Abstract

Some equipments which are used in petroleum industries, chemical industries, steam power-plants and nuclear reactors must avoid the flooding phenomena in order to work at optimal condition. The purpose of this research is to investigate the effects of inclination and obstacle on flooding onset at counter-current air-water and air-kerosene flows with porous inlet and sharp outlet. The model of obstacle was conformed to industrial application i.e .pipe joining or pipe scaling. Experimen ts were conducted in a plexyglass pipe of 25.4 mm diameter and 2500 mm length of test section at annular flow pattern. The variation of inclination of ducts are 90o, 80o and 60o. The geometry of the obstacle is a ring with rectangular cross sectional which is installed with a distance 600 mm or 1200 mm from the inlet. The result of the research indicated that the effects of inclination and obstacle of ducts are significant toward flooding onset. Flooding phenomena was indicated with drastic increase of pressure gradient above the liquid inlet. Flooding phenomena happened earlier of larger inclination of the ducts and nearer obstacle of the inlet. This phenomena also early happened at kerosene which have higher viscosity and lower surface tension than water

Abstract

Quality Control (QC) is one of the most important components in the manufacturing process. The aim is to determine whether a product is feasible to market. One aspect of QC is the size / dimension of the object to be made. If the size is still within the range of tolerance, then it has passed the QC in terms of size, but if not then it includes a failed product. The problem encountered is that it takes a long time to take measurements, especially objects in the third dimension where each part is different as microdrill, zipper etc. To overcome this weakness, a CCD camera is used as a sensor to record images and then use LabVIEW software to analyze the size of the recorded image. This is a preliminary study so that it is only done for objects with two dimensions with square and circular shapes. From the research that has been done, the measurement with the camera gives results that are almost the same as the use of calipers where the standard deviation fluctuates from 0.3 to 23.8 for circles and 0.54 to 32.05 for squares. Furthermore, the time needed to do one measurement process with the camera ranges from 201 ms to 338 ms whereas using the calipers takes 3 to 5s

Abstract

Reverse Engineering (RE) is a process in manufacturing that aims to reproduce or recreate existing models, either components, sub-components, or products without using existing design documents or working drawings. Through this reverse engineering idea, the process of making the Pump Block component is started with making part and mold design, making sand casting, then finished with machining processes. The machining process that is carried out is the turning process, the milling process, and the drilling process which is assisted by using jigs and fixture to make it easier on finishing the Pump Block parts in the machining process. By using the processes, so it is produced the similar pump block that is resemble with desired original object.

Abstract

The design of the palm frond chopper machine for animal feed is a vocational application. The purpose of making palm frond chopper machines for animal feed is to help the community open a business field, especially the development of livestock production who grow oil palm. It is an expected that the palm frond chopper machine can help the community to improve economic output. This machine has dimensions of 600 mm x 500 mm where the working principle of the machine is to cut using a blade to accelerate the cutting process. Blade rotation is a obtained by using 3 HP motor and using pulley 5 inch as a tool to rotate the knife plate.

Abstract

The problem in this research was the low performance of student in the Practical of Mechanical Workshop Mechanical Engineering Study Program Polytechnic State of Padang in the implementation of learning practices that affected by occupational safety and health , student discipline, and guidance of lecturer. This study aims to analyze the relationship occupational safety and health, student discipline and guidance of lecturer with the student practice performance of mechanical workshop Mechanical Engineering Study Program Polytechnic State of Padang. This study was a correlational study with a quantitative approach. The population of the research is all the student of 2016 with consisted of 125 people. The sampling technique used is proportional random sampling, that 96 people as a sample and 29 people were respondents taken from the population. Data were collected through a questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. The results showed that, 1) there is a strong and positive correlation between occupational safety and health with the student practice performance with rhitung (0.463)> rtabel (0,199); 2) There is a strong and positive correlation between discipline with performance of students practical with rhitung (0.479)> rtabel (0,199); 3) There is a strong and positive relationship between the guidance of lecturers with the performance of student practical with rhitung (0.451)> rtabel (0,199); 4) there is a very strong and positive together occupational safety and health discipline students and guidance of the lecturer with the performance of student practical rhitung (0.525)> rtabel (0,199).

Abstract

Sanding work is a stage that is carried out before entering the finishing process to remove defects and smooth the surface of the object. The main purpose of making sanding machines with this mechanical belt system is to help and simplify the sanding process. The method for making sanding machines with mechanical belt systems is: needs analysis, problem analysis and specifications, problem statements, concept design, technical analysis, work drawing and tool testing. The results of the design of the sanding machine with a mechanical belt system are obtained in the form of a design with a working drawing of a sanding machine with a mechanical belt system. The sanding machine with a mechanical belt system has specifications that are 500 mm long, 350 mm wide, and 1400 mm high. The source of driving the sanding machine with a mechanical belt system is an electric motor ¼ HP with 2800 rpm rotation. The transmission system uses pulleys. The sanding machine with a mechanical belt consists of several components, namely the engine frame, electric motor, pulleys, tables, belt aplas, and adjustment of the belt strength of the sandpaper. The belt pulley used is from ST 37 with a diameter of 25 mm and pulley rotation of 2800 rpm. Frame construction uses hollow iron measuring 40x40x3 mm from ST 37 material. The table uses 590x150 acrylic material.
