Abstract

The text of Jn 15:14-15 speaks of the friendship between Jesus and His disciples, between God and man. Jesus, The Logos became flesh (Jn 1:14), reveals in Himself a God who befriends man and gives His own life because of the love of friends (Jn 15:13). The initiative in this relationship is God, and therefore being His friends is a gift, a condition of 'grace'. For Jesus, the disciples are friends and not servants. The reason for this fact is given both by the commandment of love and the knowledge of the revelation of Jesus. Thetext of John15:14-15is part of thechapter, showsthatthe secondfarewell discourseat the Last Supper, and is divided into2 parts: the metaphorof the vine (15:1-17) andthe hatred of theworld (15:18-27). Many scholarsdivided thefirst partinto two sections; the metaphor of thevine and the branches (15:1-11) andthe commandment of love (5:12-17). Therearemany differences betweenservantand friend, butinthis verse of (15:15), Jesus clearlyshows only onethat is knowledge. Aservant does not knowwhathis master is doing, so he does nothave the knowledgeof the secretsof the master. Instead, Jesus gaveto His discipleswhat he hadheard from His Father. They, then, have the knowledge. Jesushasrevealed to themHisdivine mysteries, its secrets, andwhenthe disciplesse, know andaccept them, andstillbelievein Him, they become friends (cf. Jn1:35-51; 2:11; 6:68-69; 14:1-31a). The knowledgeof His secrets, then, is the central pointthat distinguishesthem as friends.

Abstract

Since the beginning of the philosophical or theological discourse about God, there has been a problem of validity of a proposition about God. God is unlimited and human faculty is limited, so God in Him Self can not be totally comprehended by human intellect. Based on this concept Lateran Council explained that “inter creatorem et creaturam non potest (tanta) similitude notari, quin inter eos maior sit dissimilitude notanda”. How can we think and talk about God while at the same time respecting God’s mystery? Analogia entis would be a helpful solution in a discourse and proclamation about God.

Abstract

“For what we laid down in the beginning as universal requirement when we were founding our city, this i thing, or some form of this, is justice. And what we did lay down, and often said, if you recall, was that each one man must perform one social service in the state for which his nature was best adapted. And we said again that to do one’s own business and not to be a busybody is justice”.

Abstract

Currently science is found in a paradoxical situation: the basis of scientific activity and the interrelations between science, technology, industry, society and State are strongly questioned and criticized, at the same time that the worldly idea of science as the only motor for human development prevails. There is where the idea of bioethics arises as trans-disciplinary knowledge –for, to and from life- as another way of doing and producing knowledge. This article will explain about the relationship between bioethics and Christian ethics. In particular way, to see the impact and contribution of bioethics for Christian ethics. Dialogue of both is so necessary to respond the challenges of the accelerate progress of biomedicine and biotechnology, and in the same time, to put the ethics limits for technological progress in our times today. It is the way to reach a science and technology development that more responsibility, while respecting for human life and dignity. The fundamental question to be answered through this article is whether the bioethics is a problem or a solution for the human ethics today?

Abstract

In this article the author presents the views of the Catholic Church herself about the identity of Catholic schools. This view is spread in a number of Church documents both issued by the Vatican II and by the Pope and Roman Dicasteries. According to this view, Catholic schools have a basic call to educate children and young people to become individuals who have integrity, wisdom and firm faith. For this reason, every Catholic School must continue to maintain a supernatural vision, a strong anthropological foundation, an integral education, the spirit of unity and togetherness of all those involved in the educational process and sustained by the living testimony of the teachers.

Abstract

“The goal of education according to Habermas is to humanize human being. There was a wise man from India ever said that an answer against one thousand problems was education. Nelson Mandela also said: education was the most powerful weapon that we could use to change the world. These all show us that education becomes a very urgent need of human life. Through education human being is processing to be more human and finding the solution against a number of problems of his/her life like poverty, ignorance and many other cases”.

Abstract

In principle justice touches the human nature as social animal. The discourse of justice has become an important theme in social and political philosophy all the times. St. Thomas Aquinas is one of the philosophers who pays much attention on this theme. In Summa Theologiae, he spent a lot of pages to explain justice as one of the cardinal virtues. Inspired by Aristotle, he defined justice as “a habit whereby a man renders to each one his due by a constant and perpetual will.” This essay wants to explain the discourse of justice according to St. Thomas Aquinas and to compare it with the concept of justice in fifth principle of Pancasila. The writter uses the relevancy study to get the convergency idea between two different ideas of justice. This essay will explore both concept of justice by St. Thomas Aquinas and Pancasila perspective. There are at least some convergency ideas between those two. But the pressure point is the concept of bonum commune. Pancasila as the Philosophische Grondslag of Indonesia as like as St. Thomas Aquinas’ idea of justice emphasizes the common good (bonum commune) as the very end of Indonesia nation. Reflecting on these convergency ideas, we can find some relevant discourses concerning justice in socio-political life of Indonesian people, i.e: law, politic, and religion. In the end of this essay, the writer gives a critical thought to the tendency of the liberalism pathology in social life

Abstract

In his path of thinking, particularly from the 1930s onwards, Martin Heidegger firmly believed that Sein reveals itself, when human being, whom he termed as Dasein, awakened from his blindness of common sense and struggle for grasps his own authenticity. In this paper I examine Heidegger’s destruction of the work of art as a site of strife between art and politics in his text, Der Ursprung des Kunstwerkes. Heidegger’s position is complex: on the one hand, he acknowledges that Sein is a phenomenon beyond our horizon of understanding, Sein is all about not something particular; on the other hand, he insists that Sein’s presence through art inscribed in a certain particular identity, especially German volks. In response, I argue that the identification of Sein with a particular identity such as German volks, offers the truth that the politics itself is forged and instituted in and as work of art. Some conclusions will be drawn concerning the importance of the small dimension of Heidegger’s thought on art in contemporary politics.

Abstract

The implementation of todays forest management that based on formal-scientific knowledge and technical knowledge seems to fail to protect the forest from deforestation and the environmental damage. Decolonialisation of western knowledge could give an opportunity to identify and find the knowledge and practices of indigenous people in sustainable forest management. Forest management based on the indigenous knowledge and practices is believed easy to be accepted by the indigenous community due to the knowledge and practice is known and ‘lived’ by them. The Atoni Pah Meto from West Timor has their own customary law in forest management that is knows as Bunuk. In the installation of Bunuk, there is a concencus among the community members to protect and preserve the forest through the vow to the supreme one, the ruler of the earth and the ancestors, thus, bunuk is becoming a le’u (sacred). Thus, the Atoni Meto will not break the bunuk due to the secredness. Adapting the bunuk to the modern forest management in the Atoni Meto areas could be one of the best options in protecting and preserving the forest.
