Abstract

Siam Banjar Citrus has a very bright prospect to be develoved, becomes a contributor to the national fruit products with various types and varieties and has the production that does not depend on seasons. Diplodia disease in citrus still becomes a major problem because it causes loss of high yield and affecth the gain of  production. The disease, caused by Botryodiplodia theobromae pat., indicates symptoms of lesions on citrus trunk, such as narrow lines on the trunk, and can cause plant death due to the disruption of transport of water and nutrients from the soil to the plants. The objectives of the research were to find out the effects of the interaction between Trichokompos fertilizer sp.,to determine the combination of Trichokompos fertilizer and Tricjoderma sp. Solution for Diplodia disease control. The study was conducted from january to april 2012, in Rantau Badauh sub- district. This experiment employed Randomized Blok Design (RBD) consisting of three replications and two factors , namely the dosage of  Trichokompos fertilizer (0 kg, 10 kg and 20 kg), and the dosage of  Trichoderma sp. (0 g/l lt EKG, 50 g/l lt EKG , 100 g/l lt EKG, 150g/l lt EKG and 200 g/l lt EKG). The observations were conducted on the presence of fungi and the measurement of bark lesions. The result showed  that there was no intraction between the two treatmeants, and the significant effect of the application of  Trichoderma sp. Against the widespread symptoms of  doplodia at all observation time with the best dosage was 50 g/l ECG. The results of the regression indicated that the higher concentration and the longer time of the applicatin of Trichoderma sp. Would reduce the widespread of symptoms caused by diplodia in citrus.

Abstract

Local wisdom in utilizing swamp soil and water to improve the quality of gelam wood in Central Kalimantan becomes an interesting phenomenon. Improving the quality of wood can economize on the use of wood, which in turn preserves the forests in peat swamp lands. Gelam (Melaleuca sp.) woods that are mostly found in peat swamp forests can be used as piles/stakes in swamp soil, and they are durable for decades. The general objective of this study was to provide a scientific explanation of the effect of peat swamp soil and water on improving the quality of gelam wood either in barked and barkless conditions. This study was conducted by taking gelam trees that grew in Central Kalimantan. It was carried out for 18 months, and investigated the barked/barkless woods, media (swamp water, freshwater, peat swamp soil, and sandy soil) and 3 lengths of burying times. Wood properties analyzed were physical and mechanical properties. The standard of physical-mechanical property tests referred to British Standard 373.The results showed that the interaction between bark factor (A) and media (B) affected specific gravity. Barked wood produced the highest spesific gravity in swamp water medium. Water media (swamp and fresh water) improved the wood’s specific gravity more than soil media (swamp and sandy soil). The highest values of hardness, stress on Proportional Limit, and Modulus of Elasticity were in the medium of swamp soil. The improvement of the quality of gelam woods, which were either buried or used as stakes/piles, was allegedly resulted from the swamp water infiltrating into gelam woods that thereby increased the specific gravity.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to obtain a proper ratio between the volume of water and the weight of shrimp heads in order to increase the protein content in shrimp sticks. The design used in the study was a completely randomized design (CRD) with treatment groups of 1:1, 1:2, and a control group without the addition of shrimp head extract. Water content, protein content, ash content and organoleptic test were the parameters measured. The results of the study show that the addition of white shrimp head extract in the treatment group with a 1: 1 ratio produced shrimp sticks with a protein content of 12.22%; in the treatment group with a 1: 2 ratio 13.44%; and in the control group without the addition of shrimp head extract only 5.54%. The addition of shrimp head extract also produced more preferred flavor compared to the one without the addition of the extract.

Abstract

This study aimed to (1) identify the distribution of fish-transporting vessels under the authority of South Kalimantan Province; (2) to analyze the causes of unregistered and unmarked fish-transporting vessels within the provincial authority; and (3) to analyze the causes of fishery capture licensing that continues to run without a Fishing Vessel Book (Buku Kapal Perikanan – BKP). This research activity was conducted at the Banjarmasin Fishing Port, Pelambuan Village, Banjarmasin Barat District, Banjarmasin City, South Kalimantan, with the fish-transporting vessel’s owners within the South Kalimantan authority as the research object. The data collected were the data sourced directly from the observation result in the research location, and other supporting data related to the research object. The results showed that the spreading of fish-transporting vessels that land their cargo at the Banjarmasin Fishing Port were found in Kotabaru Regency, Tanah Bumbu Regency, Tanah Laut Regency, Banjar Regency, Barito Kuala Regency, and Banjarmasin City. Based on the data, there are 183 fish-transporting vessels within South Kalimantan Province authority, but only 42 vessels or 23% ships that are registered as fishing vessels.  While for the marking of the vessels, 100% have not carried out marking as fishing vessels.  This is due to the unavailability of a standard BKP and the lack of understanding from the vessel owners. The Licensing of Fishery Capture in the form of SIUP and SIKPI is still issued by BPTSP using only recommendation from Department of Fisheries and Maritime Affairs of South Kalimantan Province.  The registration and marking of fish-transporting vessels of South Kalimantan Province Authority are not optimal due to the unavailability of a standard BKP that can be used as collateral so that a policy is needed from the local government in terms of budgeting funds for the procurement of BKP so that fish-transporting vessels in South Kalimantan Province can be registered and marked as Indonesian fishing vessels.

Abstract

This research projected the citizens and water demand in 13 regencies/cities in South Kalimantan Province from 2013 to the next 20 years. The results of the project were compared with the intake capacity to meet the demand in upcoming years. In projecting the population growth, five methods were used, namely aritmethic method, geometric method, linier regression method, exponential method and logarithmic method. The most appropriate method for projecting the population growth is the method which has the minimum value of standard deviation and the correlation value close to 1. Water demand was calculated based on some factors, such as the average water demand, the maximum level of water demand, and the water demand at peak hours. The existing intake capacity was then compared with the water demand projection. In almost all PDAM (Munipical Tap Water Company) observed, the capacity of water processing installation could not fullfill the water demand at the peak hours. The adequate intake capacity of PDAM was only in Balangan regency and Banjarmasin city.Keywords: intake capacity, South Kalimantan Province, urban water demand

Abstract

The study on the productivity of water lily seeds in South Kalimantan’s backswamps using Wageningen method and the interview with middle traders could give more information about water lily as food commodity. Rainfall pattern in Tabalong, Hulu Sungai Utara (HSU) and Hulu Sungai Selatan (HSS) regencies is like U letter. U type is sensitive with Monsoon. This Monsoon area is affected by easterly wind and local wind. When the sun is at the south side in October to March, the Monsoon moves from west to south east, and in the other way around in April to September, the wind moves from south east to west. In April, the height of water level in some different areas was the same. The highest water level was in Paharangan subdistrict that could reach more than 100 cm and the lowest was in Hambuku subdistrict, about 80 cm. Based on the interview with middle traders, it was found out that in Hambuku subdistrict and its surrounding area, there was about 1.0 to 1.7 t/ha of water lily seeds each period. In Ampukung, Hambuku and Paharangan subdistricts, the water lily seeds were about 1.121 t/ha, 1.057 t/ha and 0.653 t/ha, respectively. If the paddy fields in Tabalong, HSU and HST regencies are 10,683 ha, 21,2252 ha, and 18,763 ha, respectively, those areas potentially can yield about 11,976.661 t/ha, 224,456.2 t/ha and 12,254.6778 t/ha. Whereas, based on radiation (Rg), the photosynthetically active radiation on very clear days (Ac), in cal cm-2 day-1, and daily gross photosynthesis rate of crop canopies on very clear days (bc) in kg ha-1 day-1 for Pm = 20 kg CH2O ha-1 hr-1, it showed that the yield of hairy water lily seeds in Ampukung, Hambuku and Paharangan subdistricts was 1.1560 t/ha, 1.1425 t/ha and 1.1021 t/ha, respectively. Hairy water lily naturally grows with seeds in soil and water in paddy field, so it can grow, develop, and produce seeds. Therefore, agronomical technique is important for further study.Keywords: hairy water lily, Wageningen, yield potential.

Abstract

Forests are natural resources that provide double benefits, direct and indirect benefits. The direct benefit of forest is as a source of various types of goods, such as woods, saps, barks, leaves, roots, fruits, and flowers that can be used directly by humans or become raw materials for various industries. The special-purpose forest of Tumbang Nusa is a secondary peat swamp forest. Peat swamp forest is a forest formation quite widespread in Indonesia. The term arises because swamp forest and peat forest are basically always adjacent and often do not have clear boundaries that are so-called peat swamp forests. The purpose of this study was to find out the structure and species composition (species dominance, species diversity, species richness and species evenness) of secondary peat swamp forest vegetation in special-purpose forest of Tumbang Nusa, Jabiren Raya Subdistrict, Central Kalimantan Province. The results of the study showed that the vegetation structure by diameter classes was dominated by the vegetation with small diameter (0-9 cm) and by height classes was dominated by the vegetation with low height-class (0-5 m). The diversity of vegetation in the study plots showed that there were 42 species of vegetation consisting of 24 families, and the most common species found were the family of Lauraceae (5 species), Dipterocarpaceae (4 species), Myristicaceae, Myrtaceae and Guttiferae (3 species), Podocarpaceae, Apocynaceae, Ebenaceae, Moraceae and Annonaceae (2 species), and a few other family (one species of each). The species diversity at seedling and sapling stages was moderate (H' ≥ 2 and < 3) while the diversity at pole and tree stages was low (H' < 2). The values of species richness index at seedling, sapling and pole stages were moderate (R = 3.5 - 5.0) while at the tree stage was relatively low (R > 3.5). The species evenness index at seedling and sapling stages was high (E > 0.6) while at the pole and tree stages moderate (E = 0.3 to 0.6).

Abstract

This Research was occupied due to the frequent flood disaster in Indonesia especially in Banjarbaru city. South Kalimantan’s Research and Development Council in 2010 stated that the largest endangered flood are from spatially classification was Bangkal Village in Banjarbaru City. It became necessary to control by doing area zonation which determine the recharge area. This research was conducted survey method and data analysis by using information overlay from Geographic Information System. This research resulted the recommended recharge zone width was 2801,7 ha. In this research zone, the researchers gained 9 group of recharge zone and the development plan or activities to do. The researchers also configured some flooding potential classification, vary from 0,064 m/second to 0,078 m/second. The flooding water could be dried in at last 9,127 hours. The flood controlling efforts in settlement area biopores application and recharge wheel, for the water bodies were rivers normalization, planting trees or fruits and medical plants in buffer area. Social approach also could empowered the Bangkal Village Society with clean and sustainable environment competitions, environmental extension course about waste economic value and waste bank management.

Abstract

Rehabilitation of degraded peat-swamp forests, especially in Central Kalimantan Province, is becoming increasingly important in order to restore the ecological functions and maintain the biodiversity and carbon pool. The problem facing the rehabilitation effort is the limited knowledge about the techniques of rehabilitation on peat swamp lands using local species because inundation frequently occurs in this area during rainy season which greatly affects the growth of the plants. The purpose of this study was to analyze the level of resistance of plants to inundation on peat swamp lands in Pulang Pisau Regency, Central Kalimantan Province. The experiment was conducted in Taruna Jaya village, Jabiren subdistrict. Pulang Pisau Regency, using 14 different plant species endemic to peat swamp forests, with two factors, namely the level of immersion/inundation and plant species. In order to find out the plant resistance to inundation and the root growth, some variables were measured, such as the survival percentage of plants after tested in inundation and planted in the field, the assessment of the tree health using the criteria of Forest Health Monitoring (FHM), and the root-shoot ratio (RSR). The results showed that of the 14 species tested, Belangeran (Shorea balangera Korth) and Bintangur (Calophylum sp.) had good resistance to the condition of inundated soil, high adaptability in the field, and high value of RSR (root- shoot ratio). The plant species with high efficiency in absorbing nutrients and water were Shorea balangeran Korth, Calophyllum sp., Dyera polyphylla, and Alstonia pneumatophora. Those with the very high value of tree health were Alstonia pneumatophora, Calophyllum sp., D. pseudomalabarica, Dyera polyphylla, Shorea balangeran Korth, Trisraniopsis sp. and Stemonurus secondflorus.

Abstract

High demand for clean water in Banjarmasin requires PDAM Bandarmasih to do some developments, but its efforts are hindered by the water quality of raw water to be processed. It is therefore necessary to conduct a study on the water quality of raw water sources of PDAM Bandarmasih, especially during dry season. Water quality testing was carried out by performing direct experiments in the field and in the laboratory with 7 criteria including water temperature, electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids, pH, turbidity, salinity and dissolved oxygen that were compared with the criteria of water class B (water that can be used as the raw water for drinking water), on the basis of the Regulation of the Minister of Health of the Indonesia Republic No. 492/Menkes/PER/IV/2010. Based on the analyses of water quality in the field and in the laboratory from 4 intakes namely Sungai Tabuk, Pematang Panjang, Sungai Lulut and Sungai Bilu, and the comparison of the results with the test results of water quality of the samples from PDAM taken in dry season, indicated that the amount of salt content (salinity) in two intakes, Sungai Lulut and Sungai Bilu was so high that the production of clean water from both intakes was stopped temporarily during the dry season. The service for clean water was therefore provided only at the intakes of Sungai Tabuk and Pematang Panjang during dry season, resulting in some reduction in distribution to some areas in Banjarmasin.Keywords: quality, intake, salinity, PDAM Bandarmasih.
