Abstract

Deixis is an utterance of meaning based on the word and phrase in the context of utterance. Deixis is divided into five categories. They are person deixis, place deixis, time deixis, discourse deixis, and social deixis. Deixis is important to be analyzed, because if we read some conversations in the movie or the other literary works, sometimes we will be confused about the meaning in that conversation. It means that deixis is the way to analyze unspeakable context. This study examines types of deixis used in Daughter of the Wolf movie. Research method which was used is qualitative. Type of study is a document analysis. The writer watched Daughter of the Wolf movie and downloaded the scripts to classify type of deixis and  the writer did analysis. Based on finding the writer found the type of deixis in Daughter of the Wolf movie, there are four categories of deixis, they are person deixis, place deixis, time deixis, and discourse deixis, and also meaning of deixis used in Daughter of the Wolf movie. The writer suggests, for the future writers who are interesting in doing similar research, this research will give contribution to comprehend the types of deixis and also this research can give inspiration and guidance for the future researchers to be more careful in doing research Keywords: Pragmatics, Deixis, Daughter of the Wolf

Abstract

This study aims to determine students' perceptions of using the Telegram Application as a tool in learning in English class and also to find out what benefits they get when using the Telegram Application. In this study, the researcher used a qualitative descriptive method.  Researchers used a questionnaire to determine the perceptions of students who were given to and interviews, namely to gain deep information about the questionnaire and to find out what benefits they got.  There were 65 students who filled out the questionnaire and 26 students who had been interviewed.  The results showed that the students' Perceptions towards the use of Telegram Application as an e-learning tool have positive perceptions.  Moreover it was also revealed that the students get benefits when studying through the Telegram Application, they get many benefits. From the results, the majority of students agree that through Telegram students can make it easier to get material, make it easier for students to understand the material, as well as the many benefits they get from learning through the Telegram Application.

Abstract

Abstract: The objective of the research was to find out the readability level of reading text in Pathway to English by Erlangga of 2017 edition for XI of Senior High School, which is generally used in the school as a written source and used by the teacher to deliver the material. This research is categorized as descriptive quantitative research and the data was collected and analyzed using Flesch Reading Ease formula. The results of this research show that 17 from 20 reading text is readable for XI of Senior High School, 2 of them is for the 13th to 16th grade, and 1 reading text is for College Graduate. Then, the average of readability score of the reading text is 62.88, which can interpret that Pathway to English for XI of Senior High School by Erlangga of 2017 edition for Kelompok Peminatan in Standard level and it’s readable for 10th to 12th grade, which can be concluded that this textbooks is readable and appropriate for XI of Senior High School.

Abstract

The purpose of the research was known no matter if use of discussion small group technique was successful in enhancing students reading comprehension of text narrative of tenth graders Sultan Agung 1 Islamic High School Semarang in the academic year 2021/2022. This study was conducted at Sultan Agung 1 Islamic High School Semarang. Located at Jalan Mataram No. 657, Wonodri, Central Java, Indonesia. This kind of the research was experimental quasi. Population in this research was tenth graders of SMA Islam Sultan Agung 1 Semarang. Sample were X MIPA 4 was control class while X MIPA 2 as the experimental class. When gathering data, researcher applied a pre-test and post-test were two tests. The outcome of this research indicated pre-test score means control group 56.42 and experimental group 59.46. Treatment completed, post-test score means control group 69.00 while the means score experimental group 78.58. The outcome indicated a significant dissimilarity both classes in post-test. The outcome analysis t-test was sig (2-tailed) .000 0.05. Thus, it may be said technique small group discussion was efficient was effective to increase readers’ comprehension in students of narrative text.

Abstract

Abstract: This study focuses on investigating the students' perceptions of the Pomodoro study technique and how the Pomodoro study technique influences students' English learning habits. Pomodoro study technique is a study technique that uses a timer to break down work into intervals. To find out the answers for research purposes, a semi-structured interview and Likert-scale questionnaire were used. After analyzing and interpreting the data the finding shows that the students perceive the Pomodoro study technique as an effective technique to improve their English learning habits. Some aspects of the students’ learning habits that have been improved are their focus, discipline, concentration, productivity, and motivation. Also, in their opinion, the rules of the Pomodoro study technique were easy to follow. The finding from the Likert-scale questionnaire shows that the Pomodoro study technique improves and influences most students' learning habits indicators. The indicators are time management, concentration, discipline, self-control, and self-improvement. Based on the questionnaire result, the range agree has the highest number of responses which is 47. The results demonstrate that the Pomodoro study technique improves the students' learning habits, so it can be said that the Pomodoro study technique is effective. The indication of the conclusion is based on the descriptive rating scale.

Abstract

Lexical collocation is one of the grammar material in English subjects that is taught by the English teacher for the eleventh grade students in the High School. Therefore, it is important to analyze the students’ level of understanding after learning the material. This research aims to classify the types of lexical collocation and to find out the students’ ability in writing dialogue text using lexical collocations. In this research, the descriptive qualitative was used as a research design. The writer did documentation as data collection technique. The participants of this research were the XI MIPA 6 students of MAN 1 Kudus in the academic year 2021/2022. The writer had analyzed 13 dialogue texts written by the students who worked in a pair. The findings show that there are seven types of lexical collocation found, those are verb with preposition + noun/pronoun (8.93%), verb + noun (19.64%), adjective + noun (35.71%), noun + verb (1.79%), noun + noun (25%), adverb + adjective (1.79%), and verb + adverb (7.14%). Moreover, the percentage of the correct lexical collocations shows that the students have excellent skills in writing dialogue text using lexical collocations.
