Abstract

This study aimed to determine the optimum stocking density that supported optimization of water quality and production of white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) ponds. This study was conducted in 2 different cycles, namely cycles 14 and 15 and with different shrimp stocking densities in each cycle, namely 94 and 150 shrimp/m2. Each cycle and stocking density was represented by 2 ponds, namely ponds B5 and B6. Experimental animals used were white shrimp post-larvae stadia 9-10 (PL 9-10) with a size of 9-12 mm. Experimental parameters observed included water quality parameters (brightness, salinity, temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, alkalinity, ammonium, and nitrite) and production performance (average body weight, average daily growth, biomass, feed conversion ratio, survival rate, and feed intake). Water quality of rearing medium reached the optimum value at a stocking density of 94 shrimp/m2. This was indicated by higher dissolved oxygen (4.0-5.3 mg/l) and lower ammonium (0.5-3.0 mg/l) compared to rearing ponds with a stocking density of 150 shrimp/m2 (4 0.0-5.0 mg/l; 1.0-3.0 mg/l). A stocking density of 94 shrimp/m2 showed a higher production performance than a stocking density of 150 shrimp/m2. This was indicated by the higher average body weight, average daily growth, and SR (18.20-19.77 g/shrimp; 0.30-0.48 g/day; 80.60-80.90%) and the lower FCR (1.11-1.33) at stocking density of 94 shrimp/m2 compared to 150 shrimp/m2 (17.18-17.40 g/shrimp; 0.45-0.50 g/day; 73, 92-78.32%; 1.64-1.75). The results of this study indicated that stocking density could affect water quality and shrimp production performance. The optimum shrimp stocking density in this study was 94 shrimp/m2.

Abstract

Ectoparasite infection has been known as one of the obstacles in crab cultivated. One of best solution to resolves this problem is use an inventory of ectoparasites in cultivated commodities. This study aims to identify the type, intensity level and prevalence of ectoparasite infection in mangrove crabs cultured in Gampong Blang Village, Banda Aceh City. The study was conducted from February to March 2022. A total of 20 samples of mud crab were collected from cultivators in Gampong Blang Village. Furthermore, ectoparasites were observed on the external organs of the samples under microscope. The results showed that two types of ectoparasites were found in the samples, namely Octolasmis sp. and Tricodina sp. The highest prevalence and intensity of ectoparasites was Octolasmis sp. with a prevalence value of 75% and an intensity of 3.67 ind/head. Water quality parameters measured during sample collection were temperature 32.6oC, pH 7.3, salinity 25.6 ppt and dissolved oxygen (DO) 5.2 mg/L.

Abstract

Natural feed is one of the inputs that is needed during the rearing phase of fish larvae, especially when the york content has been completely absorbed by the fish's body. There are many types of natural food commonly used by marine fish hatcheries, both phytoplankton and zooplankton. Rotifera (Brachionus rotundiformis) is one of the zooplankton that can be used as natural food for fish larvae. This study aims to determine the effect of fermented tuna and rag roti on the growth performance of rotifers. This research was conducted in November - December 2021 at the Fish Seed Center (BBIP) Busung Indah, Simeulue Regency. The study was conducted experimentally using a completely randomized design (RAL) with four treatment levels and three repetitions. The results showed that different fermented tuna and baker's yeast on culture media had a significant effect on population density and growth rate of Rotifera significantly (P<0.05). Treatment (P4) 8 g of fermented fish added yeast 0.60 g was significantly different from the control treatment (P0), treatment (P1), treatment (P2), but not significantly different from the treatment (P3) tuna 8 g added bread yeast 0.45 g. The results of this study showed that the administration of fermented tuna and baker's yeast at a dose of 8 g and baker's yeast 0.60 g had a positive impact on the growth performance of rotifers, with an average of 196 ind/mL/day.
