Abstract

Post-harvest handling of rice, especially in the rainy season, often experiences problems due to changes in weather, so that it takes a long time. In addition, conventional drying by drying using sunlight often causes the grain to become wet, moist, and some even grow. This causes the rice to break during milling so that it does not meet the quality standards of rice and the price decreases. If this process is disrupted, the level of stability of rice productivity and the supply of rice to the community will be delayed, which in turn will disrupt food security. A rice dryer with UV (Ultra Violet) Dryer technology can be a solution that can be used during the rainy and dry seasons. This tool is a dryer building measuring 10 m x 21 m, 3 m high, with a tool capacity of 10 tons, polycarbonate roof, galvanized pipe frame, and cast floor. The method of implementing PTDM activities, is socialization activities, design, preparation of materials, labor, implementation of assembly, and construction. The result of the socialization activity, is the application of dryer technology, really helps farmers in post-harvest handling, especially in the rainy season. It is hoped that the existence of this UV Dryer rice dryer can help post-harvest handling of rice and become a model for the community

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has affected various aspects of people's lives, including increasing food insecurity. Efforts to improve community food security can be carried out not only through the provision of physical food, but also through increasing people's income. One of the community groups that are quite vulnerable to experiencing food insecurity is the community group in RT 05 Kamundu Village, Merauke Regency. Community members in Kamundu Village are very dependent on fishing and collecting plant products. This is partly due to the lack of public knowledge about farming or raising fish, due to limited public access to the internet or books, which are the main sources of information. One simple technology that can be used to improve people's food security is Fish Cultivation in Buckets (Budikdamber) plus Aquaponics. This fish and vegetable polyculture system has the advantage of not requiring additional equipment such as pumps and filters. This system is very simple so that it is easily adopted by the community. In this service program, we train and assist indigenous Papuans in RT 05, Kamundu Village to carry out Budikdamber plus Aquaponics. This service activity includes training on making Budikdamber plus aquaponics and mentoring. This training combines lecture and demonstration methods. The result of this Community Partnership Service program is that the community is able to use and continue the 4 existing Budikdamber plus Aquaponics technology packages and add these technology packages independently. Another outcome is the availability of vegetables and fish produced by Budikdamber plus Aquaponics that can be consumed or sold by the community, thereby increasing food security.

Abstract

Merauke Regency is an area where most of the people work as farmers. Rice commodity is the most widely cultivated commodity by farmers besides vegetables and fruits. Farmers' cultivation practices are still using inorganic/chemical fertilizers to meet nutrient needs. The very high demand for inorganic fertilizers is not followed by their timely availability whenever needed, besides that the market price is quite expensive so that production costs increase. This encourages the use of crop residues in the form of husks as raw material for making compost and livestock manure. Burning rice husks produces husk charcoal containing various nutrients as well as cow dung. The purpose of this community service activity is to provide training on making compost from a mixture of charcoal husks, bran, cow dung and EM-4 to farming communities, village officials, Gapoktan, high school and agricultural vocational high school students. This activity was carried out in stages starting from field observations, provision of materials, training/practice on making compost in Anumbob Village, monitoring and teaching how to pack, label and apply compost to the soil. The combination of rice husk charcoal and cow dung as raw material for compost is able to maintain soil moisture and provide nutrients, improve soil conditions on land with low availability of nutrients and water. In addition, we hope that with this training, agricultural waste that was previously not used can have added value, especially by turning it into compost which is useful for reducing agricultural waste, fertility of agricultural land, and ensuring the sustainability of agriculture in the future.
