Abstract

The result of social construction that distinguishes human based on gender discriminates female in deserving the education. Against the Egyptian tradition that isolated women and treated them such as slaves, Qasim Amin (1863-1908) came forth featuring the ideas of woman liberty and attempting their advancement through his two both phenomenal books, Tahrir Mar’ah and al-Mar’ah al-Jadidah.  But, the voice to free women from the shackles of tradition, in the eyes of contemporary female education world is irrelevant, regarding women who are easily to deserve their education. The relevant agenda should be proposed today is to empower woman and not to liberate women. This article denotes the influences of Qasim Amin’s educational thought to the feminine proponent and questions its relevance toward female education.

Abstract

National Education System passed by in June 11, 2003, and entered into force in July 8, 2003, had the alignment toward existing Islamic education, pesantren. Since the modernization of Islamic education system in Indonesia was launched, actually that was influenced by both the Western and the Middle Eastern. There was less number of the like the Moslem boarding school could survive. Many classical Islamic boarding schools variously changed. Some totally evicted by the modern education system and other adopted any methodology of the modern education system. The last received very limited changes of modernization to survive. They changed by revising the system and methods. This article views National Education System as a reference in developing the Islamic education, pesantren as its renewal covers discrimination abolishment on education and justifies the relevance.

Abstract

Modernization of Islamic education as an effort to achieve the ideal of Islamic education was done by Ahmad Madani (1970), a Muslim cleric. Negative connotation of modernization that firstly derived from West, shifted into renewal as it is accepted and appreciated as tajdid. Islamic education modernization occurred in a row of modernization of Islamic thought. In line with the enhancement pretension, an attempt to modernize traditional education that is identical to Muslim world specifically in Indonesia, modernization is needed to fix the practice of Islamic education.  This article is purposed to investigate the concepts and ideas of Ahmad Madani in modernizing his institution, Mu'allimin and confirms the relevance of his educational thought

Abstract

Islam presented a faith, science, and morality based civilization. A civilization that can‘t be separated from the role of education. As education is to develop the human potency; physical potential, creativity potency, taste and will, education constitutes as the lifeblood of civilization. The advancement of Islamic education that took place for a long time between 1 H and 11 H, with the peak of advancement from 3 H to 7 H, indicated that through qualified education Muslims were able to respond to the needs and demands of times. This article attempts to reconcile the Islamic education base and its objectives with world pretension such as globalization.

Abstract

In contrast to early nineteen century when the school prohibition for indigenous people was executed, the early century of twenty started up the educational chance. Though the education permitted only for the children of priyayi, rich men, and plutocrat, also Dutch government functionary. The Queen Wilhelmina’s policy that politically determinates the discretion for the need of education came along with the time when Islamic education institution gradually founded and dispersed in Java and Sumatera. As it was influenced by colonial government stability, this article covers the education project of Dutch colonial government and institutional Islamic education, includes political Islamic education policy with its intention.
