Abstract

Environmental ethics are born out of an environmental crisis. Basically, humans are part of nature. That's why environmental problems are human problems. Humans are really aware that the main problem of human life today is not a matter of running out or limiting natural resources, but rather a matter of increasingly severe natural damage. It is becoming increasingly recognized that the depletion of natural resources may still be offset by the discovery of new technologies. Therefore, the matter of limitation or depletion of natural resources because they are managed by humans is not a matter of life or death. As for the matter of life or death for us today is the environmental crisis. So, a more urgent problem is the environmental damage which is already so concerning, especially the environment in urban areas. What absolutely must be limited is the increasing pressure on ecological systems due to the negative effects of human activities. The capacity of nature to accommodate the pressures of air pollution and water pollution, land degradation in cities cannot be matched by new technology.

Abstract

Abdi dalem is the way of life for some Javanese people in Yogyakarta. They did to get inner peace and happiness in their life more than to seek wealth or social status. They lives in three tradisional wisdom: ngabekti, submission, and obedience as part of the tradition of worshiping in Ngayogyakarta Palace. The three pearls of wisdom are manifestations of the concept of “practice” (laku) as a form of obedience in Javanese philosophy. First, they believe that human beings live in two cosmos: the macro-cosmos (jagad-ageng) and the micro-cosmos (jagad-alit). Hence, the universe control all about life, and human beings depend on them that can determine their’s salvation. So they try to manage and maintain a close relationship in unity with the universe so that humans receive prosperity and salvation. Second, the world has limited by the presence of the dying, but they believe there is life after death. So that the “practice” leads man to be united with the Creator. Third, the “practice” is understood as an effort to looking for inner peace and become a “blessing” for herself and her family. For this reason, the question to be answered in this research is: how Abdi Dalem reflects on the practice of obedience in order to be a turning point to understanding the obedience of Jesus Christ to God.Obedience was based on human freedom, like Christ who emptied himself to obey his Father. So the practice of obedience contains the elements of kenosis in the practice of self-emptiness, self-control, and humility. The practice of obedience is also based on human freedom which is directed towards prosperity and salvation. The obedience will bring “blessings” to him, his family, and the society in which he was. Finally, perfect obedience requires a foundation: faith in Christ who has revealed himself, suffered, died, and then rose to bring redemption to mankind.

Abstract

This paper contains a theological study of Saint Joseph in the context of filling in the year of Saint Joseph which Pope Francis announced in the apostolic letter of Patris Corde. Two questions were raised at the start of this essay: Why is there no discipline of dogmatic theology that deals with theology of Saint Joseph? Is it possible for the theological study of Saint Joseph to be called Josephology, as Mariology and Christology have also been recognized? After basic biblical accounts, teachings and thoughts of the Magisterium of the Church, the pastoral appeal of the liturgy and the possibility of the discipline of Josephology, four points are finally found. First; This paper is called an introduction to Saint Joseph's theology because its establishment as a theological discipline is in the Magisterium of the Church, the holder of infallibility in the teaching of the faith. Second; as an introduction, this paper has only elaborated only a part or less of it, and it is proven that it has not completely explored all knowledge of Saint Joseph, because his new exposition of the biblical basis and a number of the teachings of the Pope, while theological thinking in the tradition of the Church fathers has not been given a place. Third; If it is recognized that the existence of Josephology or Saint Joseph's theology, then this discipline cannot be categorized in the dogmatic theology group of sciences but may be recognized as contextual theology, or rather it is called Saint Joseph's contextual theology. As a scientific discipline, Saint Joseph's theology, or Josephology, describes the observance of faith and piety of Saint Joseph's behavior which God engages in the work of salvation. Fourth; the way to pursue the theology of Saint Joseph or Josephology, not only by reading books of knowledge about the excellence and uniqueness of this father of the faithful, but also by persevering in devotional prayer with him.

For Indonesian Catholics who are a minority group the idea of "Being Indonesian Catholics" needs to be explored continuously. As a minority Church often faced with difficult situations and causing fear of the people to be actively involved in life together in society. Using a method of critical reading of the idea of "Becoming an Indonesian Catholic" according to Cardinal Ignatius Suharyo's view, this study find the following points: First, being an Indonesian Catholic mean that the Church is actively involved in reviving the foundation of the Indonesian state, Pancasila in life with the light of Christian faith. Second, Catholics are called not to be afraid to speak out the truth in society, because Catholics are called to be salt and light in the community wherever they are sent. Third, Catholics have always developed a proactive dialogue attitude amidst plurality.

Abstract

Understanding of mysticism take us cross borders and dogmatic barriers to see how the richness of qualities are displayed in silence and solitude. An attempt to connect God with a contemplating heart through austerities, meditation and self-torture is an attempt to mediate oneself with the Divine Thing. This divine treasure from the wealth of spirituality, open a discussion to heal the wounds of God's rationalization by dwarfing the Infinite into a finite mind. It is as if the rationalization of God is a form of perfect capture that is not challenged by the understanding itself. Now we are brought to look at eclecticism and the requestion of the diversity of divine perspectives to find common understanding in treating God, the universe and others. God in the capture of mysticism monism is implemented in various forms, and they are placing the catch with the deepest reverence and exaltion that is reflected in their understanding of karma. Karma is a dogmatic balancing equilibrium that is often interpreted gratuitously to destroy nature in the name of craving for money and eliminating others in the name of views. From them,we learn to manage nature and respect others because for mysticism true warfare is war against oneself, not others for any reason.

Abstract

This article analyzes the problem of virtual learning communication that does not answer the demands of humanist education, namely carrying out not only "transfer of knowledge" and "transfer of skills" but also "transfer of values". What is difficult to do in virtual lectures is not the transfer of knowledge and skills but the transfer of values. Because knowledge can be learned and skills can be trained through technology, but values are not primarily learned or trained using tools but are put into practice and it is not the case in virtual lectures. The weakness of virtual lectures is that there is no face-to-face meeting, even though such an encounter is demanded by all theories of humanist education. Face-to-face communication is important in education, because this type of communication is needed to create the spiritual and emotional intelligence of students. Meanwhile virtual lectures only answer intellectual intelligence. Facing this condition, lecturers are required to have a caring spirit as taught by Bulla "Miserdicodiae Vultus". Caring is the basic value for other humanist values that must be possessed by a lecturer, such as: dedication, patience, responsibility and attention.

Abstract

The focus of this paper is to discuss Martin Buber's dialogical philosophy, namely the relation I and It, I andThou and its relevance to caring for the value of responsibility in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. For some people, the Covid-19 pandemic is an opportunity to profit at the expense of others. Some time ago the public was enlivened with news about corruption in social assistance funds and used antigen tests. This event shows a crisis of awareness of the meaning of one's existence to others around him. Other people are considered as objects for the sake of economic interest alone. Therefore, Martin Buber's idea seeks to reawaken awareness about the relationship between human beings. Through his dialogical philosophy he explains that the other is a part of me and I am responsible for it. The method used in this paper is a critical analysis of Martin Buber's philosophical thinking and its relevance in fostering a sense of responsibility in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. The finding in this article are that others are part of me and their presence is a blessing for me so that I must be responsible for others.

Abstract

The research aims to inventory, critical evaluation, synthesis, and gain a new understanding of Karl Marx's religious criticism. This research is qualitative descriptive using literature study methods. The finding in this study is that marx actually continued feuerbach's religious criticism. According to Marx, Feuerbach's religious criticism was limited to religious criticism. Religious criticism should come down to the situations and conditions that give birth to religion. According to Marx, those who gave birth to religion were man, the human world, society, and the state. Therefore, religious criticism must reach its root, namely criticism of the social conditions of the people who gave birth to religion. Religion as human alienation because in reality human life is always oppressed by other groups of people who are more powerful. To free himself from this exile, Marx concluded that there needed to be a total revolution of oppressed society against the oppressor. The main purpose of this revolution is to free people, especially the oppressed from various alienation, especially social alienation. This, according to Marx, can be achieved by abolishing the system of private ownership of the means of production controlled by upper society. By removing the system of private ownership of the means of production, there will also be classes in society so that a society without classes arises. From this we know that the main purpose of Marx's religious criticism is not religion in se but rather in the concrete real situation of human social life oriented towards exploiting humans. From this we know that the main purpose of Marx's religious criticism is not religion in se but rather in the concrete real situation of human social life oriented towards exploiting humans. Religious criticism was a demonstration of Marx's mind concerned with the living conditions of the workers of his day. The ultimate goal of this criticism is human sociality. There is no more slavery of the workers by the capitalists. Marx wanted an equal life.

Abstract

Water is a life’s symbol. Lack of water means loosing hope and life for the future. Nowadays, water’s scarcity is caused by deforesting. Environmental crisis causes some effect for human life, especially fresh water’s sustainability. Therefore, environmental crisis can be reflected based on human being’s experience facing many good creatures. Planting trees, such as Ficus benjamina, or known as weeping fig trees which held by Baturetno Parish, Wonogiri, Central Java, is one of the example how to reflect, respond, and care for our common home, our mother earth. There are some points that will be achieved through this programs such as reconciliation with nature, solidarity with the poor, and making collaborations in the context of dialogue. This environmental crisis is connected to human beeing’s relation with nature and God, even others. If the relationship between human being and God is broken, which caused by greed and self-centeredness minded we cannot live in harmony. Furthermore, I am trying to do a theological reflection according to Christiana Z. Peppard’s paradigm about “just water” and participation to take care of the earth. On the other hand, Laudato Si will complete this interpretation by inviting human being and institutions to make a self-conversion as a responsibility to take care of our common home. Pope Francis emphasized the commitment to proclaim the Good news through the actions. For God’s creation is a part of the Good news. These paradigms finally are able to be an instrument to make a theological reflection on planting movement in the context of Baturetno Parish.
