Islamic studies is not merely discussing on sacred corpus only, but everyday life of Islam also. In academic space, this field has increasingly been an intersection -if not a contestation- across disciplines, such as political science, anthropology, sociology, history, economics, media, and cultural studies.

Abstract

The role of philosophy in the development of Islamic education has a very important, especially in determining the direction of education in accordance with the expectations of all parties. Muhammad Abduh and Muhammad Iqbal was a leading figure of Muslim philosophers who provide brilliant ideas for the direction of educational reform Islam. Through the concept of renewal that has been overshadowed in the analysis of the social context of religious and educational experience of the two leading figures, make education easily accepted thinking and developed in some parts of the world so that it becomes the treasury for the development of Islam in the world. According to him, education is a primary need of man, so it is necessary to look for alternative solutions in order to get out of the intellectual stagnation of Muslims at the time. Both strive to transform education thought the Muslims of his time in order to learn from the empirical reality and are not confined to the rigidity and stagnation due to rampant blind imitation, heresy, zuhd, and superstition which binds the Muslims of his time. Both saw that the main cause of backwardness of Muslims is quite alarming is the loss of intellectual traditions, namely freedom of thought.

Abstract

The classic problem of contemporary education today is the integration of two knowledge entities which many have positioned both as diametrical of one another, i.e. the religious knowledge (Semitic) and general knowledge (Hellenistic). This polarization later created a variant that has different form and characteristics, in terms of materials, educational systems, and organizational forms. In order to build an educational system that enables to generate the idealistic results, the management system should not be separated to philosophical rules which lie within, mostly the epistemological frame. Hence, it is important to construct the epistemology of monochotomic Islamic education and management which characterized by Islamic values. The values become the foundation of all operational functions of the management, including managing educational system efficiently and effectively. Both are the forms of philosophical Islamic education in the aspects of axiology and epistemology that could generate human who acquire scientific and technological skills as well as obedience to Islam.

Abstract

Historically, Mecca, which lies on Arabian Peninsula, could not be separated with the development of Islamic education. This is not only due to the city as the birth place of Mohammad the prophet of Allah SWT, but also where the Islamic education started. Islamic education in early Mecca developed under the two biggest civilizations: Roman and Persian. Meanwhile, it was also faced the Jahiliya regime that strongly rooted in the Arabian Mecca communities. The strength of Mecca inhabitants in holding their pagan belief made the two civilizations have no significant influences in the area. Therefore, Mecca was politically and culturally free of any other influences. Moreover, Ibnu Khadun, as cited by A. Sjalabi, once said that Arabian Peninsula was never entered by foreigners. That is why the language is still pure. Geographically, Mecca is located in the west side of the Saudi Arabian Emperor, surrounded by mountains of 300 meters above sea level. Its terrace, made Mecca unfavorable for foreigners and also for Roman and Persian to occupy it as their colony. The complexities of Mecca make it suitable for Muhammad SAW to do the mission of spreading Islam in the region.
