Abstract

The economic crisis’ turbulence blows down almost all of Indonesian export commodity, included plywood. Dissolution of JMB-Apkindo (Joint Marketing Body-Association of Indonesian wood based panel) as an implementation of Letter of Intent between Indonesian Government and International Monetary Fund caused reposition of the Indonesian plywood marketing. Impacts of the dissolution of JMB are weakening of the bargaining position of Indonesian plywood market and pushing down the international price of Indonesian plywood. The large scale of illegal logging that follows reformation’s euphoria is another problem which influences supply-demand of timber products. A right strategy in the forestry sector policy especially in plywood marketing is needed to overcome the above problems.

Abstract

The history and purpose of Ecolab ling system should be understand and also the relation with ISO 9000 and ISO 14000 and then the problems of Agribusiness development on pulp and paper production con be predicted in the district otonomi system. Capacity building and educated manpower in the district level should be improved. Negative impact of ecolabel system in International Trade Should be avoided. National ecolabel institute will be more favourable then international ecolabel institute.

Abstract

Scientific knowledge faces a limitation to describe the complexity of forest ecosystem and its involved local communities. Integrating traditional and scientific knowledge is necessary to deal with this complexity. A knowledge-based system with fuzzy logic may become an alternative to complete scientific knowledge by integrating it with traditional knowledge. The paper describes how the integration can be made.

Abstract

This paper presents how the multisensor MOS-MESSR and Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) should be manipulated as tools for detecting land cover changes. Radiometric correction using image regression was recognized as useful approach to adjust pixel brightness value of MOS-MESSR. In this study, the standardized MPC showed comparable accuracy, similar to DMC method. Using this technique forest changes due to fire as well as land clearing were well recognized. Some recommendations and suggestions for improving classification accuracy of change detection using multisensor MOS-MESSR and Landsat TM were drawn up from this study.

Abstract

This paper describes the techniques for detecting forest and land fire. Of the three change detection techniques evaluated, i.e., post-classification comparison, multitemporal principal component and direct multitemporal classification, the multitemporal principal component, specifically that was derived from variance-covariance matrix (unstandardized principal component) was recognized to be suitable in detecting changes due to forest and land fires. The study found that the delta brightness, delta greenness, stable brightness and stable greenness indices derived from unstandardized multitemporal principal component analysis effectively summarized burnt-forest information. In this study, it was shown that Landsat TM provides information of totally and moderatelly burnt logged-over forest as well as burnt bush/shrub.

Abstract

The purpose of this experiment was to investigate the influence of soil compaction and water content on root development of 6 month old sengon seedling. The experiment was arranged 3 x 3 factorial experiment within a complete randomized design and 3 replications. The factor number one was soil compaction and factor number two was soil water content. The soil compaction factor consists of 3 levels, which are 1,5 g/cm3 (A1), 1,2 g/cm3 (A2), and 0,9 g/cm3 (A3) respectively, while the soil water content also consists of 3 levels, which are 60,41 % (B1), 49,64% (B2), and 42,86 % (B3) for each level. The parameters were counted which are root number, diameter, root length, biomass, surface area, and root length density. The result was that soil compaction treatment has a significant influence to root number, root length, biomass, surface area, and root length density. On the other hand the soil water content treatment on pF 2,54 until 3,5 and interaction soil compaction and water content have no influence to root number, diameter, root length, biomass, surface area, and root length density. Root number, diameter, length, biomass, surface area and root length density were increased accordingly to the age of the seedling, but the increasing of soil compaction has decreased to the number, length, root length, biomass, surface area and root length density. The secondary root was found more larger than the primary and the tertiary root in term of the root length, surface area and root length density.
