Abstract

This paper presents an overview of strategies and approaches for FPGA programming. At first, design entry methods are briefly introduced. Then, the concepts of FPGA programming in some perspective viewpoints, such as: execution perspective, modelling perspective, programming style perspective, construction methodology perspective and synthesis perspective will be explained. Finally, the principle of VHDL programming use synchronization-evolution-action approach is introduced.

Abstract

This paper describe the single chip mode prototype of automatic paper and price counting tool in old type photocopying machine based on AT89S51 microcontroller. The experiment showed the prototype had been design could count how many paper out from photocopying machine and then calculate its price. The number of the paper and calculation result in rupiahs was displayed at LCD screen. Abstract

Environmental factors such as air pollution and increase in global warming by using polluting fuels are the most important reasons of using renewable and clean energy that runs in global community. Wind energy is one of the most suitable and widely used kind of renewable energy which had been in consideration so well. This paper introduces an electric power generationsystem of wind based on Y-source and improved Y-source inverter to deliver optimal electrical power to the network. This new converter is from impedance source converters family. This presented converter has more degrees of freedom to adjust voltage gain and modulation. Also, by limiting the range of simultaneous control (shooting through) while it maintains thehighest power of maximizer, it can operate in higher modulation range. This causes the reduce of stress in switching and thus it will improve the quality of output. Recommended system had been simulated in MATLAB/Simulink and shown results indicate accurate functionality.

Abstract

This paper discusses about design of hollow-rotor Brushless DC (BLDC) motor. A conventional BLDC motor has more leakage flux circling at the end of the permanent magnet that will limit torque. To overcome this problem, a new BLDC model known as hollow-rotor is proposed. The objective of this research is to design a hollow-rotor motor that will have higher torque density compared to conventional BLDC motor using Finite Element Method (FEM). In addition, performance analysis of the proposed hollow-rotor has also been carried out. For validation, the result of FEM is compared with the measurement result. It shows that, the simulation result has good agreement with the measurement result. For comparison, hollow-rotor shows higher torque density compared to conventional BLDC motor. As a conclusion, this paper provides guidelines and analysis in designing high torque hollow-rotor motor.

Abstract

By developing research and academic centers, the number of performed research articles has also increased. On the other hand, publishing the results of these articles in scientific journals shall also grow. In the meantime, researchers are trying to publish the findings of their research in journals which have been approved by one or more international indices so that such findings can be seen. In order to enhance the academic standards of Universities, proper journal choice will be of interest to researchers, especially those that are indexed in websites such as Thomson Reuters. However, certain forgery frauds researchers by launching fake Web sites that have been named by academic journal titles. In this paper, we introduce an approach to identify this type of journals that will be applicable by researchers in various academic disciplines.

Abstract

This paper presents a new design of the torque and stator flux estimators for Direct Torque control (DTC) for Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) implementation, which permit very fast calculations.An alternative variable word-size approach in two’s complement fixed-point format is used for the implementation, in order to minimize calculation errors and the hardware resource usage. The simulation results of DTC model in Matlab, which performed double-precision calculations, are used as references to digital computations executed in FPGA implementation.The Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) method is used to verify the minimal error between Matlab simulation and the experimental results, and thus the well-functionality of the implemented estimators.Keywords: FPGA, DTC, HIL

Abstract

This paper reviews different types of maximum power point tracking (MPPT) techniques for solar photovoltaic (PV) application. Since the PV output power is known affected by sun radiation and temperature, it is necessary to search for an effective method for extracting maximum amount of power from PV cell/modules. In this study, a total of seven control algorithms were selected, comprising the most popular methods among the established techniques. A comparison in terms of convergence speed, complexity, as well as the basic concept of each method had been carried out for future reference. Based on the accessible simulation results, modified Perturb and Observe (P&O) method had shown its effectiveness for obtaining actual maximum power point while solving major drawbacks of the conventional P&O. This paper also discusses typical solar MPPT system, including the pros and cons of each part of the system.

Abstract

The explosion of data available on the internet is very increasing in recent years. One of the most challenging issues is how to effectively manage such a large amount of data and identify new ways to analyze large amounts of data and unlock information. Organizations must find a way to manage their data in accordance with all relevant privacy regulations without making the data inaccessible and unusable. Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) has released that the top 10 challenges, which are as follows: 1) secure computations in distributed programming frameworks, 2) security best practices for non-relational data stores, 3) secure data storage and transactions logs, 4) end-point input validation/filtering, 5) real-time security monitoring, 6) scalable and composable privacy-preserving data mining and analytics, 7) cryptographically enforced data centric security, 8) granular access control, 9) granular audits, 10) data Provenance. The challenges themselves can be organized into four distinct aspects of the Big Data ecosystem.

Abstract

This paper presents a review of wind speed estimation based on Kalman filter technique applied to wind turbine systems. Generally, wind speed measurement is performed by anemometer. The wind speed provided by the anemometer is measured at a single point of the rotor plane which is not the accurate wind speed. Also, using anemometer increases the system cost, maintenance, complexity and reduces the reliability. For these reasons, estimation of wind speed is needed for wind turbine systems. In this paper, the several wind speed estimation methods based on Kalman filter method used for wind turbine systems are reviewed.

Abstract

The permanent magnet AC motor trapezoidal (BLDC motor) is not strictly DC motor, which uses a pulsed DC fed to the stator field windings to create a rotating magnetic field. Therefore, the motor needs an electronic commutation to provide the rotating field. A pair of switches must be turned on sequentially in the correct order to energize a pair of windings. If the incorrect order is applied, then the BLDC motor will not operate properly. This paper presents a smart guideline to ensure that the order to energize a pair of windings is correct. To ensure the guideline, FPGA based a simple commutation state machine scheme to control BLDC motor is presented. The experiment results have shown that the guideline is correct. The commutation scheme was successfully realized using Altera's APEX20KE FPGA to control BLDC motor in both of forward/reverse rotations or forward/reverse regenerative braking properly.
