Abstract

The significance of moderation and balance across various domains has been sanctioned for millennia and deviations from midpoints of virtues, traits, qualities, and other attributes have been described as dysfunctional suggesting a nonmonotonic, U-shaped curve. Modern scholarship and lay interpretations of the virtue of humility have neglected this perspective and appear to tacitly assume that humility is an unmitigated good that leaders should develop and that more is better. Here we show, however, that what we refer to as authentic humility, is positioned at an intermediate point between negative and positive views of the self and that deviations from this center adversely impact well-being and offer a nonlinear, inverted U-shaped curve. Such an interpretation reconciles views of humility as a weakness or strength and demonstrates its positive impact on self, followers, and organizational well-being. We conclude by suggesting that humility has costs for leaders and therefore not an unmitigated good.

Abstract

This study examined emotions as predictors of subsequent buying behavior. The primary aim of this research was to investigate consumers’ experience of impulsive buying in the online shopping environment and the influence that emotions have on these experiences, focusing on fashion apparel.  Hypotheses were developed around the premise that emotions play a prominent role in everyday decisions, including an individual’s impulsive decisions and buying behavior. The study used a self-administered 10-item questionnaire to test the hypotheses.  One hundred and twenty-eight people (N=128; 55% men, 45% women) from various parts of the world, with persons aged between 18 and 34 (77.34%) most represented, completed the survey. The data revealed a strong correlation between negative emotions and impulse buying, and between low arousal of negative emotions and impulse buying. Other results and implications are discussed.

Abstract

In the United States, no two states are completely alike in how they govern their citizenry or regulate commerce within their borders. These differences may be used to examine the effects of various laws by contrasting the differences in the way each state attempts to resolve a perceived problem and the resulting outcome. The following paper examines the relationship between consumer purchasing behavior and statutory solutions enacted to combat the perceived problems of unfair and deceptive acts. The statutory solutions are Unfair and Deceptive Acts and Practices (UDAP) statutes. This paper focuses on UDAP statutes and their relationship to life insurance ownership. This paper finds that under some circumstances consumer ownership of life insurance is related to how a state chooses to protect its citizens from unscrupulous acts of persons or businesses. This article may serve as an opportunity for ethical professionals in financial services to understand how more significant levels of regulation can result in growth opportunities.

This method is explanatory research to test the hypothesis between the hypothesized variables. This study uses secondary data, namely: Export Value through the Port of Kumai, Sampit, Pulang Pisau, and Pangkalan Bun, and Economic Growth in Central Kalimantan Province during 2007-2021. The results of the Multiple Linear Regression analysis of the Semi Logarithma Model partially show that the Export Value through the Port of Loading at the Ports of Kumai and Sampit has a significant and positive influence on Economic Growth in Central Kalimantan Province. In contrast, the Export Value through the Port of Loading Pulang Pisau and Pangkalan Bun has no effect but is positive on Economic Growth in Central Kalimantan Province. However, simultaneously the export value through the loading ports at the ports of Kumai, Sampit, Pulang Pisau, and Pangkalan Bun has a significant influence on economic growth in the province of Central Kalimantan.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic appeared in China on 31 December 2019, and it spread fast in every part of the world, especially, in European countries like Italy and France, consequently, the search for a resolution to this pandemic in all these countries should also be taken into account. The current study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of European Countries based on the case fatality rate of COVID-19, The sample spans 30 countries, the analysis made recourse to Data Envelopment Analysis, the study used population density and total cases as input indicators and case fatality rate (CFR) as output indicator. The results demonstrate that of 30 countries analyzed, only 6 proved efficient. The average efficiency of inefficient countries is 0.372. Greece achieved the least efficiency rate compared to other European countries. The highest case fatality rate has been registered in Belgium, the lowest case fatality rate has been registered in Monaco. We engaged in a year-long battle with a virus that has destroyed this world, that has caused pain, loss, and frustration and that has cost so many lives.

Abstract

Crime is a serious and complex problem that affects both the social and economic development of a country. An investigation studying not only the determinants of crime but also the relationship between crime and economic phenomena such as employment, income, and immigration, is necessary. The purpose of this empirical report is to investigate the relationship between labor market conditions and economic crimes in the fifty U.S. states and the District of Columbia by building upon the economic model of rational behavior. A very intuitive hypothesis is that an agent is more likely to engage in criminal activity if there is a low level of deterrence (e.g. minimal police enforcement, absence of death penalty, etc.) and unfavorable economic conditions (e.g. high unemployment rate, low educational attainment, low GDP per capita). There are also various socioeconomic variables such as age distribution, church attendance, immigration, urbanization, and racial mix that reflect an individual’s tastes and thus influence behavior.

Abstract

The study of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, (DEIB) processes are an ever-evolving phenomenon that will continue to influence and change the world. These processes are becoming increasingly prevalent and are present in business and educational environments driven by societal demands, environmental awareness, and funding requirements. The next generation of business leaders has serious concerns about the environment they will soon inherit. Each generation has events that define them (Civil Rights Movements, Watergate, the Recession, the Clinton Administration and Y2K, the Great Recession, Global Warming and Climate Change). Today's students want to make a positive difference on Earth, unlike any generation in the past half-century. Furthermore, higher education faculty and administrators must meet the charge of effectively preparing post-secondary graduates to function in these initiatives.
