Abstract

The tool pin rotational speed and welding speed affect the electrical conductivity value of the Al-Cu connection. Al-Cu connection is a butt joint resulting from the friction stir welding (FSW) process. The material used is Al 6061 and pure copper. The friction stir welding (FSW) process uses a pin tool with a pin design that integrates with the pin tool and a three-degree angle. The purpose of this study was to determine the electrical conductivity value of the Al-Cu connection with the friction stir welding (FSW) process at the butt joint connection. The variables used in this study were pin tool rotation speeds of 800, 1000, and 1250 RPM and welding speeds of 10, 12.5, and 16 mm/min. Tests conducted in this study were macro structure testing, measurement of resistance values,  and microhardness testing. Besides, an analysis of heat input and welding time is needed for each variable. The results of macro and XRD structure test results show that in the aluminum and copper connection, there are intermetallic compounds in the form of AlCu and Al2Cu. The results of the analysis state that the welding results with a welding speed of 12.5 mm/min are the most optimum variables. The welding process results in conductivity values ranging from 27.173 mΩ-1mm-2 and 28.09 mΩ-1mm-2. The presence of intermetallic compounds affects the conductivity value of the connection.

Abstract

The growing trend today is the exclusive breast milk given to the baby until the baby has a sufficient age. This is certainly not too problematic for housewives who most of the time are at home, so it can menyusi baby without interference. But this is different from career women who have babies and want to provide exclusive breast milk, a great distance between home and workplace and time constraints become a barrier factor that makes exclusive breast milk becomes very difficult given career woman to her child. Cooler box can keep asi temperature remain in cold condition prevent damage of breast milk content. Inside the cooler box put ice gel to keep the temperature cool. The ice gel can keep the temperature cool for 3-4 hours. Another problem is the hygiene of the cooler box and storage container from the breast milk. Not infrequently the cooler box into a source of bacteria that can spread to the breast milk contained in the cooler box, this can be caused moisture or from the hands that are not sterile. This is because in the process of pumping and transfer into the cooler box is still using the manual by hand. The researcher will design a cooler box build by using thermoelectric as cooling from cooler box and have water sterilizer, which is useful to decrease the amount of bacteria by using uv light. Low levels of bacteria will make the cooler box becomes more hygienic as a storage area when it will be shipped.

Abstract

Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, which are often referred to as SMEs in the field of food processing in Yogyakarta, are numerous one of which is the cassava processing SMEs in Gunungkidul Regency. Cassava is an agricultural commodity that is a typical local product of Special District of Yogyakarta, especially in Gunungkidul Regency. SMEs are proven as a support of the national economy during the global economic crisis, for that it must be considered and developed thoughtfully. Workers at cassava processing SMEs often experience several complaints. This study aims to analyze the claims and needs of workers in cassava processing SMEs, then made a cassava chopper redesign tool that meets the ergonomic aspects and increases the productivity of these cassava processing SMEs. Analysis of worker complaints is done by distributing questionnaires about the comfort level of the work process. It is subsequently translated into the redesign of cassava chopper tools in the form of computer design drawings. After that, the process of making the redesign of machines and testing productivity. The driving motor used is an electric motor 1 PK. Based on the analysis of complaints and the needs of workers in cassava processing SMEs, it was found that the correlation between the needs of workers and the value of technical characteristics with the results obtained was 73.95. While the results of experiments that have been carried out on cassava chopper machines that have been carried out in redesign and construction that meet ergonomic aspects or comfort levels have a productivity level of 40 kgs/hour.

Abstract

In the air conditioning system, hot water boilers are used for the purpose of room heating and reheating processes. In tropical countries, the function of space heating is carried out for process rooms, while the function of hot water for the reheating process is widely used. In this case, the hot water produced by the boiler is used for the reheating process in the Air Handling Unit (AHU). In the process of energy conservation, to reduce the use of energy in boiler systems, especially in air conditioning systems to make it more efficient, it is necessary to take steps to save energy along with the evaluation process of energy use, identify opportunities for energy savings, and recommendations for increasing efficiency in energy use. This study aims to evaluate the boiler system to ensure that the design of the boiler system can work and produce planned air conditioning, as well as assess energy-saving opportunities. Boiler system performance testing is done by setting various variations in the temperature of the hot water output, which is 50 oC, 60 oC, 70 oC, and 80 oC. Testing is done by looking at how long it takes to reach the set temperature. After that, each increase in temperature is calculated as the resulting efficiency. The average combustion energy consumption in the boiler is 50.23 kJ/s. The average energy transferred to hot water is 39.82 kJ/s. Overall the highest efficiency of the boiler system is achieved at a set temperature of 80 oC, which is 71.5 %.

Abstract

Compost can occur by itself through natural processes, but the process takes a long time. The process of organic materials such as grass into compost can be accelerated by the process of being chopped into small pieces first, then mixed with microorganisms. The process of cutting or chopping grass will be faster if done with a chopper machine. The size of the grass's chops significantly affects the composting process. The smaller of the chops, the composting process will be faster because decomposing bacteria touch the surface area. The research aims to study the effect of the inclination and the number of chopper blades on the grass chopper machine's performance. One component that affects the results of a chopper is a blade. The initial stage of this study is to build a prototype chopper with blades made from high-speed steel (HSS). The process of data collection is based on the different blade inclinations, i.e., 0o, 5o, and 10o to the horizontal axis, and the different number of blades, i.e., 2, 3, and 4 with 3,339 rpm motor rotation. The chopping capacity of the machine is measured based on the weight and length of the chops. The results of testing with the same blade inclination and the different number of blades show that with four blades, the weight of the chops is greater, and the percentage of chops with lengths > 1.5 cm is lower. This happens because the frequency of cutting is greater. While the same number of blades, but with different inclination, the weight and percentage of chops with lengths > 1.5 cm tend to be similar due to changes in the cutting platform.

Abstract

Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) is a biomedical polymer applied for orthopedic as hip, knee, ankle and lumbar disc implants. The use of this material is common as a joint component paired with metallic biomaterials such as 316L stainless steel (SS 316L), cobalt chrome alloy (CoCr) dan titanium. This application has a wear problem. UHMWPE implants are commonly made with machining processes, i.e. lathe and milling. The effect of machining is the surface roughness of implant products. Polymer highly elastic in which would induce the deformation of surface asperities during loading and unloading. This phenomenon is determined with a parameter called elastic recovery. The magnitude of elastic recovery relates to the wear of the polymer. This research numerically investigated the effect of metallic biomaterial types on the UHMWPE elastic recoveries. Those metals are CoCr, SS 316L, and titanium. Two-dimensional surface asperity models were loaded with physiological gait loads of hip and knee. Results from computational works showed an insignificant difference of UHMWPE elastic recoveries penetrated by the studied metals. Elastic recovery due to SS 316L with knee gait load is 55.19%, equal to CoCr while other results due to titanium are slightly higher, 55.224%. The difference for all metals is only 0.06 %. Contact pressures are also equal, 38.96 MPa (CoCr), 38.98 MPa (316L and titanium).
