The test of hypothesis showed that sig. 2 tailed (p) was 0.001 while alpha (α) was 0.005 (0.001 < 0.005). Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of Fine Art Activity can affect students’ speaking ability of seventh grade at SMP Negeri 13 South Tangerang.

Abstract

This paper discusses the need for education in ‘Information Literacy in Times of Disaster’ in Japanese language education for non-native speakers of Japanese who are staying in Japan. ‘Information Literacy in Times of Disaster’ refers to the ability to obtain necessary information and transmit it as appropriate in the circumstances when a major natural disaster occurs, such as an earthquake. After the April 2016 Kumamoto earthquake, the author investigated the behavior of international students when the earthquake occurred, the criteria for their decisions, their means of collecting information and other matters. The results revealed the issue that international students’ behavior frequently relied on others’ words and they could not make decisionsindependently. The factors causing these issues include: (1) lack of knowledge and understanding of Japanese language and Japanese society; (2) psychological distance from information in Japanese; and (3) capacity to analyze information. This report proposes the development of methods of teaching ‘Information Literacy in Times of Disaster’ to resolve these issues and discusses how the development of these teaching methods will contribute to furthering information literacy education in Japanese languageeducation.

Abstract

This study sheds lights on whether Stimulated Recall (SR) as data collection method can gain accurate information if the recall is not conducted immediately after the task is completed. This study emerges from a research conducted previously about teacher decision making regarding their language use which is a dissertation writing and is not published yet. This paper is to investigate whether it is applicable to recall thought processes of teacher interactive decision making. This study applies interpretative method which uses documents of classroom observation video transcription and post observation interview transcription as data. The result is it is beneficial to use SR as data collection method since it can gain information accurately to recall the thought processes of teacher interactive decision making. It can work well to collect the data if SR is conducted based on the recommendations proposed by Gass and Mackay (2000) which are time, strong stimulus, good training for the research participants, and consistency with research questions.

Abstract

This article reports an experiment to pursue appropriate observation method on fictional entities inside popular culture products from Japan: two dimensional characters, fictional characters in a movie. Previous research showed how Indonesian popular culture producers being empowered in production, as fictional entities involved, such as “Hatsune Miku” (HM), a virtual singer persona. This article focused on older cases where media Japan travelled to Indonesia. Back in 1989, a TV action serial "Kamen Rider Black/ Ksatria Baja Hitam" (KRB/KBH) from Japan, was broadcasted by Indonesian local television station RCTI, and dubbed in Indonesian language. The experiment on finding appropriate observation method is conducted by constructing frameworks, imagined as ‘dissecting’ fictional entities into smaller observable parts. The purpose of this paper is to map methods to examine the role of non-human entities under transnational media by evaluating through early stage experiment.

Abstract

Implementing blended learning strategy in higher education requires a learning management system (LMS) that is stable, well-proven, and accessible by both teachers and students alike. Google Classroom is an LMS that meets the aforementioned criteria and it has a steady growing acceptance because of its cross-platform presence, stability, and ease-of-use. Though Classroom has gained many users in K-12 environment, it has not gained the same progress in higher education. To investigate whether Classroom can bring positive impact in a higher education course, a research was conducted by utilizing Classroom as an LMS to support blended learning strategy in a Pengantar Linguistik Umum class for a semester. Research participants’ were university students who enrolled in PLU class. Then, the course was conducted by combining face-to-face meeting and online learning facilitated by Google Classroom. Class teacher surveyed students’ knowledge and perceptions about blended learning at the beginning of the course and at the end of semester to investigate their perceptions of using LMS in blended learning environment. The Classroom was used to share video podcasts, online quizzes, and assignments. This research showed that Classroom was a satisfying LMS for blended learning in PLU course because of its features, user-friendliness, and appropriateness in higher education program.
