ARSHI Veterinary Letters (ARSHI Vet Lett) (e-ISSN 2581-2416) is an open access, peer-reviewed, online journal that publishes original manuscript should be produced from latest scientific results which not last than 5 years in all areas of veterinary sciences. Manuscripts is written in Indonesian or English ARSHI Vet Lett includes a rapidly and briefly updated scientific study with not only limited to reports of case study but also covering all aspects of practical clinical science in veterinary medical services. ARSHI Vet Lett is published by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Bogor Agricultural University (FKH IPB) in collaboration with the Indonesian Veterinary Hospital Association (ARSHI). This journal is published since 2017 (first in mid of the year, volume 1, published in 2 issue i.e. August and November), and next volume will publish 4 (four) times in 1 (one) year, i.e. in February, May, August, and November.

Abstract

Venomous snakes are widely kept in captive as collections by private reptile keepers. A 7 years old male desert horned viper (Cerastes cerastes) was presented with a lump on the caudal part of the body. Proper physical restraining method using snake hook and transparent tubes was performed for clinical examination and radiography. Two radiography views revealed radiopaque in both lateral and dorsal recumbence. Differential diagnosis was tumor growth and abscess. Surgical intervention was indicated and performed with the viper induced with injectable anesthesia and maintained with gas anesthesia. Surgical correction with manually removing the abscess was performed. The NSAID, broad spectrum antibiotic, topical antibiotic and fluid therapy were performed post-surgery. Six weeks post-surgery the suture material was removed and wound was dry and healed well.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effect of policresulen treatment with various concentrations on the wound healing in buccal mucosa of white rats (Rattus norvegicus) through macroscopically observation. The number of 54 rats were divided into six treatment groups policresulen with concentration of 36%, 10%, 5%, 1%, 0.3% and one control group. The buccal mucosal injury was made with a 0.5 cm biopsy punch. The treatment of mucosal injury was conducted by dropped policresulen on the 2nd day until the 5th day after the injury. Macroscopic observation under a stereo micro-scope was conducted on the wound diameter, redness, swelling, and necrose. The results showed that wound healing was influenced significantly with concentration of the policresulen. The best healing was shown on lowest concentration marked which has lowest size of the wound diameter (0.50 ± 0.00 cm), the lowest tissue redness (0.00 ± 0.00), lowest final swelling at a concentration of 0.3%. Clinical evaluation of wound tissue necrose parameters which were seen to be most severe at 10% policresulen administration followed by 36% concentration and the least necrose shown on policresulen administration 0.3%. Therefore, based on macroscopic images with parameters of wound diameter, redness, swelling, and necrose suggested that policresulen used for wound healing process are at a concentration of 0.3%.

Abstract

Fluralaner is a new molecular entity from the isoxazoline class that exhibits acaricidal and insecticidal activity and it is recommended as an anti-ticks drugs. The aim of this study is to analyze the effect of fluralaner against dog infested by tick. A total of 10 dogs weighing about 20-40 kg which consists of various races, were divided into control groups with-out medication (n=2), and treatment group (n=8) received fluralaner tablets once by orally, at a dose of 25 mg / kg body weight. The results showed that based on observation of day of drug application at 24th hour was the time where the drug reaches the standard of efficacy with decrease number of the tick by 97.3%. In 28 and 56 days post treatment were the highest levels of efficacy with a decrease number of tick reaching 100%. The efficacy of the fluralaner was still very high until 84 days post treatment reached up to 94.1%. This study also proved that 12 weeks of drug work believed to overcome reinfestation of the tick. The rapid tick-killing effect and the long duration of efficacy showed the potency fluralaner to aid in the prevention of tick borne diseases.

Abstract

Canine parvovirus (CPV) adalah salah satu penyakit infeksius pada anjing dengan angka morbiditas dan mortalitas yang tinggi. Infeksi CPV umumnya menyerang organ sistem pencernaan sehingga mengakibatkan gejala klinis berupa muntah dan diare. Organ lain yang diserang oleh virus ini antara lain sumsum tulang, sistem limfatik, dan myocardium (terutama pada hewan muda). Salah satu gejala klinis yang kerap muncul adalah leukopenia akibat perusakan prekursor leukosit dan sel-sel limfoid oleh virus. Filgastrim (Leucogen®) adalah rekombinan Human Granulocyte – Colony Stimulating Factor (rH G-CSF) yang berfungsi menstimulasi proliferasi dan diferensiasi sel-sel granulosit. Tiga ekor anjing ras Cocker Spaniel (a) (2 tahun), Bernese Mountain (b) (6 bulan), dan mixed breed (c) (3 bulan) dibawa ke PDHB 24 Jam drh. Cucu K. Sajuthi, dkk. dengan kondisi klinis anorexia, lethargy, vomit, melena, dan dehidrasi. Uji rapid test kit CPV menunjukan interpretasi positif. Pemeriksaan darah lengkap menunjukan nilai WBC 2 x 103/µL (a); 3,5 x 103/µL (b); dan 3,6 x 103/µL (c), serta nilai absolut granulosit 1,1 x 103/µL (a); 2,1 x 103/µL (b); dan 2,6 x 103/µL (c). Ketiga pasien diberikan terapi filgastrim (10 µg/kg/hari) selama tiga hari berturut-turut bersama dengan terapi suportif lainnya. Darah lengkap kembali dilakukan pemeriksaan dan menunjukan nilai WBC 5,8 x 103/µL (a); 9,7 x 103/µL (b); dan 51,4 x 103/µL (c) serta nilai absolut granulosit 3,4 x 103/µL (a); 7,3 x 103/µL (b); dan 42,5 x 103/µL (c). Terapi menggunakan filgastrim pada ketiga pasien menunjukkan peningkatan kondisi yang nyata terhadap gejala leukopenia. Pasien juga menunjukan perbaikan kondisi klinis yang signifikan membaik.

Abstract

Kucing domestik didiagnosa suspect chronic kidney disease (CKD) di Klinik Hewan Pendidikan, Fakultas Kedokteran Hewan, Universitas Brawijaya, Malang. Chronic kidney disease atau gagal ginjal kronis merupakan suatu kondisi dimana ginjal mengalami penurunan kinerja secara progresif sehingga tubuh gagal untuk mempertahankan metabolisme serta keseimbangan cairan dan elektrolit, dimana penyakit ini dapat bersifat reversibel dan irreversibel. Studi kasus ini membahas cara pendiagnosaan dan penanganan terhadap kasus suspect CKD. Diagnosa dilakukan dengan cara melakukan pemeriksaan fisik dan penegakkan diagnosa dengan pemeriksaan urinalisis, hematologi, kimia darah dan pencitraan ultrasonografi. Pengobatan terhadap kasus suspect CKD dilakukan adalah dengan menggunakan amoxicillin, livron, metronidazole selama 5 hari

Abstract

Penyediaan pangan asal hewan yang sehat merupakan faktor pendukung dalam pembangunan. Demikian pula dalam penyediaan industri jasa pariwisata yang didalamnya tercakup wisata kuliner. Infeksi larva Anisakidae pada ikan laut yang dikonsumsi harus menjadi perhatian penting dalam penyediaan jasa kuliner makanan laut dari aspek kesehatan masyarakat veteriner. Kajian ini merupakan deskripsi temuan pertama infeksi larva anisakid pada seekor ikan kerapu merah (Cephalopholis miniata). Infeksi larva anisakid pada C. miniata ini ditemukan pada peritoneum dan otot perut. Penting bagi masyarakat yang memasak ikan agar memastikan bagian dalam ikan juga matang sempurna agar terhindar dari anisakiasis.

Abstract

Seekor kucing domestik jantan dengan nama Sarji, berwarna hitam-putih, berat badan 3,1 kg dan berumur ± 2,5 tahun dibawa ke Laboratorium Klinik dengan keadaan luka akibat gigitan biawak. Kondisi os tibia ekstremitas sinistra distal menjulur keluar dari muskulus yang sudah tidak ditutupi kulit dan bagian metatarsal telah mengalami kematian jaringan. Kucing ditangani dengan tindakan amputasi ekstremitas kaudalis khususnya os tibia fibula sinistra. Pasien diberikan antibiotik, anti inflamasi dan anti nyeri pascaamputasi. Pasien tidak menjalani perawatan pascaoperasi secara intensif di klinik karena permintaan pemilik. Proses kesembuhan kucing pascaamputasi berjalan dengan baik berdasarkan informasi pemilik. Luka telah mengering dan hewan mampu berjalan dengan baik menggunakan ketiga kaki lainnya

Abstract

Lobomikosis merupakan penyakit yang menyerang bagian kulit yang disebabkan oleh Lacazia loboi (yeast-like organism) dari ordo Onygenales. Tulisan ini melaporkan seekor lumba-lumba hidung botol Indo Pasifik Tursiop aduncus jantan berumur 14 tahun yang mengalami kelainan pada kulit berupa nodul-nodul ulseratif menyerupai ringworm pada sirip ekor. Gejala yang ditimbulkan dengan cepat menyebar dan gejala pada permukaan kulit mengalami penggabungan nodul yang menyerupai bunga dan disertai adanya perdarahan. Pemeriksaan laboratorium ditemukan bentukan sel khamir dan bentuk unisel. Pengobatan dilakukan dengan menggunakan antifungal ketoconazole 200 mg (mycoral®) dan ketoconazole cream 2% selama 30 hari. Pengobatan lain yang digunakan adalah antihistamin Homochlorcyclizine HCl 20 mg (Homoclomin®) dan antibiotika Quinolone 500 mg (Ciproxin®) untuk mengobati infeksi sekunder akibat bakteri. Lumba-lumba hidung botol Indo Pasifik dinyatakan sembuh dengan menghilangnya nodul ulseratif dari sirip ekor setelah 30 hari pengobatan

Abstract

Distokia adalah proses kelahiran yang dapat menyebabkan trauma pada induk kuda, memerlukan bantuan kelahiran dan mengurangi viabilitas neonatal. Distokia terjadi ketika terdapat kegagalan dalam satu atau lebih dari tiga komponen utama proses kelahiran, yaitu kekuatan mendorong, kecukupan jalan kelahiran, dan ukuran dan posisi fetus. Seekor kuda miniature telah mengalami distokia disebabkan ukuran fetus lebih besar dari ukuran pelvis induk. Reposisi dan penarikan manual telah dilakukan dan tidak berhasil mengeluarkan fetus. Penanganan operasi caesar dengan anestesi general dilakukan untuk menyelamatkan induk kuda. Pasca operasi kuda mulai makan dan minum secara normal serta menunjukkan respon yang baik.

Abstract

Mosquito are insects that cause the most health problems in society and animal, namely as nuisance insects and vector of various diseases such as malaria, dengue hemorrhagic fever, chikungunya, Japanese Encephalitis, dirofilariasis, filariasis, St. Louis Encephalitis and West Nile Virus. Control of mosquito as a vector with utilization of cattle (zooprophylaxis) needs to be done so the role of cattle is more optimize. This study aimed to know the effect of the placement of cattle around population to reduce contact between mosquitoes and human. Catching mosquitoes was done at home with two treatments, the house with cattle and house without cattle. Catching mosquitoes in human by bare leg collection method at indoor and outdoor and cattle were placed in a magoon trap. The result showed density of Cx. sitiens are known as vector of Japanese Encephalitis in human at house with cattle 12.05 mosquitoes/man/hour, in human at house without cattle 16.31 mosquitoes/man/hour, and in cattle 54.38 mosquitoes/cattle/hour. Density of Anopheles are known as vector of malaria were caught showed placement of cattle reduce contact between mosquitoes and human. Density of An. sundaicus in human at house with cattle 0.03 mosquitoes/man/hour, in human at house without cattle 0.01 mosquitoes/man/hour, and in cattle 9.63 mosquitoes/cattle/hour.
