Abstract

Research on population dynamics aspect of Glossamia wichmanni was conducted in January until November of 2006. Length frequency data analysis was done to estimate the growth parameter and fish population parameter with program package FiSAT. The research result of fish growth population was formulated according to Von Bertalanffy Growth Formula as Lt = 30.1 (1 - e ' 1(1 *0 1588)). recruitment pattern of fish stock showed a single of top recruitment, whereas the level exploitation stock fish in this time was E = 0.2896. The level exploitation value was still under the level of maximum exploitation (E = 0.468). Though mount the exploitation stock the fish still lower but management of original fish types potency in adjacent of Sentani lake waters shall be done to make sustainable yield by specifying fishery zones, make conservation area as specially indigenous species, lesser or negate all human activities be able to depressing of the original fish population be likely existence of introduction exotics fish types that were by introduction or not on purpose.

Abstract

Motan, Thynnichthys polylepis is one of fish fauna in floodplain, Kampar Kiri River. The research was done from Juni until December 2005, was aiming to describe information on reproductive aspects of motan fishes i.e. sex ratio, gonado somatic index, gonado somatic stages, first size of maturity, fecundity, and egg diameters. Total samples were 479 individuals, consisted of 251 males and 228 females. The spawning seasons was on September-December. Fecundity ranged 718-27.636 eggs from 107 individual females. Spawning pattern was total spawner.

Abstract

Grouper fish was identified in Berau waters in April and July 2005, and March 2006. The number of fish found was 25 species in five genera: Epinephelus, Plectropomus, Cephalopolis, Variola, and Cromileptes. Some species such as Cromileptes altivelis, Epinephelus lanceolatus, and P. aerolalus were vulnerable species; whereas Cromileptes altivelis, Epinephelus lanceolatus, P. leopardus, P. laevis dan P. aerolatus has listed in red data book. E. coioides, P. leopardus, P. laevis are isometric, and P. oligocanthus, P. laevis, V. louti are allometric.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate impact of metal pollutants: Pb, Cd, and Hg on morphism changes of fish phenotype through concentration and bio-concentration factor (BCF). The study site was located in the river mouths of Kahayan River and Katingan River. Samples collected were water sample and fish sample with malformation on pectoral and caudal hard fin rays. Water sample and fish bone were analysed by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). The results indicated that lead (Pb) concentration in the estuary and in pectoral and caudal hard fin rays was the highest compared to cadmium (Cd) and mercury (Hg) concentration. It may because Cd and Hg have high affinity to bone tissue of pectoral and caudal hard fin rays than Pb. The highest lead concentration in the water could cause high its metal in bone tissue. If metal in river mouth has not detected or low concentration than standard values of water and biota, it does not mean the water safe to fish and other aquatic organism because heavy metal has been continuously accumulated in tissue. Pb, Cd and Hg have ability to replace Calcium in Phosphate of cell of pectoral and caudal fins. This causes inhibited Ca absorption into bone cell. As consequence, chemical composition on bone changes the bone experiences softening inhibited hardening, and malformation. Bone malformation was caused by changes of bone chemical composition and environmental effects.

Abstract

Study was conducted in Arafura Sea in 2006. The area was divided to four sub-areas; namely West of Aru Island, East of Aru Island, West of Mapi and Mimika, and Tanjung Dolak. In the west of Aru Island we found 26 families of ichthyoplankton, in which the dominant were Clupeidae, Labridae, and Teraponidae. Larvae abundance was mean 204 individuals/1000 m3, ranged from 16 ind./ 1000 m3 to 1138 ind./lOOO m3. Eggs abundance mean 119 /1000 m3, ranged from 9 eggs /1000 m3 to highest 590 eggs /1000 m3. Sub area East of Aru Island we found 24 families, in which dominant were Balistidae, Engraulidae, and Scaridae. Abundance of larvae mean 1126 ind/1000 m3, varied from 15 ind/1000 m3 to 3,844 ind/1000 m3. Mean abundance of eggs was 188 eggs/1000 m3, varied from 9 eg'gs/1000 m3 to 532 eggs/1000 m3. Sub area West Mapi and Mimika was found 24 families, in which the dominant are Engraulidae, Scaridae, and Clupeidae. Mean of larvae abundance 12.008 ind./lOOO m3, ranged from 13 ind./lOOO m3 to 39,356 ind./ 1000 m3. Mean abundance of eggs was 105 eggs/1000 m3, ranged from 0 /1000 m3 to 731 eggs /1000 m3. Sub area Tanjung Dolak was found 21 families, in which the dominant were Scianidae, Kyphosidae, and Clupeidae 16.35 %. Mean abundance of larva 1025 ind./lOOO m3, was least 3 ind./lOOO m3 and highest 6072 ind./lOOO m3. Mean abundance of eggs 33 /1000 m3, which it varied from 0 /1000 m3 to 149 eggs /1000 m3.

Abstract

Study on relationships between length and weight, total length (TL) and fork length (FL), total length and standard length (SL) of goat fishes, Upeneus sulphureus was carried out based on length frequency data. Data was collected from March to May 2006 in fisheries landing place at Brondong, East Java. The total length-weight relationship of U. sulphureus follows the equation of W = 0.144 LJ J”. It means that increasing the length of goat fish was faster than their weight. The relationship between FL and TL follows the equation of FL = 0,9429 TL - 0.1899; relationship between SL and TL is SL = 0.4889 TL - 0.2938, and between SL and FL is SL = 0.8887 FL - 0.0984. The sex ratio of samples of fish captured by danish seine were male/female = 1 : 2.79. More than 50% of males and females were immature. The length at first capture by danish seine was found to be 13.3 cm TL. The catch composition and fishing seasons provide additional information on the goat fisheries biology landed in Brondong, East Java.

Abstract

Research on fish fauna in peat swamp was conducted in May 2005 representing dry season and in December 2005 representing rainy season as a mean to describe fish species living in peat swamp. Survey location was in Sababilah Lake, Raya Lake and Ganting Lake. There were 56 species in Sababilah Lake, 27 species in Raya Lake and 51 species in Ganting Lake. Each lake had typical species i.e. Cyclocheilichthys janthochir in Raya Lake, Hemirhampodhon tengah, Luciocephalus pulcher, Ompok weberi and Mystus olyroides in Sababilah Lake. Dominant species were Channa pleuropthalmus in Raya Lake, Belontia hasselti, Channa bankanensis) in Sababilah Lake, and Leptobarbus melanopterus Key and Thynnichthys polylepis) in Ganting Lake.
