet the demands of employment; (2) helping to improve human resources; (3) driving the spirit of productive age community to work harder; (4) starting English training implementation for free. The course??s learning process uses 30% speaking, 30% writing, 20% listening and 20% reading with 50% English used in teaching. It is assumed that this program is quite effective. They are capable enough to understand and use English after joining the program. This program is very useful to help people in productive age master English in order to get a proper job so as to help the government reduce unemployments.

Abstract

People who live in the word know that language is a part of tool to communicate each other in interaction. It  deals with the human need of language that such as culture that must be increased and improved in that life. Language takes a part in human life specially in linguistics, either in educational field ( educational linguistics) or in applied linguistics.It is very important to have a good understanding about the concept of applied linguistics and educational linguistics. Both of them are almost similar but they are actually different. By having knowledge about them, we can differentiate and make relationship between them. So that??s why, here the writers try to make a brief summary about applied linguistics and educational linguistics

Abstract

Motivation is the most important factor for educator in order to improve learning. A number of teachers have contributed their study how to enhance student??s motivation. It is one of the most important targets in daily basis. Conceptualized student??s learn, work effectively, drive to engage and energy, and achieve students?? potential at school. This paper describes the characteristics of primary students, the role of primary English teacher and focuses on the strategies of the teachers to motivate children to learn English. There are three ways to motivate children: achieving intrinsic, extrinsic and group motivation. In achieving intrinsic motivation, it is concluded that TPR, using songs and playing games are good strategies for children. Whereas, achieving extrinsic motivation, from the weakest to the strongest degree, extrinsic motivation is classified into ??external regulation, interjected regulation and identified regulation??. And the last is group motivation, group motivation plays a very important role in language teaching which occurs in the classroom. So it is wise for primary school English teachers to create an active motivational atmosphere where children feel secure to learn.

Abstract

Speaking plays an important role in English learning. Since some students speak actively in classroom, it is high time for teachers to apply one of cooperative learning methods in class. The main purpose of this article is to describe methods and the results of a work designed to analyze the implementation of Three Step Interview in teaching speaking. This article begins with the overview teaching speaking include problems in teaching speaking, and the activities of teaching speaking. It also explains the concept of Three Step Interview technique and the implementation of the technique.

Abstract

This essay tries todeconstruct the thinking way of elite literary writers and readers in dominating the aesthetic claime of literary works, especially in short stories. The writer of this essay has used the content of two short stories to be explored. They are Thrown Away and Through A Fire written by Rudyard Kipling. The imitative and imaginative aesthetic aspect of both stories were analyzed to reach the finding signs of aesthetic proof. Imitative aspect uses the imitations to nature phenomena while Imaginative one uses symbols used by human. The result of analysis shows that both aspects lie in the content of both short stories. Thrown Away uses the beauty of tragic. Kipling had used both imitative and imaginative aspects to enhanced the tragic life of the main character. Through A Fire has used circle of fire in the content of its story. Whole plotting of it is full of fire either it is fire naturally or it is symbolically. The conclusion is enough to be the evidences that popular short stories also have aesthetic aspects.

Abstract

Assessment has become one major focus in language teaching. In relation to the curriculum and the focus of language teaching in Indonesian context, probably reading plays an important roles. To make it connected, the reading assessment has become one field that the stakeholders concerned about. It is absolutely known that administering reading assessment is not easy, one factor is the money spend in administering the reading assessment. Therefore there is a need to create more efficient and feasible reading assessment on the new contexts of the language learners. As internet and computer become common things had by most of the language learners, there is a tendency to develop reading assessment through the use of internet and computer. Internet provide not only new and recent materials, it also meets the practicality and the feasibility of the reading assessment stated before.

Abstract

There are so many texts are be taught by the English teacher to their students. In junior High School level, starts at the seventh grade until nine grades the students will learn so many various texts; they are descriptive texts, procedure texts, recount text, narrative text and report text. Every text has different functions, generic structures and also grammatical features. It helps the students to differentiate between one text and others. In descriptive text, the students will learn how to describe people, things and place in specific, in procedure text, the students will learn how to make something and how use things, in recount text, the students will learn how to tell about their real experience in the past, in the narrative the students will learn how to tell some stories and in report text, the students will learn how to provide natural phenomena and non natural phenomena. Here, the researcher tries to design a narrative book, it means she just take one text, which is a narrative text. The researcher focus only take a narrative text because it has some kinds of stories, they are; Myth, Fable, Legend, Folktale and Fairy Tale. The book content is not only the narrative text, but complete with vocabulary and the exercises. The researcher also hopes that most of students love reading through many kinds of stories from narrative book from her narrative book design.  Hopefully, after this book finished, it can help for students in learning text, especially for narrative text. It also can help the English teacher to explain narrative text briefly and easily.
