Journal Albion Journal of English Literature, Language, and Culture. Journal Albion: Journal of English Literature, Language and Culture accepts articles in any literary related subjects and any research methodology that meet the standards established for publication in the journal The articles must be written in English. Journal Albion : Journal of English Literature, Language and Culture is published twice a year in April and October by The Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities Pakuan University. It has been published biannually since January 2019. Any submitted paper will be reviewed by reviewers. The review process employs a double-blind review that the reviewer does not know the identity of the author, and the author does not know the identity of the reviewers.

Abstract

This research was entitled "Analysis of Novel Ecranization Into the Film "Allegiant" by Veronica Roth". This study tried to discuss ecranization of novels into movies. This study is to review the intrinsic elements in Allegiant's novel, especially the setting, characters, plot, and style that underwent reduction, addition and modification in the film. This study conducted as a qualitative research. This study used descriptive method by analyzing novels and films. From this analysis the researcher found as well as a comparison of the changes in the ecranization of the Allegiant film novel namely 12 reductions, 5 additions, and 8 modifications. The characters in the reduction are 6 RDN, there are 2 RDN styles, 2 RDN plots then 2 RDN settings. In addition, there was 1 ADN in the setting and 4 ADN in the plot. Furthermore, in the modification, the researcher found 4 MDN in the setting, 1 MDN in character, and 3 MDN in the plot.

Abstract

This study focuses on the multicultural communication strategies employed by Indonesian postgraduate students during their study abroad experience at a university in Melbourne, Australia. Multicultural communication, as the main focus of this research, refers to communication between participants from different lingua-cultural backgrounds or nations, where their different conceptualizations and perspectives may lead to potential miscommunication. To achieve the research objective successfully, a qualitative method, specifically a semi-structured interview, was adopted to collect the data. 4 Indonesian postgraduate students who studied abroad in Melbourne, Australia were interviewed and asked about their cross-cultural misunderstanding experience during their sojourn period in Australia. They were also asked how they negotiated meaning and overcame language barriers when they communicated with local Australians or other international students. The collected data were analyzed and discussed in reference to strategies for multicultural communication theoretical framework. The findings of this study demonstrate that the respondents implemented a range of strategies to achieve successful intercultural communication, and the observation of others was deemed as one of the most effective methods. The outcomes of this research could provide a useful reference for students who plan to study abroad, especially in Melbourne, Australia, on the various strategies they can use to have effective communication across cultures.

Abstract

This research investigates how community ideology relates to cultural expressions and the religious experiences of its members. Maiyah Jamparing Asih is a religious study community with unique practices. The study focuses on how the formation of community ideology ultimately influences and is reflected in the cultural expressions of the Maiyah Jamparing Asih community. This research adopts a qualitative approach using ethnography. Participant observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis are the methods employed to collect data. Members of the Maiyah Jamparing Asih community, along with community elders, are the research respondents. The results reveal that the community ideology of Maiyah Jamparing Asih emphasizes spiritual values, unity, and social harmony. The strongly understand religious teachings and strives to incorporate them into daily life. In Maiyah Jamparing Asih, cultural expressions are reflected in various aspects of action, such as performance arts, music, contemporary and traditional poetry and religious rituals and expressions. These expressions also illustrate how community ideology shapes their cultural practices and meanings. This research provides a better understanding of how community ideology relates to cultural expressions in the context of religiosity.Keywords: Ideology, Maiyah, Religion,  Culture.

Abstract

Polygamy in the context of  Indonesian society is frequently seen as an issue that is related to  pro and contra attitudes shown by women in terms of how they respond to such marriage system. The issue of polygamy raised in this article is focusing on the discourse of polygamy built in this film, Berbagi Suami (Love for Share) (2006), through the study of the female central characters that experienced polygamous marriages. The aim is to reveal the discourse of polygamy in this film through Hall's constructionist approach and Foucault's discourse concept using descriptive analysis methods and semiology. The results of the analysis show that the discourse of polygamy in the Indonesian context is described as a matter of pros and cons that comes from women’s responses to polygamous marriages. Despite the pros and cons, polygamous marriage is still seen as a complex marriage system that is detrimental to women.  Women are represented as victims that are shown by the impacts obtained from polygamous marriages such as economic hardship, not getting the justice they deserve, physical abuse, exhausting physiological and physiological conditions, and social labeling.

Abstract

Sexual harassment has been rampantly happening in universities in Indonesia and has become the focus of the government, higher education institutions, and most people in Indonesia to tackle the problem. In actual practice, the victims of this violence do not speak up since they have experienced the epistemic violence over the threats given by the perpetrators. This research dismantles the news construction on Syafri Harto’s sexual violence case in Riau University, Indonesia. The data sources were six news headlines derived from three online news sites, such as cnnindonesia.com, kompas.com, and news.detik.com. The collected data taken were six news titles on Syafri Harto’s sexual harassment case within the university. Moreover, the data analysis took Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) by Norman Fairclough. The research finding shows that the headlines take diverse syntactical functions and dictions, the sites have different characteristics in producing the news, and the sexual harassment case is seriously discussed as a collective concern.

Abstract

This term paper aims to identify Bunny, the main characters idealism through the social class theory based on the World War background. The objective of this research is identify, analyze, and describe the development of the main characters idealism and the factor that affect the development. The method that this researh used are qualitative and decriptive analysis through the intrinsik elements approach. The result of this research show that Bunnys idealism can develop from the idealism that close to the kapitalism class because of his father teaching to the idealism that supporting the proletarian class. This research also found the factor that affect the development of Bunnys idealism such as other character, backgruond, plot and conflict. The fifth section contains the implications of the research represented by one sentence. The fifth part is an optional part, meaning that it may or may not be conveyed.

Abstract

This thesis analyzes gender injustice experienced by the female main character by applying qualitative descriptive analysis as the method in this research. The main data source used in this research is the novel A Spark of Light by Jodi Picoult. The research finding posits that the main character experiences gender injustice in the form of violence and stereotypes because of her decision to commit abortion. Another finding also indicates that abortion is still socially and culturally perceived as a negative action that should not be done by a woman.
