Abstract

The Effect of fertilizer to citronella productionIn supporting the development of cit-ronella crops in Indonesia, so the increasing of crop productivities must be done. Fer-tilizing of the organic fertilizer is given to the crops is hoped to increase the fresh leaves production and high oil yield of citronella crops. The research of fertilizing effects of citronella production was concucted in the experimental garden in Laing, Solok, at 0.90 hectare areas. The location is 450 metres above the sea level with Red Yellow Podzolic of  the soil type. The reasearch was studied since January to December 2005. The expe-rimental design is Randomized Block Design with 5 treatments and 9 replications was used, those are whitout fertilizing, 0.50 kg lime/clump/6 month, 2.00 kg manure/clump/6 month, 0.50 kg compost/clump/6 month, and 2.00 kg manure plus 0.50 kg lime/clump/6 month. The result shows that fertilizing is given significant effect in the second and third harvest. The treatment of 2 kg manure plus 0.50 kg lime per 6 month produces the growth, fresh leaf production, and oil production of citronella which are the hig-hest. Up to the third harvest, manure plus lime can to increase the production of fresh leaf as big as 63.75% and oil production of citronella 36.20%. The content and quality of citronella oil which are produced, is the best and it is above the standard quality of Indo-nesian export.

Abstract

The Enterprise Status of Essential Oil  and The Factors of Post Harvest Technology That Caused Its The Low of Oil RendementIn generally, essential crops were cul-tivated by farmer with limited of capital, large area and using a simple destilation, with the result that quality and rendement still lower. The research aimed to known  status of  essential oil enterprise and the factors that caused its rende-ment of oil still low. The research was conducted on April - July 2004 in 7 Provinces of producti-on centra of  essential oil with make use of  case study methods. The result indicated that conditi-on of destilation in 7 Provinces in generally still used the simple processing technology, which a kettle of  its destilation made from waste drum or iron plate, except in Province of Banten, West Java, and Central Java have already make use of the good technology of destilation (patchouly and cananga). The factors that caused the low of oil rendement and quality are materials contruc-tion of destilation tools, preparations of raw materials and destilation process.

Abstract

Characteristics of Saveral Essential Oils of Zingiberaceae Family Plant in TradeThe essential oils of zingiberaceae such as cardamom oil, ginger oil and cur-cuma oil used in medicin, parfum, food and beverage industries and aromatheraphy. Cardamom oil is distilled of E. Cardamo-mum, produced in India and Sri Langka. Ginger oil (G. officinale) comes from Cina and India. Meanwhile curcuma oil (C. Xan-thorrhiza) is still used in domestic and limi-ted scale. The identification of characteristic of cardamom oil, ginger oil and curcuma oil originated from West Java, Central Java, Lampung and some eksporters was conduc-ted in the Post harvest technology labora-tory, Research Institute for Spice and Med-icinal Crops. The essential oils distilled using water and steam distillation methode. Oils obtained were analyzed to get the oil characteristics which discribed in specific gravity, refractive index, optical rotation, solubility in ethanol, acid number and ester number. The characteristics of those essen-tial oils was compared to the Inetrnational Standard. The result showed that the oil cha-racteristics of A. cardamomum and E. Car-damomum is very different. But the oil cha-racteristics  of E. Cardamomum from West Java and Indonesian exporter is the same to the international standard specification. Characteristics of ginger oil from Central Java, Lampung and Indonesian exporter is not agree with international standard espe-cially in optical rotation specification.
