Abstract

Yasmine was an experimental project of Brunei International movie. The movie premiere on 21 August 2014 release to 5 screens (as there are only 5 cinemas) in Brunei and 80 screens in Indonesia, so it was described as the renaissance of Brunei cinemas after 46 years of long sleep. Taking Silat martial arts as background theme for the story. Yasmine movie actually not entirely a trial attempt. There was faith in it, that this movie will be a success because it chose a very typical story. As it was done in Cinderella story that being adopted to Pretty Woman film (1990). Yasmine movie team must be fully aware that the choice of blending romance and martial arts together is always invites many audiences. Deliberately penetrate the Indonesian market was not without strategy, the goals was to brought back film industry as one of creative industry in Brunei along with brings Brunei image go international through Indonesia. Keywords: Yasmine Movie, Strategy, Brunei, Indonesia

Abstract

Advertising is now creating a need for consumers. Advertising makes the wishes and expectations of consumers as a need that must be met and how the fulfillment of course by consuming the advertised product. This study aims to determine the representation of male image contained in the ad Gatsby Styling Pomade. The type of research used is qualitative research with semiology communication approach. The focus of this study is the representation of the male image formed from the symbols contained in the ad Gatsby Styling Pomade. Analysis technique used in this research is semiotics analysis method with Roland Barthes semiotics analysis approach which has two marking level denotation and connotation and myth. In this ad shows that men should always look perfect with a proportionate body shape and a neat hair. The male image is displayed, forming the notion that men should always look stylish and cool. Then it can be concluded that the image of men found in the ad Gatsby Styling Pomade included in the category of masculine image. Kerwords : Advertising, representation, image, semiotics, masculine

Abstract

This study entitled “Gender Construction on Homosexual Men in Television Series ‘Queer as Folk’” investigates how gender on homosexual men is portrayed and constructed in various scenes and dialogues depicted in the television series. By taking the discourse of [homo]sexual practice and fashion, homosexual men are shown to have different gender roles on each occasion. It is performed by them to survive, both in their homosexual community and in [hetero]normative neighborhood. This article argues that homosexual men at the same time are shown to perform by following two different standards. The data used in this study are textual and visual data (screenshots) captured from the series. After analyzing the data, this study finds non-normative gender views performed by homosexual men which tied and related to [hetero]normative gender roles.Key words: Homosexual, gender, heteronormativity, and Queer As Folk

Abstract

A Man Space is a short fiction film that adopts masculine and feminism in a human body, which tells of a family consists of a father and three sons without a woman in the house. All was gone smoothly before there is occurs a problem where the father wanted to replace their mother figure. The film’s problems are not only the father wants to get married again, but also the problems that arise in the community. A man was called as a man because of what? The third child’s question to his father because he was the last son and still searching for his identity while his old brothers already have different characters each other though in the one house and no one could finish this problems only respond with a man way. Abstract

The serial program of comedy “Malam Minggu Miko 2” the story of ‘Malam Baru Miko’ which is broadcasted by Kompas TV is a program which shows in mockumentary format. It is a format of television broadcasting program which contains of fictive story filmed similarly to documentary format that its roles have realistic characters and reflect current real life. This study considers television device as a text. Employing semiotic approach of Charles Sanders Peirce, relating three main components: representamen, object, and interpretant. This study investigates the significances of Indonesian cultural marks emerged on the text. Limitation of the Indonesian cultural marks emerged includes politeness, regards, greetings, smiles, respects, hospitalities, gotong royong (mutual helps), and slametan (traditional feast). The result of this study shows that some marks considered as Indonesian culture are found in some frames of pictures from the serial program of comedy “Malam Minggu Miko 2” the story of ‘Malam Baru Miko’ broadcasted by Kompas TV. Keywords: Culture, Indonesia, mockumentary, and semiotics

Abstract

The facilities and services provided by photographic technology have made it easier for people to photograph. So photography is no longer a strange thing in the society. Photography has been able to replace manual illustrations, with its many advantages, such as the similarities and details of the objects it records. Photography is also necessary as a means of communication and photographic messages can also be a means of expression. When photography enters the arts, photography can provide dimensions that touch technical aesthetic aspects, as well as conceptual and thematic discourses. Exploration Situ Cangkuang will be the choice of visual objects Researchers in the creation of artistic photography. This is a form of aesthetic expression of researchers to make a real contribution to the awakening of art treasures that touch the aspect of tourism. The research method used is the qualitative descriptive method. Abstract

This paper describes the creation of a television drama 44V. This work tells about the journey of a courier forwarder who works on a service offer. This work is packed with sitcoms and there is a social critique of the current situation of Indonesian society. Works created using discontinuity editing techniques. This editing technique is breaking the logic of space and time. Discontinuity editing places more emphasis on ignoring the principles and conventions of continuity editing. In combining several techniques with the discontinuity editing method, an editor is required to be creative aesthetically and skillfully enough to collaborate on such techniques either with transitions, visual effects and so forth.Keywords: 44V, discontinuity, and editing
