Abstract

This article aimed to discuss the parents’ perceptions, on children bilingual education in Bali. Bilingual education could be defined as involving or using two languages in education system, in which one of the language used is students’ native language and in using the languages without mentioning the degree of each language proportion. This small investigation explored a young Balinese girl who became bilingual in English and Bahasa Indonesia and her parents’ perceptions about bilingual education. It involved participant observation, questionnaires administer and interview with her parents. The results of the study showed that the parents wanted their children to be bilingual because it would help in getting better life. Besides, collaboration between teachers, parents, society and environment is needed in order to promote bilingual education without losing children native language, because the parents believe that being bilingual meant children can speak both foreign language and native language equally without losing their native language

Abstract

This research is aimed at knowing (a) the sinchronization of the news spread by facebook group Metro Bali with the Ethic Code of Journalistics and (b) awareness level of social media users in Bali about journalism’s news standard in the form of Ethic Code of Journalistics. To achieve this goal, 35 cyber news in “Metro Bali” was used by using purposive sampling technique. Other than that, there are 62 social media users chosen by random sampling technique. On this research, news cyber media in facebook group  “Metro Bali” was observed by using checklist of Ethic Code of Journalistics as instruments. The comments on news sample were also observed to see the reaction of social media users on the shared cyber news. Other than that, social media users are given questionnaires. The collected data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively.  The result of this research shows that (a) there are still many news that haven’t met the standards of Ethic Code of Journalistics and (b) there are still many social media users who haven’t tried to synchronize the news’ contents with the Ethic Code of Journalistics. This research is expected at improving the society’s awareness to be wise social media readers and users especially on the issue of cyber news

Abstract

Balinese language as Balinese Lingua franca still has rules in speaking. There many Balinese words that are not familiar even neglected in this era, one of  those is verb. There are many verbs in Balinese, but researcher just wants to focus on one verb, that is ngetok seen from metalanguagenatural semantics. The verb ngetok has 32 similar meanings as follows; “ngebug, ngedig, nigtig, ngupek, magambel, mugpugin, mukpukin, ngukul, nungting, ngempug, nyakcak, noktok, ngeplokin, nebuk, ngaasin, nepung, ngintuk, ngalocok, namplak, nyemés, nempéléng, nyagur, nyepédin, nglamet, ngamplongin, ngamplengin, ngemplangin, nglentangin, ngaplekin, nyontok, nylimed and  mentil.” From the whole verb forms of “ngetok” there are differences of each form seen from the wat of hitting related to the device used to hit, subject and object being hit. Verb in Balinese has to different meanings, that can be explained by explication technique of X does something on Y, something good or bad happens on Y. The difference of meaning was gained from the analysis of original meaning with uncomposed polysemi.

Abstract

The students of SMPN 3 Padang Bulia who joined extracurricular activity of painting with glass medium mostly had issues on back pain, waist pain, and neck pain. This was caused by innatural working attitude resulted from the working table which is not ergonomic. The research was to find out the effect of working table on muscolo celetal and the improvement of students’ working quality. In this qualitative research, the data were collected by observation technique, interview and anthropometry measurement of the painters. The data analyzed were the students’ body attitude when they are working on table with the anthropometry’s measurement in order that it is possible to make suitable working table to improve their productivity. From this research, the size of ergonomic working table for students’ anthropometry when they are painting was found. Table was made sideways with 15-45 degree and the height of the painters’ elbow position is 5-8 cm under the table’s surface attempted to be equal with the table’s height. The working table’s design which is ergonomic can decrease the pain of musculo celetal and can improve the painter’s productivity

Abstract

Bobo Magazine is one of children’s magazine which is still exsisted from 1974 until now. Their cover has its own uniqueness. This research was aimed at identifying visual layout of Bobo Magazine, finding the quality of element’s design and visuals elements. The research method is qualitative approach which are collected from observation results, documentation and library research. The object of research was Bobo’s magazine cover of April edition, 2016. The data analysis used to analyze visualization quality was the theory of Tom Lincy about five principal design on printed works, such as proportion, balance, contrast, rhyme, and unity. From the visual data analysis it was found that layout composition from illustration, texts/letter, and colour on cover has applied the principles of unity, balance, rhyme, contrast and proportion. The visual’s fascination is unique, different from others, because it was supported by the use of Bobo’s family characters as icons, the use of bright pastel colours, the use of exact San Serif letters and dynamic layout of objects

Abstract

This study was aimed at (1) analyzing kinds of non-verbal communications used by English teachers during the teaching and learning process, (2) revealing what kinds of teachers’ non-verbal communications affect students’ motivation during the learning process in the classroom, (3) discussing the contribution of non-verbal communications in English education. This study was a descriptive qualitative study conducted at SMPN 3 Banjar. The data were collected by video recording, questionnaire administration, and interviewing. There were 2 English teachers involved as the subject of this research, and 40 students of eighth grade in different classes were involved.  The results of the study indicate teachers’ non-verbal communication in SMPN 3 Banjar meets the seventh kinds of non-verbal communication proposed by Burgoon, Buller, and Woodall, (1994) as cited in Birjandi and Nushi (2014). It was also found that there are some kinds of non-verbal communication that affect students’ motivation, namely facial expression, body movement, gestures, proxemics (proximity), haptics (touch), eye contact, and paralanguage. Gestures and paralanguage are considered as non-verbal communication that gives contribution to English education.
