Abstract

Banana is one of the favorite tropical fruit. Banana business development begins with the provision of quality seeds. Tissue culture is a seed propagation technology that can produce large amounts of seed and a relatively short time by utilizing limited plant material. The planlets result of tissue culture needs to be acclimatization before planted in the field. Hydroponic substrate-based acclimatization is expected to produce seeds that are free from soil pathogens. Adjustment of the concentration of nutrients is important in order to produce a growth response that significantly affects and does not cause poisoning or plasmolysis. This study aims to determine whether hydroponic substrate  types  and  nutrient  concentrations  affect  the  growth  of  Raja  Bulu  Kuning  Banana  plantlets.  The experiment was carried out at net house, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sebelas Maret Surakarta in October 2016 - January 2017. The treatment factors were substrate types (bagasse, arenga peat, steamed husk) and concentration of the nutrient solution (equivalent to EC 1.8,  EC 2.0, and EC 2.5 mScm-1). The result showed that steamed husk is the best as the hydroponic substrate, while nutrient solution concentration equivalent to EC 1.8 mScm-1 is sufficient for acclimatization of Banana plantlets cv.Raja Bulu Kuning.

Abstract

Punung is a village in Pacitan Regency which potentiall for cultivating of cocoa, on the contrary it produces low seeds quality. This condition is caused by unintensive fertilization and low light intensity caused by shading. The effort to increase cocoa seed quality was by light compensation and the use of nitrogen (N) fertilizer. The purpose of this reseach was to determine of optimum N dosage fertilizer for inproving seed quality. The research was arranged in Completely Randomized Block Design with one factor which is the varies N dosages (0 as control, 820, 870, and 920 gram plant-1 year-1), level of radiation represented as blocks. Nitrogen fertilization was applicated three times. Fertilization of P (SP36) and K (KCl), 1390 and 1000 gram tree-1 year-1 respectively. The observation variables are soil character, micro climate, leaf anatomi, physical and chemical seed quality. The result showed that N fertilizer influenced positively toward increasing potassium (K) content in leaf tissue on the first and second month, while on the third month no significant influence toward N, P and K content. However there was preference of increased N, P and K content in leaf tissue on each month although in small rise number. In the leaves tissue, there was detected that nitrogen proportion was larger than potassium and phosphorus. N fertilizer increased the physical and chemical seed quality (protein and fat content). Optimum dosage was 870 gram tree-1 year-1, highest weight of 100 seed (146 gram) and seed quality was categorized as grade 1.

Abstract

Fertilization is any effort that aims to increase the availability of nutrients needed by plants, and increase crop production. The study aimed to obtain fertilizer types, fertilizer dosages and combinations of types and dosages of fertilizers suitable for growth and yield of Crystal Guava plants. The study was conducted on October 2018 to Mei 2019 on farmer’s land, Banjarsari Kulon Village, Sumbang District, Banyumas Regency and Agronomy and Horticulture Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, Jenderal Sudirman University. The experimental design used was a Randomized Completely Block Design (RCBD) with 2 factors and 3 replications. The first factor was the type of fertilizer, namely NPK, SP-36 and MKP fertilizers. The second factor was fertilizer dosage, namely 20 g / plant, 30 g / plant, 40 g / plant and 50 g / plant. Observed data were done by Analysis of Variance and if it significantly affected then DMRT (Duncan’s Multiple Range Test) was carried out at the level of 5%. The results showed that the most effective type of NPK fertilizer and dosage of 20 g / plant. The combination of NPK fertilizer with a dose of 20 g / plant was the most effective treatment for increasing the growth and yields of the Crystal Guava plant.

Abstract

Cricula  trifenestrata  Helfer  (Lepidoptera;Saturniidae) are  insect  pest  of  avocado,  walnuts,  and  cashews.  C. trifenestrata is most destructive insect pest of cashews, but there is no serious control by farmers. The questions about the effect of C. trifenestrata to cashew’s yield. This study aimed to determine the correlation and regression attack  degree of  C.  trifenestrata to  the  number of  flowers and  seeds produced by cashew. Research was conducted by a survey of 30 cashew plants with 6 samples unit at each plant. The parameters observed in this study were plant varieties, plant age, time appears caterpillar, caterpillar number, the attack rate, days to flowering, the number of bunches, flower, and seed. The data were analysed by the correlation and regression analysis. The results showed a positive correlation between the degree of caterpillar attacks to number of flowers and seeds. Increasing degree of attacks may increase the number of flowers and seeds.

Abstract

One of the efforts to increase the national rice productivity is by improving rice cultivation system. Seed is one of the important factor in the cultivation of rice crops. Seed quality influenced by the age of seed in the nursery before planting. Indirectly, the age of seed transplantation will affect the growth and productivity of rice crops. This research conducted to find out the effect age of seed transplantation and the suitable age of seed transplantation to obtain the optimal rice productivity. Completely Random Block Design were used in this research with the age of seed transplantation as a treatment. Four treatments consist of 0, 12, 21, and 35 days after seedling. The growth parameters were observed including plant height and number of tillers, while production parameters including number of productive tillers, dry weight of grain harvest and milled (kg), 1000 grain weight, and productivity. The data were analyzed by analysis of variance, if there is significantly different continued by DMRT 5% level. The result showed that the age of seed transplantation effects on growth and production parameters, and obtained the highest rice productivity at the 21 age of seed transplantation.

Abstract

No tillage system (NTS) can save time and cost more efficiently in corn cultivation. The NTS system is closely related to herbicide use. The aimed of this study to study the effect of herbicide paraquat dichloride 276 g / L in suppressing weed growth in hybrid corn plantations with NTS. The study was conducted in April-September 2017 on land located in Tenjolayar Village, Cigasong District, Majalengka with an altitude at 193 above the sea level. The experiments used Randomized Complately Block Design (RCBD) with 6 treatments and 4 replications so there’re 24 experimental plots. The treatment were 1) 0.75 L / ha + TOT, 2) 1 L / ha + TOT, 3) 1.25 L / ha + TOT, 4) 1.5 L / ha + TOT, 5) Weeding manual + TOT, and 6) Control (OTS). Differences between treatments were tested using the F test, while to test the average value of treatment used Duncan's Multiple Distance Test 5%. Herbicide paraquat dichloride 276 g / L affects could suppress weed growth done on 1 week after application and 5 weeks after application. The optimum dose of paraquat dichlorthereide 276 g / L in weed control in hybrid corn plantations was 1.5 L / ha at 1 week after application and 5 weeks after application.

Abstract

Arrowroot  able  to  be  alternative  food  because  it  has  high  enough  carbohydrate  content.  The  increase  of productivity of arrowroot can be reached by using plant spacing and fertilization. This study aims to determine the effect of plant spacing and fertilization, also their interaction on growth and yield of arrowroot (Maranta arundinacea L.). This research was held from March to November 2016 in the experimental land, Faculty of Agriculture, Sebelas Maret University. This research arranged in Completely Randomized Block Design (CRBD) consisted of 2 factors; dosage of N,P,K fertilizer (with 3 levels) and plant spacing (with 2 levels). Each treatment was repeated 4 times. The data obtained analyzed with analysis of variance and followed with Duncan Multiple Range Test at 5% level if any significant influences. The results showed that the interaction between plant spacing of 30x40 cm and urea, Sp36 and KCl 300Kg-1ha significantly increased the number of tillers and diameter of arrowroot respectively. The use of plant spacing 30x40 cm tends to increase growth and better yield. The use of 300 Kg-1ha Urea, SP36 and KCl fertilizer significantly increased plant height, while 150  Kg/ha urea,  SP36 and  KCl fertilizer significantly increased the number of tuber crops.

Abstract

Pumpkin is a promising commodity to be developed as food substitute for flour-based flour. Pumpkin cultivation is currently cultivated by farmers on dry land as secondary crop. Pumpkin cultivation constraints as requires a large area and long time. Pumpkin commodities development can be done by hydroponic substrates cultivation that have advantages to accelerate the plant growth, can be cultivated on limited area, and increase the quality of plant yields. The hydroponic substrate cultivation depends on the quality of nutrients as well as the availability of the nutrients. The aim of this research is to study the response of plant flowering to the composition of nutrients (modification of the balance of Nitrogen and Phosphor) and concentration of hydroponic substrate nutrition solution and interaction between treatments. This research used Completely Randomized Design which consists of 2 factors, nutritional composition and concentration of solution with 3 replications and each treatment consist of 6 plants. Observation variables included flower age, flower position, and number of flowers. The results showed that there were interactions between the treatment of nutrient composition and adjustment concentration on the observing variables flower age appear, and flower position. Nutritional composition with the balance of elements of Phosphorus and Nitrogen shows the higher balance of Phosphorus elements followed by lower Nitrogen elements tend to give a lower response to flowering pumpkin on hydroponic substrate. Adjustment lower concentration of application solutions (20 ml concentrated in 1 L solution) or equivalent to EC 3.8-4.0 mS/cm gives a better response to flowering pumpkin on hydroponic substrate.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the bamboo ash and straw compost on brown planthopper and rice production. This research was conducted in Bakaran, Sukosari Village, Jumantono, Karanganyar in 12ndDecemberMarch 2017. The study was conducted using Complete Randomized Block Design (RCBD) in paddy fields consisting of 16 plots, each was 16 m2 with Bamboo Leaftreatment, Straw Compost, and Chemical Silica with SiO2of 200 kg-1ha dosage. The variables observed were: Population of brown planthopper, stem hardness, plant height, number of tillers, number of productive tillers, weight of 100 seeds, weight of filled seed, hollow seed weight and percentage of hollow seeds. The data obtained were analyzed by Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and if there was a significant difference, it followed by Duncans Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at 5% level. The results showed that bamboo leaf ash and straw compost not significan increase the hardness of the rice plant stems and brown planthopper population. Straw compost has the highest potential compared to other treatments because it produces the hardest stem rice and the lowest brown planthoppers population at 11 Weeks. The application of silica from various sources has no direct role in rice production.

Abstract

Arrowroot (Marantha arundinacea) is potential plant to be developed in Indonesia. Arrowroot usually grows wild without special treatment so that makes the productivity is low. The purpose of research was to find the suitable planting age and seeds origin of arrowroot. The research was conducted from October 2016 to November 2017 at Experimental Field of Agriculture Faculty of Universitas Sebelas Maret. The research used RCBD (Randomized Completed Block Design) with two factors.The treatment of planting age consist of 3 levels (1 month, 2 months, 3 months) and seeds origin consist of 2 levels (tuber seeds and seed of nursery), each is repeated 4 times with 3 plants each replication. The results showed that the planting age treatment at 1 month of planting age has the better result compared with other treatments in almost every variables observed i.e plant height, number of tillers, tuber lenght, diameter tuber, and tuber weight per plant. The number of leaves,fresh weight plant, dry weight plant, and number of tubers are not significantly different at 1 month of planting age, although the plant is higher. The highest lenght of tuber is 20,5 cm from 2 months of planting age. Tuber weight of planting age treatment reached 31,8–124,9 gram per plant. Seed of nursery showed better results than tuber seeds although not significanly different. Between planting age and origin of seeds was no interaction.
