Abstract

This research aimed at mapping the reading interest of the faculty of teacher training and education students. This profiling was considered important as the result can be used as the basis for the curriculum developers in improving students’ reading skill.  This research was conducted by using descriptive quantitative method. The location was at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education University of Bengkulu involving random sample. The data was collected by using a test and a survey. The result shows that: first, the reading interest of the students is categorized as low. Second, the students seldom make use of their time either for reading or visiting the library. Third, the most preferred books to read are popular books (politics, training, education, and motivation books), while scientific textbooks are less favored. Fourth, students only use less than one hour a day for reading.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui peningkatan kemampuan bercerita menggunakan model pembelajaran kooperatif bercerita berpasangan (Paired Storytelling) pada siswa kelas VII-A SMP Negeri 1 Karang Tinggi Kabupaten Bengkulu Tengah. Penelitian ini merupakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK). Data dalam penelitian ini adalah nilai tes uji kerja bercerita yang dilakukan Siswa Kelas VII-A SMP Negeri 1 Karang Tinggi sedangkan sumber datanya ada Siswa Kelas VII-A SMP Negeri 1 Karang Tinggi. Pengolahan dan interpretasi data merupakan langkah penting dalam PTK. Menganalisis data adalah suatu proses mengolah dan menginterpretasi data dengan tujuan untuk mendudukkan berbagai informasi sesuai dengan fungsinya sehingga memiliki makna dan arti yang jelas sesuai dengan tujuan penelitian. Untuk menghitung prosentase peningkatan prestasi belajar siswa pada siklus I, II, maupun III Kemudian data-data yang diperoleh dari penelitian baik melalui pengamatan, tes atau menggunakan metode yang lain kemudian diolah dengan analisis deskriptif untuk menggambarkan keadaan peningkatan pencapaian indikator keberhasilan tiap siklus dan untuk menggambarkan keberhasilan pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia materi cara menceritakan pengalaman yang mengesankan dan implementasinya di kelas VII-A SMP Negeri 1 Karang Tinggi setelah menggunakan model cooperativelearning dengan metode bercerita berpasangan (paired storytelling). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terjadi peningkatan kemampuan bercerita menggunakan model pembelajaran kooperatif bercerita berpasangan (Paired Storytelling) pada siswa kelas VII-A SMP Negeri 1 Karang Tinggi kabupaten Bengkulu Tengah setelah diterapkan penggunaan model pembelajaran kooperatif bercerita berpasangan. Hal ini dapat dibuktikan dengan dengan perolehan nilai rata-rata kelas pada siklus I 66,26 yang masuk pada kategori cukup, meningkat menjadi 73,33 pada siklus II yang masuk pada kategori baik, meningkat lagi menjadi 77,60 di siklus III masuk pada kategori baik. Berdasarkan analisis data dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan model pembelajaran kooperatif bercerita berpasangan (Paired Storytelling) dapat meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam pembelajaran bercerita.Agar dapat meningkatkan profesionalisme maupun kualitas pembelajaran yang dilakukan melalui PTK, hendaknya kepala sekolah untuk memotivasi guru agar senantiasa meningkatkan kemampuan dan kinerjanya secara profesional untuk mengembangkan dirinya dengan melakukan pembaharuan dalam bidang pendidikan maupun pengajaran misalnya melakukan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) atau dengan mengikuti beberapa forum ilmiah seperti seminar dan diskusi ilmiah agar pengetahuan dan wawasan guru bertambah luas dan mendalam pemahamannya tentang bidang pendidikan dan pengajaran sesuai dengan profesi yang digelutinya. Abstract

The purposeof this studyto describecomprehensivelythe increase in the Ability to Write Text Fabel with Portfolio Based Learning to Students of Class VIII SMP Negeri 1 Pondok Kelapa Bengkulu Tengah. The method usedis classroom action research. Sources of dataobtained througheighth grade studentsworksheetF.Data collection techniques inthis study isthe testing techniquesandnontes(observation, journals, andinterviews). This research wasconducted in three cycles. First cycleconsistedof2 meetings, the second cycleconsistsoftwosessions, andthe third cyclecomprisesone meetings. The test resultsofthis study indicate thatan increased abilityto writetextfablein students. The average value ofthe classinthe first cycle of63.6(enough) with apassing rateof 27%, increased inthe second cyclewith an averageof 70(good) with apassing rateof56.7%. Then increasedagaininthe thirdcycle, which amounted to76(excellent) with apassing ratereached86.7%.Kata Kunci: WritingTextFabel, LearningPortfolio

Abstract

This study aims to explore the relationship between emotional intelligence and English proficiency among the students of SMKN 3 Bengkulu. The students were limited to classes XI and XII. The design was correlational research. The sample included 6 classes from each level. The instrument included a questionnaire of emotional intelligence and teacher-made tests. In data analysis, descriptive and correlational calculations were employed. It was found that the students’ mean of English proficiency was in the 'high' category while the mean for emotional intelligence was in the 'moderate' category. There was no significant correlation between English proficiency and emotional intelligence for each class as well as for the overall sample. It is suggested that followup studies be performed through the use of other emotional intelligence measure and different English tests or the exploration of other populations.Kata Kunci: Emotional intelligence, English proficiency

Abstract

AbstractThis research aims to explain the literacy Ulu and the function of the manuscripts in the context of socio-cultural communication in a variety of ethnic group in Bengkulu at the beginning oh the twentieth century.  The research based on survey of the Ulu literacy regarding a various ethnic groups in Bengkulu, and on discourse and practice of selected manuscripts preserved at the State Museum of Bengkulu, RUB (Royal Netherlands University Library) Leiden, KITLV (Royal Netherlands Institute of Southeast Asia and Caribbean Studies) Leiden, the National Library of Republic Indonesia, and the manuscripts preserved as families or villages heirlooms in several villages in Bengkulu Province as well.   The results of the research shows as follows: (1) at that time the number of literate people slightly, about 1 to 200 in Serawai ethnic group, 1 to 431 in Rejang ethnic group, and less on the others; nevertheles, the Ulu literacy amongs a variety of ethnic groups in Bengkulu at that time idicate the level of functional literacy; (2) generally they also literate in Jawi and Arabic script and mastered the cultural knowledge from the origin of Jawi and Arabic script as well; (3) the literate people are able to read and understand the text well and write texts of cultural knowledge and social practices; (4) they write texts related to social status and their role in society; in such condition, the Ulu manuscripts is a medium to represent, transform, and cunstruct the cultural knowledge and social practice

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan guru bahasa Indonesia dalam menulis teks untuk siswa kelas VII SMP, mencakup 5 jenis teks, yakni teks laporan hasil observasi, teks tanggapan deskripsi, teks eksposisi, teks eksplanasi, dan teks cerita pendek. Metode penelitian yang digunakan, yakni metode deskriptif kuantitatif sederhana. Pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik tes menulis teks. Sumber data penelitian diambil pada 10 orang guru bahasa Indonesia yang mengajar siswa kelas VII SMPN di kota Curup. Analisis data menggunakan rumus rerata persentase. Hasil penelitian diperoleh bahwa kemampuan guru bahasa Indonesia dalam menulis teks untuk siswa kelas VII SMP mencapai rerata sebesar 77,45% berkategori baik. Secara khusus, berdasarkan jenis teks yang dibuat guru bahwa kemampuan menulis teks (1) laporan hasil observasi mencapai tingkat kemampuan sebesar 73,8% ketegori baik, (2) teks tanggapan deskripsi sebesar 75% termasuk kategori baik, (3) teks eksposisi mencapai sebesar 83% kategori sangat baik, (4) teks eksplanasi sebesar 68,8% kategori cukup, dan (5) teks cerita pendek sebesar 87% kategori sangat baik. Saran, untuk guru bahasa Indonesia di SMPN kota Curup, bahwa kemampuan menulis teks perlu terus ditingkatkan khususnya terkait semua jenis teks agar dapat diimplementasikan dalam proses pembelajaran secara lebih baik.Kata Kunci: Kemampuan, Guru, Menulis, Teks

Abstract

Teaching students strategies for answering questions is an important part of comprehension instruction. The failure of students in comprehending the text was caused of misunderstanding the questions and how it relates to the answer. QAR is a reading comprehension strategy applicable to use with both fiction and nonfiction texts. It is a valuable skill for all students to obtain, especially struggling readers. QAR assists students in relating prior knowledge to text information. It becomes a conscious process students actively engage in when reading texts, especially difficult reading selections. With this strategy, students become aware of the relationships between questions and answers. Students will begin to understand where the answers come from and thus are better able to answer the questions correctly. This paper reveals an alternative model for teaching reading comprehension using QAR strategy. Hopefully, it will be useful for English teachers who are training students to read and face the implementation of Curriculum 2013 at senior high schools.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mendeskripsikan penggunaan kalimat efektif laporan praktik kerja industri kelas XI SMK Negeri 2 Curup Timur. Latar belakang penelitian ini adalah ketertarikan peneliti terhadap laporan praktik kerja industri. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif. Data penelitian ini berupa ujaran tulis siswa ketika menulis laporan praktik kerja industri siswa. Sumber data berupa bagian pendahuluan laporan praktik kerja industri. Teknik analisis data dianalisis dengan membaca laporan siswa, mengidentifikasi, memberi nomor, verifikasi, dan menarik kesimpulan . Hasil penelitian laporan praktik kerja industri siswa yang diteliti terdapat 64 buah penyimpangan kalimat efektif. aspek ketepatan yakni 28 buah data, kelogisan 18 buah data, kepaduan 8 buah data, kehematan 7 buah data, dan kesatuan 1 buah data. Data tersebut memperlihatkan bahwa laporan praktik kerja industri siswa, masalah kalimat efektif belum seluruhnya diterapkan dengan benar di laporan praktik kerja industri siswa.Kata Kunci: kalimat efektif, laporan

Abstract

This paper aims at emphasizing the use of an activity-based EFL drama course as a popular technique for teaching both basic language skills (i.e. reading, writing, listening and speaking) and language areas (i.e. vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation) in our times by creating a suitable context. Drama is a powerful language teaching tool that in volves all of the students interactively all of the class period. Drama can also provide the means for connecting students’ emotions and cognition as it enables students to take risks with language and experience the connection between thought andaction. Teaching English as a foreign language in evitably in volves abalance between receptive and productive skills; here drama can effectively deal with this requirement. Through drama, a class will address, practice and integrate reading, writing, speaking and listening. Drama also fosters and maintains students’ motivation, by providing an atmosphere whichis full of fun and entertainment. Abstract

The purpose of this study to explain interest in reading , the ability to write text exposition , and the relationship between interest in reading with the ability to write text exposition Indonesian Class X MAN 2 Kota Bengkulu . This study uses descriptive correlational . The population in this study are all students of class X MAN 2 Kota Bengkulu . Samples were taken using random sampling techniques or random sample , with a sample of 36 students. Instrument data capture using documentation and questionnaires . From the research results can be described that 1 ) the average interest of the students' reading interest category with an average value of 3.09 , 2 ) the ability to write text exposition of students categorized either with a mean value rata76,2 , 3 ) there is a relationship between interest in reading the ability to write text Indonesian exposition with a correlation value of r count 0,53? r tables = 0.32 , meaning that its interpretation is rather low so that the relationship was not significant.Kata Kunci: Interests in Reading, Writing and Text Exposition
