Abstract

Phytoecdysteroid is a mimic hormone like molt regulating hormone in arthropoda and crustacea.  This research aims to investigate the response of Portunus pelagicus larvae on various doses of vitomolt enrichment in predigested artificial diet.  Four doses of vitomolt (0; 4; 40; 400 mg/100 g artificial diet) were used in this research.  Larval development and survival rate were measured The results showed that the larvae development rate was increased in congruent with the dose of vitomolt.  However, highest survival rate was found on 4 mg vitomolt/100 g artificial diet (P>0.05).  Based on regression analysis, it is estimated the optimal dose of vitomolt for larval development rate and survival rate was about 23 mg/100 g of artificial diet. Vitomolt application in artificial diet could be used to accelerate the larval development rate in blue swimming crab. Keywords: Portunus pelagicus, phytoecdysteroid, artificial diet, survival, larval development

Abstract

Critical factor for successful fish farming is feed. Feed should always be available and in accordance with the needs of farmed fish both in quality and quantity. Black nile tilapia are reared intensively, requires diet crumb size with protein content is not less than 30%. Diet made by the composition and nutritional value in accordance with the age of the fish. The purpose of this study was to find the optimum percentage of leaf meal turi in artificial feed on the growth of black nile tilapia’s weight about 6 g/fish. The treatment in this study was the addition of turi leaf flour in artificial feed at 0%, 3%, 6%, 9% and 12%. Fish stocking density is maintained with 1 fish/L water for 40 days in a plastic tub volume of 15 liters and given the aerator. Measurement the amount of feed consumed was calculated to determine the feed efficiency. Data were analyzed using ANOVA and then the differences between treatments were tested using Duncan's Multiple Range Test. The results showed the highest of daily specific growth rate and feed efficiency obtained in the treatment of feed containing turi leaf flour of 0-9% were respectively 1.66 to 1.57% and from 45.57 to 39.82%. Keywords : Black nile tilapia; Daily specific growth rate; Feed efficiency; Turi leaf flour

Abstract

This research is aimed to examine the water quality and productivity of dryland catfish pond based on the existing technology and land priority in Gunungkidul and to determine the suitable technology based on the land priority. Samples from the ponds employing intensive, extensive, and semi-intensive technology were analysed to find out the water quality such as the ammonia, nitrate, and nitrite contents; pH; DO; temperature and turbidity; land productivity; and profit. Existing analysis used scoring of sample ponds which included water quality, productivity and profit analysis. The highest score of the sample ponds becomes the sample of technology applied in the certain area. The highest score in high priority land was PTI (79%), medium priority land was PSS (72%), and non-priority land was NPE (68%). The water quality, productivity and profit in high priority land reached optimal result when it used intensive technology. The water quality, productivity and profit in medium priority land reached optimal result when it used semi-intensive technology. The water quality, productivity and profit in non-priority land reached optimal result when it used extensive technology. Keywords: Water quality; productivity; scoring; dryland catfish pond; existing technology; land priority

Abstract

One of the problems faced in blue swimming crab hatchery business is the reliance on the use of natural feed. This research aimed to study the effect of rotifer feed replacement by predigested artificial feed on survival rates, growth rates of the larval stages and to determine the best feeding period of predigest artificial feed 100% to replace rotifers. The study was conducted in May-June 2015 in a household scale hatchery location at Bojo Village, Mallusettasi District, Kabupaten of Barru. There were five replacements of rotifers by predigest artificial feed namely: A. Control (feeding with rotifer up to stadia zoea 4), B (feeding with rotifer up to stadia zoea 3), C (feeding with rotifer up to stadia zoea 2), D (feeding with rotifer only at stadia zoea 1), E (No feeding with rotifer). Predigest artificial feeds were fed for a rearing period of larvae in all treatments. The results showed that the survival of the blue crabs larvae that did not consume rotifers as a feed source were significantly lower than the crab larvae consuming rotifers. The larvae with no feeding rotifer survived only at stadia zoea-2 while those feeding with rotifers survived until zoea-4. The rate of stadia changes did not differ among treatments getting rotifers. Use of predigest artificial feed on crab hatchery can be an alternative to rotifers in the future. Feeding predigest 100% can be started at stadia zoea-2. Key words: blue swimming crab, Portunus pelagicus, larvae, rotifers, predigest artificial feed.

Abstract

There has been ever increasing interest in Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture System (IMTA) to encourage developing environmentally friendly aquaculture, which combines fed aquaculture with extractive aquaculture in proximity. IMTA can minimize the environmental impacts of conventional monoculture aquaculture farms while expanding their economic base. To evaluate the efficiency of IMTA system, we applied the dynamic STELLA modeling in terms of nitrogen content of each component. Consequently we may develop potential strategic guidelines of IMTA implementation which may increase the managing and predictive capability and the social acceptability of the system. Keywords: STELLA modeling; IMTA; Nitrogen; Fish; Bivalve; Seaweed; Sea Cucumber

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the condition of immunological response of and the presence of bacterial diseases in Anabas Testudineus fish was transported from pond culture towards Segiri Market. Transport system carried out by the fishmonger supposed to influence the health conditions of fish as well as the presence of bacteria on the fish's body. The sample was 30 fish from Muara Kaman pond and Markets Segiri as a fish marketing. Some parameters were observed among others: changes in swimming behavior, pathology anatomy organs, aemotology and inventory of bacterial diseases. The results showed that the samples of fish from the pond aquaculture generally have normal conditions of organ anatomy, symptom behavior swim also normally, otherwise fish from marketed in the Market Segiri, as much as 60% of fish have abnormal behavior of swimming, 73% have pathology on external anatomy and 53% fish have abnormalities in organs. Results of the isolation and identification of bacterial disease found that there are 5 types of bacteria Aeromonas, Pseudomonas, Staphyllococcus, Streptococcus and Basillus, and only bacteria Staphyllococcus and Basillus not found in fish pond aquaculture origin. The health condition of the fish pond aquaculture origin betook better, judging from the hemoglobin, hematocrit, total leukocyte and total erythrocyte that is within the normal range. While the blood picture fish from Segiri market is generally higher in all parameters that indicate health problems. It can be concluded that the transport system carried out by the wet etching fishmonger effect on the occurrence of abnormalities in behavioral symptoms, anatomic pathology outer and inner organs, the presence of bacterial disease and the decline in fish health conditions. Keywords : Betok fish, bacterial, transportation
