Abstract

The present study aims at answering the question as to how a language sets up limits for the thought, and vice versa, by examining the response that George Tarabichi gives to Mohammed Abed al-Jabri in terms of the dialectical relationship of Arabic language and thought by which it is expressed. In his works, Tarabichi proposes a strategy for his project in criticising the Arabic mind and its achievements, and for his increasing interest in criticising the dialectical relationship between the Language and thought and their properities. On the other hand, Tarabichi has addressed “the Jabri critical project” and refuted some of Jabri’s theses. This study examines a number of aspects within the debate of the two scholars, especially in terms of their methods in approaching language, dynamics of mind, situations of humanity, dialectic of Arab-non-Arab relations and their civlizational roles, their respective contribution to the Arabo-Islamic civilization, and of whether Arabic is merely an expansion of Bedouin culture or it is an expansion of the non-Arab cultures, especially Greek, Persian, and Indian. Keyword: Arabic Language and thought, civilization, Tarabichi, Jabri.

Abstract

Nahwu (Arabic Syntax) is one of language elements that has to be mastered in teaching standard Arabic and communicative approach can be applied, for it concerns with delivering both language elements and skills gradually based on certain language levels. When some problems in teaching Nahwu were observed at the Arabic Education Department  of Sunan Drajat Institute Lamongan, the reasercher  thought that a study should be conducted entitled “Developing Nahwu Teaching Model Based on Communicative Approach to Increase Speaking Skill”. The aims of this developmental research are: (1) to produce its teaching model, (2) to measure the impact of the implementation of students’ speaking abilty, and (3) to measure the impact of the motivation. The research using development research following Borg and Gall model. the result as following: First, the teaching nahwu model has steps, those are preparation, observation, presentation and simulation, association and generalitation and practice and the impact of nahwu teaching model is significant and can increase students’ motivation. Key words: Nahwu Teaching, Communicative Approach, Speaking Skill

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe (1) the implementation of Teams Games Tournaments strategy and using Pictures and (2) the results of teaching reading ability with Teams Games Tournaments strategy And Using Pictures. Based on the results of this study the researcher concluded that: First, teaching with Teams Games Tournamens strategy and using Pictures can learning effective and positive for students to making of reading text, that strategy is carried with gratify concept  by means of pictures and competition. Second, (a) Teams Games Tournaments strategy more effective than teaching with using Pictures only, (b) Teams Games Tournaments is fused with Pictures better than Teams Games Tournaments strategy without using Pictures or teaching with using Pictures without Teams Games Tournaments strategyKeywords: teams games tournaments, pictures, reading ability.

Abstract

Writing for foreign language learners, especially Arabic, is a difficult skill to master, and the difficulty is not only in the development of ideas but also and its composition. The steps that we can take to implement the teaching of writing are: (1) setting clear learning objectives, (2) establishing a theoretical framework that underpins the teaching of writing, (3) designing learning materials, (4) specifying elements relevant to the development of learning materials, (5) preparing the lesson plans, (6) selecting the instructional materials, (7) preparing the learning activities and assessment methods. The writing process is a process to overcome the difficulties that include elements of (1) the material in the subject matter under hand, (2) the author’s experience or knowledge, and (3) writing techniques. Kata Kunci: writing teaching and learning, Arabic, non-native speaker.

Abstract

The objectives of the study is to (1) develop Arabic learning material that uses contextual approach for the students of Islamic Economy department in the book product, (2)  know the validity and the feasibility of the book by using contextual approach for the students of Islamic Economic department. The research used research and development (R and D) method using ADDIE model. The data consisted of qualitative and quantitative, while the data instrument used questionaire and interview. The data were  analyzed using descriptive and qualitative statistics. The findings showed that the book product is valid and feasible with Arabic learning materials, concerning and related to the expert analysis and the user test. Keywords: Arabic learning material, contextual approach, validity and feasibility

Abstract

Textbook is one of the most important elements for a successful teaching and learning of Arabic.  Such a textbook serves to convey concepts and knowledge, to develop capacities and skills, and to satisfy needs and interests. Some students felt discouraged to speak in an Arabic speech class due to inconvidence and fear of error. Some found the Arabic speech class boring for its lacks lifely activities. Given the mentioned problems, this research aims at developing a textbook for Arabic speech course, whose materials are derived from real conversations. The developmental research uses ADDIE method, carried out in five stages: needs and problems analysis, product design, product development, product experimentation, and product evaluation. Data are collected through observation, interview and questionnaire, and are analysed using the Likert model. The resulted textbook, entitled “I love Arabic Conversation”, produced on the basis of the scientific approach, has been trialed in the Batu Bilingual High School, showing that it is valid and fits the students’ needs and skills well. Keyword: Arabic, conversation, texbook development, scientific approach.

Abstract

This article tries to find the linguistic problems in translation faced by Arabic students of STAIN Ponorogo, both in translating Arabic text to Indonesian language and Indonesian text to Arabic language. By error analysis of the daily tasks of students and answer sheets of translation exam, the writer find that the problem of translation in Arabic text to Indonesian language can be clasificacied in to three categories, 1) Vocabulary, 2) sentence arrangement, and 3) grammar. And for translating Indonesian text to arabic, there are four categories of errors, 1) vocabulary, 2) grammar, 3) vocabulary, and 4) transliteration. Keywords: linguistic problems, translation
