Abstract

In the 21st Century Learning, students are encouraged to be more creative in solving mathematical problems that lead to the High Order Thinking Skill (HOTS) level of thinking. The ability to solve problems is the ability to reason, understand problems, plan strategies, carry out procedures in solving problems, and draw conclusions. This study aimed to analyze students' mathematical problem-solving skills in solving HOTS questions. It is qualitative research with a descriptive method. The subjects of this research were 15 7th grade class students of Public Junior High School 39 Pekanbaru. The data collection method used was a test technique using a test instrument consisting of 2 HOTS questions of mathematical problem-solving ability and using the method of independent interviews to research subjects. The data collected was then analyzed through 3 stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results showed that 3 students had problem-solving skills, 8 had moderate problem-solving skills, and 4 had low problem-solving skills. Based on student self-tests and interviews, the seventh-grade Public Junior High School 39 Pekanbaru students average have moderate mathematical problem-solving abilities. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that students can answer HOTS questions quite well in arithmetic material. each category of students has abilities and deficiencies in answering HOTS questions. From the results of this study, the teacher's role is very important to familiarize students with solving HOTS questions and creating learning innovations. By familiarizing students with solving problems in learning mathematics, students will not only be able to solve the questions given but also solve problems in everyday life

Abstract

Critical thinking ability is the ability to identify problems, evaluate and develop arguments and solve problems appropriately. Critical thinking must be mastered as a fundamental ability that students must possess. One strategy that can develop students' critical thinking skills is giving problem-solving tasks, such as KSN questions. The KSN questions have more complex problems and a very high difficulty level. This study aimed to measure students' critical thinking in solving the problems of the National Science Competition (KSN) in the field of Mathematics. This research is qualitative descriptive research. The research subjects were three 8th-grade students who were members of the competition team of Public Junior high School 3 Siak Kecil. The data collection technique was in the form of a written test to measure students' critical thinking skills. The results showed that students had good mathematical critical thinking skills. Overall, students can investigate the context of the problem (interpretation), model or formulate mathematical problems (analysis), develop answer concepts by applying appropriate strategies (evaluation), and write conclusions (inference). The results of the data analysis concluded that of the three students who took the test, S-1 had excellent critical thinking skills

Abstract

This qualitative descriptive study aims to describe students' mathematical literacy skills in solving Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) questions on matrix material. The method used in this research is qualitative method. The subjects of this study were 6 students of class XI IPA SMA Al-Azhar Jambi. The instrument used is the initial ability test which contains 5 items, the Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) written test which contains 3 essay questions and interview guidelines. Data analysis techniques include domain, taxonomy and componential analysis. The results of this study are: 1) It shows that all subjects meet the communication indicators (except S6), S1, S2, S3, S4 almost meet the indicators of mathematization, problem solving strategies and the use of formal and symbolic language, technical and operational languages, S5 and S6 do not meet the three indicators, and 2) the factors that affect mathematical literacy skills are: students' perceptions of the importance of mathematics, self-confidence in mathematical abilities, teacher quality in teaching, teacher character in teaching, models, media, strategies, approaches used in teaching, learning, limited time in working, level of HOTS questions and student interest in solving problems.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a validity of learning tools for the curved side space material for grade IX students of SMP in Ambon City in the 2021/2022 academic year using a realistic mathematics approach. The learning device development model used is to modify the 4-D model, which is limited only to the development stage, namely the learning device trial. The data in this study were analyzed quantitatively. The results showed that the learning device that used a realistic mathematical approach in problem-solving the build a curved side spaces problem met the valid criteria at the end of the test

Abstract

This study discusses the development of learning design for derivative topics based on Realistics Mathematics Education (RME). The design developed is different from the designs that have been developed by previous researchers, where in this study, the derivative concept was introduced through the flying fox trajectory, which refers to students' understanding of limits and average velocity. This development aims to obtain a valid, practical, and effective learning design in derivative topics to develop students' mathematical problem-solving abilities. The development model combines the Plomp and Gravemeijer & Cobb models, which are divided into the preliminary research stage, the development or prototyping stage, and the assessment stage. In the preliminary stage, needs analysis, curriculum analysis, concept analysis, and literature review are carried out. Product prototype development is carried out at the development stage, and formative evaluation consists of self-evaluation, expert validation, one-to-one, and small group phases. In this article, the study focuses on findings from one-to-one activities at the development stage. Through one-to-one activities, the resulting design was tested on three students with different abilities to find out whether this product could later be implemented in the classroom. After students learn to use the design, at the end of the activity, students are given a problem-solving ability test to determine the impact of the design on students' problem-solving abilities. The final product obtained is Local Instructional Theory (LIT) of derivative topics, valid, practical, and impact students' problem-solving abilities of RME-based teacher and student books

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the process and results of developing an ethnomathematics-based e-module on Jember batik motifs for high school students. The type of research used is Research and Development (R&D) with the research model used is the ADDIE research and development model (Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). Data collection instruments in the form of validation sheets, student response questionnaire sheets and question sheets. The trial subjects in this study were limited to 6 students in class XI IPA at SMA Negeri Pakusari, while for the large scale trial, the remaining limited scale trials were from students in class XI IPA at SMA Negeri Pakusari. The data analysis techniques used are product validity analysis, practicality analysis, and effectiveness analysis. Based on the results of the analysis, it is found that the ethnomathematics-based e-module on Jember batik motifs for high school students has met three categories of product quality assessment, namely validity, effectiveness, and practicality and can be declared successful or feasible to use. Thus, the product can be useful as a learning resource and to facilitate students in learning mathematics and culture

Abstract

This study aims to develop an Android Mobile Game Based on Edutainment Strategy for class VII students of SMP Negeri 3 Pontianak who reach the level of validity, practicality, and effectiveness with the borg and gall model. The subjects in this study were students of class VIII SMP as many as 30 students and 3 media and material experts. The instruments used in this study were media expert validation sheets, teacher responses and student responses, and problem solving ability test questions. The results of validation research on Android Mobile Game Based on Edutainment Strategy are media validation with an average value of 94.28% from the three experts in the very good category. The second is the value of practicality, seen from the value of the questionnaire filled out by the teacher and all students who are accumulated so that a percentage of 92.40% is obtained with very practical criteria. Furthermore, the effectiveness, seen from the value of the results of student posttest work with the number of students who completed as many as 20 people out of 30 people and the average value of students calculated by the formula for the average score and percentage with in the overall student score so that a score of 85.20 was obtained based in the school's KKM score of 75, then the average student test results have complete criteria and are classified as very effective.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the types of errors students face when solving math problems. First, review the error types based on Watson's criteria and student learning styles. This study uses an explanatory sequential design model. Data analysis techniques include Quantitative data analysis techniques, descriptive statistics, and inferential statistics. At the same time, the qualitative data analysis techniques include; data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results showed that the errors based on Watson's criteria and learning styles obtained were based on student responses, including; Inappropriate Data 40%, Omitted Conclusion 20%, Response Level Conflict 40%, and Above Other 40%. Furthermore, the types of errors obtained in classroom learning include Inappropriate Data 25%, Omitted Conclusion 50%, and Skill Hierarchy Problems 25%. In the visual learning pattern, there are five error classes: Inappropriate Data 9%, Omitted Conclusion 55%, Response Level Conflict 18%, Skill Hierarchy Problem 27%, and Above Other 18%. Several factors influence the error, including; the decline in students' motivation, interest, and thinking skills. Efforts can be made to minimize student errors, including increasing practice on story questions and eliminating students' negative mindset towards learning mathematics

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to evaluate whether or not students in the eighth grade at SMP Negeri 2 Betara in the Tanjung Jabung Barat Regency can improve their mathematical critical thinking skills by using mobile learning that is based on problem-based learning (PBL). The participants in this research were all eighth-graders from one junior high school in the Tanjung Jabung Barat Regency. There were a total of 128 students included in this study, and they were distributed across four classes. The sample was selected from as many as two classes, specifically VIIIA with a total of 28 students serving as the experimental group and VIIIB with a total of 28 students serving as the control group. The analysis of the data reveals that the Zcount value is 10,099, and the significance value is 0.000< 0.005; these values were determined to be significant. Therefore, the working hypothesis or alternative hypothesis that was proposed in this study is accepted. It states that there is a difference in the average critical thinking of students who use PBL-based mobile learning compared to students who use standard teaching materials. While the null or nil hypothesis, which states that "there is no difference in the average critical thinking of students who use PBL-based mobile learning and students who use conventional teaching materials," is rejected.

Abstract

This research aims to develop a valid ALMAJRITI (Aplikasi Matematika Jago Program Linier Interaktif) learning media and to determine student responses. Student responses were obtained from questionnaires and tests (pre-test and post-test). The study conducted is in the form of R&D with ADDIE steps. Media, learning, material, IT (Information Technology), language, and practitioners experts validate the media. The validation results obtained from each validator sequentially are 100% (very valid), 85% (very valid), 84.62% (very valid), 70% (valid), 87.5% (very valid), 96 ,87% (very valid). The media is very valid if it gets 75% or more. Overall, the media obtained a very valid assessment result of 87.33%, so the media was feasible to use. Meanwhile, the test instrument was validated by a material expert. The media was tested in class XI IPA 3 MAN 1 Blitar. The use of media shows a positive student response. More than 65% of students gave a positive response based on the questionnaire results. In addition, the average pre-test was 17.07, the post-test was 77.5, and the percentage increase in student learning outcomes was 405%. Thus, there is an increase in student learning outcomes before and after using ALMAJRITI. This increase shows a positive response from students to the ALMAJRITI. Therefore, it can be concluded that the ALMAJRITI media is valid and feasible to be used as a learning resource for class XI students
