Abstract

Information search is important in supporting the activity of “Tri Dharma PerguruanTinggi”. Student information search results are often found to be very similar to statementsin the reference used. Skills in the use of information reflect the understandingof college librarians against information literacy. The research method used in compilingthis article is by qualitative research. In this research used information tracingmodel with stages namely: starting, chaining, browsing, differentiating, monitoring,extracting, verifying, and ending. The study was conducted on 143 users from StateUniversity of Padang (UNP) and University of Andalas (Unand). The results showedthat the lecturer is an important source of information for the user to know the initialreference that will be used in the completion of academic tasks. In addition, collegelibrarians have a high dependence on internet resources. In terms of the formulationof information retrieval results, some readers use the full statement in reference. Inother words, the user does not formulate the search results according to his or herunderstanding. However, some others

Abstract

Disclosure of Public Information Policy is a form of government awareness regarding the importance of information in determining policy. Disclosure of this information is intended to provide openness for people to take part and supervise the government and institutional policy. Archives institution is known as one of the managers of information which has primary task is to store various important recordings to be used appropriately. This paper aims to analyze the role of archive institution in public information disclosure in Indonesia, and its conduct regarding it. To bridge the needs of the user and archival institutions, it must preset fast and efficient archive service. Act no. 43 of 2007 on Archive is one proof of the role of archive institutions in the digital era. Many laws govern the freedom of information of a person, in terms of security, privacy, and information dissemination. Electronic archive service It is expected to facilitate accesses, and it is also a form of the archive’s participation in the Public Information. Although in implementation, there are many issues that archives should face in opening access and disseminating information to the public.

Abstract

A library has been viewed as a place for learning outside of the classroom. The information technology that has resulted in digital library does not replace a library as a place. It enhances the library’s role as a learning place. However, students often experience what is called as “library anxiety” when visiting a library, especially when they visit it for the first time. Adding more technological applications will make current users get better information. And it will also help cope with any library anxiety.

Abstract

This thesis analyses the representation of recreation function in the film The Library (2015). This 20-minute film tells of a teenage girl who gets happiness in the library and gets a lesson about the power of love. The background of all scenes in this film are in a public library in Britain and Emily’s school. This research is using semiotic method with syntagmatic-paradigmatic relation analysis by Roland Barthes. The unit of analysis is the storyline, characters, sentences or statements in each scene in the film. The result of syntagmatic analysis shows that representation of recreation function has worked well as seen from how Emily voluntarily visited library every day to read collections which made her feel love. Paradigmatic analysis shows that the background of the library is the main element that influences the feelings of the characters, such as happiness and pleasure. The conclusion is that this film contains representation of recreation function described with expressions and gestures of Emily and other characters in this film which shows that she was happy after reading the collections in this library and felt new experience that brought her happiness and how Ruth and John found their love. Inaddition, this film conveys education that anyone has the same rights when they visit public library. Indirectly, this film persuasively invites audience to visit public library because they can obtain not only knowledge but also can use its library collection for entertainment and valuable experience.

Abstract

The library cannot achieve its goals without cooperation with the internal and external public. Therefore, libraries need PR (public relations) in their efforts to achieve their goals. The activity of the university library is directly or indirectly related with the PR activity since it is the part of PR activities to promote the image and the use of the library. The implementation of public relations activities in libraries has actually been performed by reference librarians. Reference librarians can use a variety of printed and online media, or convey information directly related to library services to users. With the recent development of information technology, using online search tools to seek information is more preferable by users than asking the reference librarian. Though online information tracking tool to organize information is more sophisti- cated presenting for users, users will still need libraries and referral services to find relevant information, as there are things that are not provided by online services such as selection, organization, provision of access, interpretation of relevant information, which can only be done by reference librarians. Reference librarians perform their duties by serving users in providing answers to questions or guiding users, and by creating awareness that the services provided by the library help promote maximum utilization of the library. PR officers through reference librarians attempt to attract the users’ attention through the provision and dissemination of information, and to serve as well as a liaison between the libraries with the users. PR becomes a necessity in libraries as PR activities will drive library function effectively and help promote library services more optimally.

Abstract

This paper tries to describe and analyze the role of university/academic libraries in creating an academic environment to the potential users both students, and dozen, or other institutions. Library must involve directly in the process of developing user’s scholarly communication. Academic library must be a good partner of the activities of scholarly communication, in two ways, firsly, providing channels of scholarly communication, and secondly educating to the students, such providing consultation, training, or other scientific activities. So academic library need to create soon as possible the taskforces such liaison librarian, librarian researcher, specialist subjects, to handle scientific communication activities work properly. These activities termed an invisible college, which should be showed to stakeholders and can be included as an integral part of the curriculum.Tulisan ini mencoba mendeskripsikan dan menganalisis peranan perpustakaan perguruan tinggi dalam menciptakan lingkungan akademis terhadap potensi keilmuwan pemustaka, baik mahasiswa, staf pengajar maupun sivitas lembaga lain yang sedang melangsungkan penelitian. Peran perpustakaan ini sangat strategis dalam mengaktualisasikan fungsi perpustakaan yang sesungguhnya dan tidak hanya sebagai gerbang informasi dan ilmu pengetahuan saja, sebagaimana yang sering dituliskan di berbagai tulisan, moto perpustakaan dan lain sebagainya. Fungsi yang penulis maksud adalah   fungsi yang melekat sebagai ruh perpustakaan untuk melibatkan diri secara langsung dalam proses pengembangan komunikasi ilmiah pemustaka. Dalam era informasi dan komunikasi seperti ini, perpustakaan perguruan tinggi memang harus menjadi kawan baik bagi pemustaka bahkan menjadi mitra sejati terhadap kegiatan-kegiatan komunikasi ilmiah tersebut. Menurut penulis proses ini dapat dilakukan dengan dua cara, yaitu pertama, menyediakan saluran-saluran komunikasi ilmiah, kedua memberikan pendampingan dan pendidikan baik secara langsung maupun tidak langsung kepada mahasiswa. Keterlibatan langsung berarti perpustakaan memberikan layanan informasi dengan cara tatap muka, bisa dengan jalan memberikan konsultasi, pelatihan, pendidikan dan seabagainya atau bisa dengan menggunakan media komunikasi secara “real time”, sedangkan keterlibatan secara tidak langsung adalah keterlibatan perpustakaan dalam memberikan konsultasi maupun pelayanan lainnya yang tidak bisa diberikan pada saat proses query itu diberikan, seperti jawaban lewat email, lewat servlist lainnya. Proses komunikasi ilmiah tersebut harus mendapatkan perhatian serius dari tim riset perpustakaan, subject spesialis, dan pustakawan penghubung yang sengaja diciptakan agar kegiatan komunikasi ilmiah dapat ditangani dengan baik.  Sementara kegiatan komunikasi ilmiah yang disponsori perpustakaan ini bisa diistilahkan dengan invisible college, yang harus disuarakan dengan massif lewat website perpustakaan sebagai tindakan agitasi dan persuasive, sehingga diharapkan mampu menggugah stake holder di perguruan tinggi agar di kemudian hari proses-proses yang ada dalam kegiatan komunikasi ilmiah ini dapat disertakan sebagai bagian integral dari kurikulum yang dijalankan.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengeksplorasi persepsi pemustaka dalam memanfaatkan perpustakaan perguruan tinggi dalam hal ini universitas, dan korelasi antara persepsi pemustaka dan pemanfaatan perpustakaan. Hasil temuan menunjukkan bahwa perpustakaan universitas merupakan tempat yang menjadi pilihan untuk belajar dan menghabiskan waktu selama tidak ada perkuliahan di kampus. Kegiatan pemustaka di perpustakaan sering digunakan untuk hal-hal tertentu, termasuk studi individu, membaca, penggunaan komputer, mencari informasi, belajar kelompok, menggunakan layanan referensi dan informasi, dan pertemuan juga diskusi kelompok dan bersosialisasi. Korelasi antara penggunaan perpustakaan dan masing-masing kegiatan pemustaka diamati. Hasil temuan menunjukkan bahwa pemustaka menganggap perpustakaan universitas, sebagai tempat untuk belajar dan mencari informasi. Studi ini menunjukkan bagaimana pemustaka memandang dan menggunakan perpustakaan universitas dapat memperkuat, memberikan wawasan ke dalam proses pembelajaran, menumbuhkan enterpreneurship, dan memajukan peran pemustaka dalam komunitas akademis.This study explores the perception of users in utilizing the college library in this university and the correlation between the perception of the user and the utilization of the library. The findings show that university libraries are the preferred place to study and spend as long as there are no lectures on campus. Library activity is often used for certain things, including individual studies, reading, computer use, information seeking, group learning, reference, and information services, and group meetings and group discussions and socializing. The correlation between the use of libraries and each observation activity is observed. The findings show that the librarian considers the university library, as a place to learn and seek information. This study shows how viewers view and use university libraries can strengthen, provide insight into the learning process, foster entrepreneurship, and advance user roles in the academic community

Abstract

The problem faced by the Library of Islamic University of Indonesia (UII) is still 70.37%of librarians who have Diploma and Senior High School, so it is not in accordancewith the existing standards, that is the qualification of university librarians withminimum education of Bachelor (S1) in Library Science. The purpose of this study isto determine the effect of organizational culture on the competence of UII librariansin living their profession. The subject of this research is UII Librarian as many as 27people spread in several places, among others: in Directorate of UII Library, Faculty ofEconomics UII and Faculty of Law UII. During this time the librarian is still havingdifficulty in his career as a librarian, it is evident that almost every semester there aresome librarians who get warning letter from UII leaders related to their obligation toapply DUPAK (List of Proposal of Credit Rate Submission). The research is intendedto know the role of UII Library’s organizational culture towards the development oflibrarian competence of UII. The results showed that the level of organizational cultureUII Library and the level of competence Librarian UII perceived respondents in veryhigh category with the respective perceptions of 81.76 and 84.25. There is a positiveinfluence between organizational culture on the competence of Librarian UII withsignificance value 0.014 0.05 (0.014) smaller than 0.05). While the level of correlationbetween variables X with variable Y there is influence of 47.8% (0.478), wherethe value is in the classification is.

Abstract

Information is recorded in information media that is collected by library management. The information will be lost if the collections are damaged. The library functions to preserve collections to ensure information access sustainability. One threat is mouse infestation. Not much attention has been given to the effects of mouse infestation disturbances and how mice can potentially damage collections. This research aims to find out how and why mouse disruptions occur in the library and what preservation measures are taken by the library to counter this. This research is a case study conducted in the Indonesian Politics Study Center. This study reveals that mouse infestation disruptions are not too much of a concern at the Indonesian Politics Study Center, as preservation activities have not been conducted extensively.

Abstract

Artikel ini membahas mengenai analisis kebutuhan pelestarian bahan perpustakaan tercetak di perpustakaan. Untuk menyediakan bahan perpustakaan yang berkualitas dan mewujudkan perpustakaan sebagai sumber informasi bagi pemustaka, maka dibutuhkan yang namanya pelestarian bahan perpustakaan. Survei analisis kebutu- han pelestarian bahan perpustakaan sangat penting untuk perencanaan pelestarian. Hal ini didasarkan pada kebutuhan perpustakaan dan tindakan yang diperlukan untuk memenuhi kebutuhan pelestarian tersebut. Pendekatan yang bisa digunakan oleh perpustakaan untuk menganalisis kebutuhan pelestarian bahan perpustakaan yaitu: survei perencanaan pelestarian umum, survei bahan perpustakaan khusus, dan survei kondisi bahan perpustakaan. Hasilnya diperoleh usulan perbaikan bahan perpustakaan yang tertuang dalam urutan prioritas laporan analisis kebutuhan pelestarian dan kebijakan pelestarian. Perencanaan terkait kebijakan dan prosedur untuk kegiatan pelestarian preventif perlu dilakukan untuk meminimalisir kerusakan bahan perpustakaan tercetak.This article discusses the needs analysis of library printed material preservation in the library. To provide a quality library materials and realize the library as a source of information for users, it takes the name of the preservation of library materials. Analysis survey of library material preservation needs is essential for conservation planning. This is based on the library’s needs and the actions necessary to meet these conservation needs. Approaches that libraries can use to analyze the needs of library materials preservation are: public conservation planning surveys, special library material surveys, and library condition survey. The result of the proposed improvement of library materials as stated in the order of priority conservation needs analysis report and conservation policy. Planning related policies and procedures for preventive preservation activities need to be done to minimize damage to printed library materials.
