Abstract

Physical systems can fail. For this reason the problem of identifying and reacting to faults has received a large attention in the control and computer science communities. In this paper we study the fault diagnosis problem and modeling of Hybrid Dynamical Systems (HDS). Generally speaking, HDS is a system mixing continuous and discrete behaviors that cannot be faithfully modeled neither by using formalism with continuous dynamics only nor by a formalism including only discrete dynamics. We use the well known framework of hybrid automata for modeling hybrid systems, because they combine the continous and discretes parts on the same structure. Hybrid automaton is a states-transitions graph, whose dynamic evolution is represented by discretes and continous steps alternations, also, continous evolution happens in the automaton apexes, while discrete evolution is realized by transitions crossing (arcs) of the graph. Their simulation presents many problems mainly the synchronisation between the two models. Stateflow, used to describe the discrete model, is co-ordinated with Matlab, used to describe the continuous model. This article is a description of a case study, which is a two tanks system.

Abstract

In clinical data, we have a large set of diagnostic feature and recorded details of patients for certain diseases. In a clinical environment a doctor reaches a treatment decision based on his theoretical knowledge, information attained from patients, and the clinical reports of the patient. It is very difficult to work with huge data in machine learning; hence to reduce the data, feature reduction is applied. Feature reduction has gained interest in many research areas which deals with machine learning and data mining, because it enhances the classifiers in terms of faster execution, cost-effectiveness, and accuracy. Using feature reduction we intend to find the relevant features of the data set. In this paper, we have analyzed Modified GA (MGA), PCA and combination of PCA and Modified Genetic algorithm for feature reduction. We have found that correctly classified rate of combination of PCA and Modified Genetic algorithm higher compared to other feature reduction method.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the characteristic of a compact generator – hydro turbine system. The generator is of permanent magnet type and the turbine operates in a very low head. The integration of the two components is conducted in such a way that simplifies the construction of the conventional turbine generator. The method is by mounting the generator stator to the turbine casing and the permanent magnets are assembled in the perimeter of the turbine blade rotor. This simple construction is approached by making the stator from individual teeth and yoke. The permanent magnet generator (PMG) is designed to produce the nominal power of 300 Watt 50 Hz at 83 rpm of turbine shaft. All components of the integrated turbine- generator are totally immersed in the water stream. The stator has to be hermitic to avoid water entering the spool. Another issue investigated is the influence of the type of the stator inner casing material to the generator performance. The results show, the PVC material for inner casing has a good influence to the generator performance compared with the mild steel material.

Abstract

The Ti/Al/Ni/Au films deposited by electron beam evaporation on n type GaN was demonstrated as a suitable solution for low resistive and thermally stable contact to n-type GaN. The surface morphology of Ti/Al/Ni/Au and Ti/Al contacts were studied as a function of the annealing process conditions using image processing techniques. The algorithm was implemented using the MATLAB software. Using the algorithm made, the area occupied by the pores and porosity in the ohmic contact structures were obtained.

Abstract

Process scheduling means allocating a certain amount of CPU time to each of the user processes.  One of the popular scheduling algorithms is the “Round Robin” algorithm, which allows each and every process to utilize the CPU for short time duration.  Processes which finish executing during the time slice are removed from the ready queue.  Processes which do not complete execution during the specified time slice are removed from the front of the queue, and placed at the rear end of the queue. This paper presents an improvisation to the traditional round robin scheduling algorithm, by proposing a new method. The new method represents the time slice as a function of the burst time of the waiting process in the ready queue. Fixing the time slice for a process is a crucial factor, because it subsequently influences many performance parameters like turnaround time, waiting time, response time and the frequency of context switches.  Though the time slot is fixed for each process, this paper explores the fine-tuning of the time slice for processes which do not complete in the stipulated time allotted to them.

Abstract

Load forecasting has many applications for power systems, including energy purchasing and generation, load switching, contract evaluation, and infrastructure development. Load forecasting is a complex mathematical process characterized by random data and a multitude of input variables.To solve load forecasting, two different approaches are used, the traditional and the intelligent one.Intelligent systems have proved their efficiency in load forecasting domain. Adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference systems (ANFIS) are a combination of two intelligent techniques where we can get neural networks and fuzzy logics advantages simultaneously. In this paper, we will forecast night load peak of Algerian power system using multivariate input adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) introducing the effect of the temperature and type of the day as input variables.

Abstract

A Cognitive Radio (CR) is a radio that can adjust its transmission limit based on available spectrum in its operational surroundings. Cognitive Radio Network (CRN) is made up of both the licensed users and unlicensed users with CR enable and disabled radios. CR’S supports to access dynamic spectrum and supports secondary user to access underutilized spectrum efficiently, which was allocated to primary users. In CRN’S most of the research was done on spectrum allocation, spectrum sensing and spectrum sharing. In this literature, we present various Medium Access (MAC) protocols of CRN’S. This study would provide an excellent study of MAC strategies.

Abstract

Heart diseases are among the nation’s leading couse of mortality and moribidity. Data mining teqniques can predict the likelihood of patients getting a heart disease. The purpose of this study is comparison of different data mining algorithm on prediction of heart diseases. This work applied and compared data mining techniques to predict the risk of heart diseases. After feature analysis, models by five algorithms including decision tree (C5.0), neural network, support vector machine (SVM), logistic regression and k-nearest neighborhood (KNN) were developed and validated. C5.0 Decision tree has been able to build a model with greatest accuracy 93.02%, KNN, SVM, Neural network have been 88.37%, 86.05% and 80.23% respectively. Produced results of decision tree can be simply interpretable and applicable; their rules can be understood easily by different clinical practitioner.

Abstract

A novel design of system management based on multi-agents approach applied to an autonomous hybrid power system is proposed and investigated. The system under study integrates few elements, some serve to provide power requirements, while the others used to store energy. Among these items, we can mention a Solar Power Source namely (SPS) which works as primary source to feed a DC electric load. The system integrates also a secondary power source namely Power Recovery Source (PRS) based on a fuel cell technology used to compensate the power deficit if required. More than two kinds of energy storage, the first called Hydrogen Generation Element (HGE) including a water electrolyzer to store the energy in hydrogen form, while the second uses an Ultracapacitor Element (UE) to store the energy in its electrical form. To reach the well functioning of the system in order to satisfy the load requirements whatever the facts, an intelligent energy management approach based on multi-agent modeling is implemented and verified. Hence, the reliability and the effectiveness of the applied management strategy, which allows the coordination between the different energy sources and protects the system against any fluctuation, are proved by the obtained results from Matlab/Simulink.

Abstract

Vehicular ad hoc networks are new and emerging technology and special class of mobile ad hoc networks that provide wireless communication between vehicles without any fixed infrastructure. Geographical routing has appeared as one of the most scalable and competent routing schemes for vehicular networks. A number of strategies have been proposed for forwarding the packets in geographical direction of the destination, where information of direct neighbors is gained through navigational services. Due to dynamically changing topologies and high mobility neighbor information become outdated. To address these common issues in network different types of forwarding strategies have been proposed. In this review paper, we concentrate on beaconless forwarding methods and their forwarding methods in detail.
