Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah: (1) mengungkapkan penghancuran ideologi fasisme oleh Russia, dan (2) mengetahui peran karakter, seting, dan plot dalam membantu mengetahui tindakan penghancuran fasisme. Kutipan teks dalam novel ini dianalisa menggunakan teori power dari Michel Foucault secara interpretasi teks dan konteks. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa penghancuran ideologi fasisme dilakukan dengan cara menghancurkan hidup orang-orang Jerman.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to analyze types of illocutionary act found in novel The Never Girls Bell: Before the Bell by Kiki Thorpe. This research used the descriptive qualitative method. The data of this research is the utterances of novel The Never Girls Bell: Before the Bell by Kiki Thorpe published in 2016. The data is taken from chapter one, page one until seven. This data would be analyzed based on Searle’s theory about classifications of illocutionary act. There are some types of illocutionary act in this paper; they are representative (informing, asserting, predicting, reporting); directive (asking, requesting, stating), commisive (promising); expressive (liking, complimenting), and declarative. The finding of the data has shown that in novel the highest is representative 28 data or about 50% and the highest representative type is informing. And the second is directive 21 data or about 37, 5% and the highest directive is asking. From the result of the study that the dominant type of illocutionary act is representative and the dominant sub-type of representative is informing.

Abstract

This thesis is a psychoanalysis reading of a novel which is written by Bill Clegg entitled Did You Ever Have a Family (2015). It explores the issue of grief journey which is experienced by main character before she is managed to heal from her grief. The analysis of grief journey is used the concept of Elisabeth Kubler Ross (1969) of five stages of grief. It is also intended to find out the contribution of multiple narrators in revealing the issue of grief journey. The result of this analysis shows the depiction of main character’s grief journey from multiple characters’ perspective.

Abstract

The purpose of this analysis are to expose the issue ofVietnam as a potential mediaand to know the contribution of the implied author in revealing the meaning of Vietnam as a potential media. This analysis is related to the concept of Neo-colonialismby Kwame Nkrumah and Hegemony by Gramscithat is supported by the text and context based interpretation. The result of this analysis shows that America utilises Vietnam as their media of promotion which can be seen from their policy and economy intervention.

Abstract

The purpose of this analysis is to expose the issue about restraints of the labor’s welfare which is done by the company in Reading, Pennsylvania and to know the contribution of the plot, setting, and character in revealing the restraints of the labor’s welfare. This analysis is related to the concept alienation by Karl Marx that is supported by the text and context-based interpretation. The result of this analysis shows the company in Reading, Pennsylvania do many things to limiting, controlling, and stopping the labor’s welfare to get much profit.

Abstract

This paper is aimed to: (1) identify the types of code mixing used by radio broadcasters of Pesona FM radio program of song requests; (2) determine the functions of code mixing used by the radio broadcaster in the radio program. The data in this paper are all words, phrases, and clauses or sentences that belong to the code mixing. Data sources are obtained from recording of conversation between the radio broadcasters and listeners in the radio program. The method used in this paper is descriptive. Data was analyzed using the theory advanced by McKay and Nancy (1996: 58-60) for classifying the types of code mixing such as inserting of word, inserting of phrases, and inserting of a clause or sentence. The theory also used to classify the functions of code mixing such as identity marking, strategy of neutrality, stylistic function, and socio-expressive function. From a total of 82 data, the researchers found 44 data (53.65%) belongs to the inserting of word, the 26 data (31.70%) belong to the inserting of phrases and 12 data (14.63%) belongs to the inserting of a clause or sentence. The inserting of word is the most dominant type of code mixing used and the inserting of a clause or sentence is the least. Furthermore, from the 82 data, the researchers also discovered the function of code mixing and found 8 data (9.75%) were included into the identity marking, 4 data (4.87%) were included into the strategy of neutrality, 53 of data (64.63%) belongs to the stylistic function, and 17 data (20.73%) belongs to the socio-expressive function. Abstract

This thesis is an analysis of a novel written by Kamila Shamsie, entitled Home Fire (2017). It explored the issue about strategies carried out by the British Government and ISIS (Islamic States of Iraq and Syria) in an effort to deceive British Muslims and to what extent the implied author contributed to identify the issue. This novel analysis related to the concept of Orientalism and Islamophobia by Edward Said. The uses of the theory is based on the interpretation of the text and context of the novel. The result of this analysis showed deceptions have done by two groups with different strategies. First, deception by British Government by manipulation and limited rights. Meanwhile, ISIS create propaganda.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the conversational implied meaning or called implicature in conversation between buyers and sellers in the traditional market of Lubuk Alung based on Grice‟s Cooperative Principle and its maxims. The main objective of this study was to analyza how utterance can go beyond its literal meaning by flouting some maxims by the speakers since flouting of maxims can generate implicature. Moreover, this study also analyzed the comparisons between male and female in flouting of maxim in buyers’ and sellers’ interaction in traditional market. The type of this research was descriptive qualitative by explaining conversational implicature without statistical procedure and counting process. Data from this study were obtained from conversations between buyers and sellers in traditional market that have been recorded by the researcher. After analyzing the data, researcher found the speakers (sellers and buyers) were more often flouted the maxim of manner. In contrast, maxim of quality was the fewest to be flouted by the speakers. In the conversation that have been recorded, female are more often flouted the maxim than male because female were more likely to bargain in the traditional market than male.

Abstract

This study analyzed theme patterns of 41 introduction sections of research articles written by undergraduate students of Indonesia, especially students of the English department in Universitas Negeri Padang. The sources of data are from e-journal archives of E-journal English Language and Literature (JELL) and Journal of English Language Teaching (JELT) of Universitas Negeri Padang. The data were analyzed by classifying the theme and rheme structure of clause sequences and then determining the patterns. This research is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach. The result of the findings shows that a simple linear pattern (42,70%) found to be the most dominant pattern of the theme found in the data. In addition, new patterns (27,35%) are also frequently used in the data. These findings indicate that most students tend to write their ideas more cohesive than coherent as the lack of using an interpersonal theme and derived hyper-theme pattern found in the data.

Abstract

This article is about the analysis of five poems by Alice Walker entitled Blessed Are The Poor In Spirit(BATPIS), If I was President(IIP), To Change The World Enough(TCTHE), Working Class Hero(WCH), You Want To Grow Old Like The Carter(YWTGOLTC)focuses on how the black woman who is represented by the speaker maintains her movement for a better life. The problem of this analysis is how far these poems exposes about the efforts of the speaker to get the position in the public area. The purpose of the analysis is to find out the way of the speaker to survive and achieve her goal. This analysis is involved the elements of poetry such as irony, imagery, tone and the speaker to reveal the issue of keeping on the path in these poems. This analysis is related to the concept of feminism by Bell Hooks. The result of this analysis shows that the speaker is able to keeping on the path for a better life .
