Abstract

The active power filter has been proved to be an effective method to mitigate harmonic currents generated by nonlinear loads as well as to compensate reactive power. The methods of harmonic current detection play a crucial part in the performance of active power filter (APF). This paper presents a new control strategy in which three Shunt Active Power filter Configurations aredeveloped in order to define new simple control algorithm which  requires minimum number of current measurements. The effecticeveness of the proposed control strategies are demonstrated through results. The entire control system is implemented with MATLAB/SIMULINK. The simulation results are presented for different control strategies and comparison is made among themDOI:http://dx.doi.org/10.11591/ijece.v1i1.23

Abstract

Compliance with the Service Level Agreement (SLA) metric is a major challenge in a Multiprotocol Label Switching Virtual Private Network (MPLS VPN) because mandatory models must be maintained on both sides of the MPLS VPN in order to achieve end-to-end service levels. The end-to-end service of an MPLS VPN can be degraded owing to various issues such as distributed denial of service (DDoS), and Random Early Detection (RED) that prevents congestion and differentiates between legitimate and illegitimate user traffic. In this study, we propose a centralized solution that uses a SLA Violation Detector (SLAVD) and intrusion detection to prevent SLA violation.

Abstract

In this research the k-means method was used for classification purposes after it was improved using genetic algorithms. An automated classification system for heart attack was implemented based on the intelligent recruitment of computer capabilities at the same time characterized by high performance based on (270) real cases stored within a globally database known (Statlog). The proposed system aims to support the efforts of staff in medical felid to reduce the diagnostic errors committed by doctors who do not have sufficient experience or because of the fatigue that the doctor suffers as a result of work pressure. The proposed system goes through two stages: in the first-stage genetic algorithm is used to select important features that have a strong influence in the classification process. These features forms the inputs to the K-means method in the second-stage which uses the selected features to divide the database into two groups one of them contain cases infected with the disease while the other group contains the correct cases depending on the distance Euclidean. The comparison of performance for the method (K-means) before and after addition genetic algorithm shows that the accuracy of the classification improves remarkably where the accuracy of classification was raised from (68..1481) in the case of use (k- means only) to (84.741) when improved the method by using genetic algorithm.

Abstract

Dynamic topology change and decentralized makes routing a challenging task in mobile ad hoc network. Energy efficient routing is the most challenging task in MANET due to limited energy of mobile nodes. Limited power of batteries typically use in MANET, and this is not easy to change or replace while running communication. Network disorder can occur for many factors but in middle of these factors deficiency of energy is the most significant one for causing broken links and early partition of the network. Evenly distribution of power between nodes could enhance the lifetime of the network, which leads to improving overall network transmission and minimizes the connection request. To discourse this issue, we propose an Energy Aware Routing Protocol (EARP) which considers node energy in route searching process and chooses nodes with higher energy levels. The EARP aim is to establish the shortest route from source to destination that contains energy efficient nodes. The performance of EARP is evaluated in terms of packet delivery ratio, network lifetime, end-to-end delay and throughput. Results of simulation done by using NS2 network simulator shows that EARP can achieve both high throughput and delivery ratio, whereas increase network lifetime and decreases end-to-end delay.

Abstract

Detecting the authenticity of paper currencies using automated based Paper Currency Recognition (PCR) with image processing techniques was still a hot topic of discussion, due to the circulation of counterfeit currency that was still overwhelming in some countries. There was a downside along with this advancement in technology in the field of color printing, duplication, and scanning, because it was became one of the supporting factors of the increasing crime rate in production of counterfeit money. Our system has performed a PCR approach based on image processing techniques. In this study, the SAR banknote was the object to be recognized and detected its authenticity with the development of the previous method, which was incorporating the Geometric Template Matching and Grayscale Template Matching. In addition to the pattern recognition process, the classification process on 1 SAR, 2 SAR, 5 SAR, and 10 SAR was also performed. From PCR test up to 100 sample data, for each tested banknote value obtained the average value of the best accuracy level from incorporating GeoMatchingScore and GrayMatchingScore for the classification process was 95.25%. While the average level of system accuracy in recognizing counterfeit money on each banknote obtained a maximum value of 100%.

Abstract

In order to increase the performance of Aditya tokamak, it is necessary to determine the feedback coil current for positioning the plasma within the magnetic chamber. In this paper, transfer functions are obtained for the plasma position prediction system. Four different feedback controllers are developed to improve the performance of the prediction system. From the analysis, Neural Network controller does not have overshoot while the PID controller has lesser settling time than the other two controllers.

Abstract

The Cloud is a computing platform that provides on-demand access to a shared pool of configurable resources such as networks, servers and storage that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort from clients. At its core, Cloud computing focuses on maximizing the effectiveness of the shared resources. Therefore, workflow scheduling is one of the challenges that the Cloud must tackle especially if a large number of tasks are executed on geographically distributed servers. This entails the need to adopt an effective scheduling algorithm in order to minimize task completion time (makespan). Although workflow scheduling has been the focus of many researchers, a handful efficient solutions have been proposed for Cloud computing. In this paper, we propose the LPSO, a novel algorithm for workflow scheduling problem that is based on the Particle Swarm Optimization method. Our proposed algorithm not only ensures a fast convergence but also prevents getting trapped in local extrema. We ran realistic scenarios using CloudSim and found that LPSO is superior to previously proposed algorithms and noticed that the deviation between the solution found by LPSO and the optimal solution is negligible.

Abstract

In this work, we present a novel approach for extracting features of a digital wave file. This approach will be presented, implemented and tested. A signature or a key to any wave file will be created.  This signature will be reduced to minimize the efforts of digital signal processing applications. Hence, the features array can be used as key to recover a wave file from a database consisting of several wave files using reduced Local binary patterns (RLBP). Experimental results are presented and show that The proposed RLBP method is at least 3 times faster than CSLBP method, which mean that the proposed method is more efficient.

Abstract

Development of prototype at data security through secret messages is needed for disguising the messages sent in smartphone chatting application, WhatsApp (WA) Chat. We propose a model to disguise a plaintext message which is first encrypted by cryptosystem to change the plaintext message to ciphertext. Plaintext or plainimage entering the smartphone system is changed into encrypted text; receiver then can read the message by using similar key with the sender. The weakness of this proposal is the message random system is not planted directly in the chatting application; therefore message removing process from cryptosystem to WA application is still needed. The strength of using this model is the messages sent will not be easily re-encrypted by hacker and can be used at client computing section.

Abstract

Design of phase-shifted full bridge zero voltage switching DC-DC converter has been very challenging due to circuit parasitic effect on the system dynamics. This paper presents steady-state analysis and iterative approach for the systemic design of phase-shifted full bridge DC-DC converter with improved dynamic performance and satisfactory operational requirement in terms of zero-voltage switching range, operating switching frequency and switching resonance. A 3 kW DC-DC converter is designed using the iterative design approach and the system dynamics performance was investigated in the MATLAB/Simulink environment. The converter zero-voltage switching simulation results were satisfactory with 90% efficiency under full load condition.
