Abstract

Learning activities have a close relation with progress, achievement or even failure. Attribution is the clarifications and reasons that individuals give for advance, accomplishment, and indeed disappointment towards something they have experienced, especially in their language learning. This study aims to investigate the students’ attributions on their English-reading skill especially in reading aviation text. Thus, we know the progress, the achievement and also the failure of the learning activity in students’ reading skill. The participants of the study were sixty-nine students who took Bahasa Inggris Teknik II class. Open-ended questionnaire and interview were used as the instruments to collect the data. The results showed that interest was the major attributions for doing well and ability was the major factor for not doing well.

Abstract

This paper introduces the multisensory approach as a way of teaching that promotes engagement by involving the learners’ senses of sight, hearing, touch, and physical movement. This paper aims to describe the teachers’ role in applying multisensory approach in Primary English Home-based learning, find the benefits and challenges in applying multisensory approach, and provide strategies to overcome the challenges. This study uses qualitative descriptive as the research method and the data was taken from the researcher’s reflections, lesson plans, observation reports and mentor’s feedback. This study shows that multisensory approach positively promoted engagement in primary English home-based learning. Several classroom activities that can be used in applying multisensory approach are Total Physical Response, color codes, storytelling, art & craft, and interactive PowerPoint. The challenges occurred from technicalities and monitoring the students’ behavior. Therefore, parents’ involvement is highly required to monitor students’ behavior in home-based learning process. For the next researcher, it is suggested to find ways to maximize home-based learning by maintaining social interaction among students.

Abstract

AbstractGender inequality issues are issues that are still often found in daily life. Evidently, the issues do not only happen in the action of real-life but previous researches have also discovered that gender inequality does exist in textbooks in the form of how genders are being represented unequally. With this gender representations issue emerging, this research aims to identify and analyze the gender representations in the ELT textbook titled “Bahasa Inggris Untuk SMA/MA/SMK/MAK Kelas X”. It is important to know if the genders are being represented equally because the books which exclude one or more gender can affect its readers and or users. To reach the goal stated this research used a qualitative method with a content analysis approach. The analysis of the data which was taken both from the texts as well as from the illustrations shows that there are many characteristics that only represent a specific gender and not the others. From the occupational activities that are only explored often by men, to domestic items that are attached to women. It can be concluded that the BI textbook has not represented genders equally. Some genders are stillexcluded in several activities, attributes, and designations.

Abstract

Amid Covid-19 pandemic, emergency remote teaching has been done through online learning. Recent research has found some challenges and opportunities, including the debate analyzing the effectiveness of EFL online teaching and learning processes. However, little is known about the types of learning strategies that suit students' engagement with online learning. The investigation between them illustrates an emerging paradigm for English learning in an online setting, where learning takes place in authentic environments with immersive experiences in order to achieve meaningful learning. This early examination reveals assessments on their natures and applications in connection to English success with the goal of distributing such a revolutionary arena. The findings are revealed in the conclusions in the form of model hypothesis of causal relationship may accordingly help other researchers to conduct further research in exploring the prediction of learning strategies provided in this paper when dealing with enhancing EFL teaching method during this emergency remote teaching and learning
