Abstract

In the effort to manage cultural heritages nowdays, it is important to take into account the social significance of a site to its surrounding communities. As a consequence, we are required to make an advocacy ( change of policy) to revise the position of the local inhabitants around a site from being an object to a subject. Such change of policy is significant to change the position of the Local inhabitants within the site area from the controlled party into equal partner. Communities should be invoh·ed in the process of cultural heritage management so that the valuable asset will give back good contribution -both materially and non-materially -which will be of benefited to the well-being of cultural heritage and its surrounding communities. The effort to implement the management concept that places cultural heritage in social context, calls for the importance of developing participative approach, which is more community oriented. The implementation of this type of approach is through community empowerment. Empowerment means the social responsibility of archaeology to the communities that have to put up, directly, with the effects of development of site.

Abstract

Abstract. WebGIS-Based Archaeological Geographic Information System of Islam: Study on Public Archaeology. Information technology has become a necessity in storing and providing information. The availability of fast and accurate information is vital to human survival today. This study aims to design Islamic archeology information systems in South, Southeast, and West Sulawesi based on WebGIS. The research method used is literature study and system design using HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) programming language, PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor), and JavaScript. A series of program codes are connected to an open source program called MapServer and Google maps. The method of data collection is to explore the reports of Archeology Research Institute of South Sulawesi from 1996 to 2017, then the archaeological data are integrated into one database. Next, all the archaeological data are compiled into spatial format in order to have the same geographical reference. The overlay between Google maps with Islamic archaeological data in South, Southeast, and West Sulawesi is very easily accessible effectively and efficiently by various parties due to the  use of the Information System of Islamic Archaeological based WebGIS.

Abstract

Abstract.  The  Lithic  Technology  at  Talimbue  Site,  Southeast  Sulawesi:  Continuing  Technology from Late Pleistocene up to Holocene Periods. The Talimbue site at Southeast Sulawesi is packed with  lithic  and  these  offer  a  new  perspective  on  the  lithic  technology  of  Sulawesi.  The  absence  of information  on  the  prehistoric  lithic  technology  of  Southeast  Sulawesi  is  a  factor  of  interest  that makes  research  on  knowledge  of  the  Talimbue  site  necessary.  Lithic  artefacts  were  manufactured from  the  terminal  Pleistocene  to  the  Late  Holocene.  This  research  will  disentangle  the  details  of the lithic technology at the Talimbue Site. The analyzed flaked stone artefacts fall into 3 categories, which are retouched flakes, debitage and cores. For its part, debitage was classified into 3 categories, which are complete flakes, broken flakes and debris. The retouch index was also measured so as to provide a quantitative estimate of the level of retouch intensity of the retouched flakes. The results of  the  analysis  indicate  changes  in  the  stone  flake  technology  during  the  period  of  occupation  of the Talimbue Site. The change of technology occurs because the process of adaptation caused by a change of environment.

Abstract

Distribution of Megalithic Sites in Bondowoso: Type and Its Characteristic.Result of archaeological research in Bondowoso area indicate a number of 801 megaliths which are grouped into 8 types concerning cylindrical stones, sarcophagi, dolmen, stone mortar, stone chamber, statue, menhir, and stone seat. After being studied using nearest-neighbor analysis, they simply show the existence of 26 megalithic sites distinguished by clustered pattern. Analysis of sites and type of megalith yield 3 groups based on variance of type megalith that is group of sites by low character, medium character, and high character. The empiric data indicate that 73% of sites predominated by a group of low variance character, which indicated that there are less complex activities. Even though, some sites also show character with more possible complexes are place for doing activities oflarger one in a group of broader communities.
