The development of science and technology in agriculture, has been instrumental in increasing the production of various agricultural commodities. But climate change is also uncertain world led to decreased agricultural productivity. World energy crisis resulted in higher prices of agricultural commodities due to competition between food and energy are higher. Efforts to utilize biomass (agricultural products) has started a lot of research, not only as raw material for bioenergy, but also in an attempt to exploit agro-products into valuable economic products, and realize clean production in agro-industry.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe objective of this research is to formulate the agroindustrial development strategy by integrated agroindustry with region superiority concepts. I’SWOT is an expert choice justification model which is used to engineer the structural analysis model by taking several elements of the strategic environmental factors. SWOT analysis for the strategic environmental factors has identified the significant aspect of the supporting elements, constraints and, the groups of the alternative strategy. Interpretative Structural Modelling (ISM) is used to find out the principal sub-elements of each development system. Agroindustrial stakeholders and need’s elements have been analysed to enrich the model.  Complete analysis of this research has built successfully the model of the strategic formulation for region superiority agroindustry development, considering respective limitation.Keywords : I’SWOT model, development strategy, agroindustry

Abstract

ABSTRACTSunflower oil was extracted from whole sunflower seeds using methyl ester as the solvent. Experiments were conducted in a co-rotating twin-screw extruder. The oil extraction yield was measured as function of screw configuration and solvent-to-solid (S/S) ratio. The position of the reverse screw elements affected oil extraction yield. Higher oil recovery was produced as the S/S ratio was increased. Up to 90% of the oil was removed from seeds under S/S ratio of 0.65. The methyl ester is thus a promising alternative solvent for extraction of sunflower oil.   Keywords : twin-screw extruder,  sunflower oil,  methyl ester and extraction

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis paper presents a model for development of cocodiesel agroindustry in the remote and isolated areas. Using this new model both fishermen and coconut farmers can take advantages from the development of cocodiesel agroindustry.  The price of coco-diesel will be lower than fossil diesel whereas the price of coconut will be increased.  The fisrt part of this paper discusses in details about the feasibility and techno-economical analysis of the development of cocodiesel agroindustry in a remote area, that is the district of Aceh Singkil, in the Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam Province.  Then a model for development of cocodiesel agroindustry by introducing a new approach namely “the poor helps the poor” will be presented in details. The results of this research indicate that the development of cocodiesel agroindustry using the “poor helps the poor” concept is very promising in the district of Aceh Singkil as well as for other remote areas in Indonesia.Keywords :    coconut, agroindustry, cocodiesel, farmers, fishermen, income, saving, isolated, remote area, institutional

Abstract

ABSTRACTPoly-hydroxyalkanoates (PHA) were blended in solution with Polyoxyetilene-(20)-sorbitan monolaurate (Tween20). In presence of Tween20 component, it caused some polymer interaction between PHA and Tween20 component. Shifting of density, tensile strength and elongation at break was observed for PHA/Tween20 blend. Improvement in elongation at break was drastic in case of PHA blend with 5% Tween20. The addition of Tween20 can reduce PHA melting point and degree of crystallinity. The amount of crystalline was lower for PHA/Tween20 blend than PHA without Tween20 component. FTIR analysis proved that the alteration of PHA characteristic was caused by hydrogen bonding between PHA and Tween20 molecules. The highest blending performance based on its flexibility was showed by PHA blend with 5% Tween20.Keywords : Bioplastic, polyhydroxyalkanoates, Ralstonia eutropha, Tween20

Abstract

ABSTRACTMethane (CH4) is the second most important greenhouse gas after carbon dioxide. An important source of CH4 generation is anaerobic decomposition of organic municipal solid wastes (MSW) in landfill sites.  Some control measures are in need to be undertaken, and composting being one of them. The objectives of this research work were to quantify potential contribution of MSW composting in reducing greenhouse gas emission and to illustrate the extent of composting contribution to the emission reduction (ER). Survey was conducted in the Indonesian highly urbanized region of Jabotabek (Jakarta, Bogor, Tangerang, and Bekasi), and simulation was carried out to determine the value of ER at different scenarios. The mass balance approach is the main method for analyzing the potential reduction of the CH4 emission.  The study indicated that app. 5 million tons of MSW is generated annually in the study area.  Assuming the average gas production rate of 235 L CH4/kg MSW applies and 80% of the MSW is disposed off in the landfill sites, an amount of 0.5 million tons of CH4 is generated in the study area annually. By producing one ton of compost from MSW, the CH4 emission could be therefore reduced by 0.2 to 0.3 tons. Abstract

ABSTRACTThe objective of this research was to study the effect of L. acidophillus concentration on fermented soymilk quality. The experiment used a completely random design with L. acidophillus concentration as a treatment. Three levels of L. acidophillus concentration as probiotic bacteria, i.e.: 1, 2, and 3 % (w/w) were used in this research as addition of yoghurt bacterial culture (S. thermophilus and L. bulgaricus). A control is done for yoghurt without L. acidophilus addition. The result showed that the level of L. acidophillus concentration has a significant effect on pH, lactic acid content and sensory analysis (overall performance acceptability). The best treatment is 3% of L. acidophillus with the product properties of pH 4,45, lactic acid content 0,75%, solid content 11,20% and water content 88,80%.Keywords : probiotics, synbiotics, soymilk and L. Abstract

ABSTRACTThe fouling resistance at cross flow velocity 2,97, 3,47 and 3,97 m s-1was 0,1312; 0,1741 and 0,1758 kPa m2 h l- 1 respectively.  It is not influenced by cross flow velocity and  has 2-3 times greater than internal membrane resistance. Concentration polarization resistance at range cross flow velocity 2,97 to 3,97 m s-1  was 0,4030 to 0,9314 kPa m2 h l-1. Concentration polarization resistance is influenced by cross flow velocity, where at high cross flow velocity the concentration polarization can be reduced.  At low transmembrane pressure, total resistance is dominated by fouling resistance but at high transmembrane pressure it is dominated by concentration polarization resistance.   Behavior of flux during carrageenan purification can be described finely by resistance in series model.Keywords :  carrageenan, concentration polarization, fouling, microfiltration

Abstract

ABSTRACT    This paper presents the dropping mass impact method to study bruise resistance and minimum absorbed energy to cause bruising on oil palm  fruit, their variation values due to the differences of fruit fractions and transport delay time to palm oil processing unit. The result of the experiment indicated that the bruise volume correlated linearly with the absorbed energy produced by impact. The bruise resistance of freshly harvested fruits varied from (1.727 J/mm3) to (0.511 J/mm3) and the riper the fruit was the lower the value of bruise resistance. The bruise resistance decreased with the progress of transport delay time. The minimum absorbed energy of freshly harvested fruits ranged from 0.04 J for to 0.029 J. Generally the values of minimum absorbed energy decreased during 2 days transport delay time and then increased for all fruits except the very ripe fruit.Keywords : bruise resistance, palm fruit, transport delay time
