This article focuses on the meaning of Nu'mÄn ibn ḤayyÅ«n for the words al-safinah and al-fulk in the AsÄs al-Ta'wil book. It also explains, using Gadamer's hermeneutical theory, the way Nu'man's interpretation on safÄ«nah and fulk appears and how its historical relevance in Nu'mÄn's life. Nu'mÄn is a ta'wÄ«l expert from the SyÄ«'ah IsmÄ'Ä«liyyah group who has produced many scientific works. The AsÄs al-Ta'wÄ«l, contains Nu'man's interpretation of the stories of the prophets, which are the philosophical, spiritual and 'essence' of the al-Qur'an. The academic problem of this research originated from Nu'mÄn's representation of the word safÄ«nah in Q.S. 29:15 concerning the ark of the Prophet Nūḥ. He interprets Safinah as proselityzing science / truth. Da'wah al-ḥaq is like a boat swinging over the ocean of knowledge. In his interpretation, there is a bias of ShÄ«'ah ideology which is only carried out by Nu'mÄn, not other Shi'ite scholars. This study uses a hermeneutical approach with Gadamer's theory. This theory is used to explore the internal and extrenal aspects of the text that influence the results of Nu'mÄn Ibn ḤayyÅ«n's representations.

Ahmad Rafiq is well-known as a Living Qur'an expert in Indonesia, in fact he is referred to as one of the main initiators. However, in the course of the study of Living Qur'an, none of Ahmad Rafiq's works became references in Living Qur'an's literature, including the Living Qur'an ontology book and Hadith from UIN Sunan Kalijaga (2007) and Ubaydi's book (2019) ). Whereas Ahmad Rafiq's Living Qur'an idea was seen in his work in 2004. Therefore, this article aims to discuss what and how Ahmad Rafiq's Living Qur'an perspective, here will also position the Living Qur'an between text studies and sociology-anthropology. Through descriptive-analytical-interpretative analysis, this article concludes that the phenomenon of Living Qur'an has existed since the era of the Prophet, this phenomenon can be found throughout the development of Muslims from time to time, both in the initial environment of the emergence of the Qur’an (Arabic) let alone outside, Indonesia for example. Ahmad Rafiq himself emphasized the reading of transmission and transformation in the study of the Living Qur'an, which contains synchronous reception values in diachronic reception form from time to time. From here, Living Qur’an is in the position of studying text and sociology-anthropology at the same time.

This paper intends to explain several reasons for misinterpretation. The dynamics of interpretation that occurred in the first century of the emergence of Islam occurred in at least three phases: the Prophet Muhammad, the companions, and the tabi'in. The prophet's interpretation of the Qur'anic verses was not carried out thoroughly, thus leaving some empty space for the next generation, namely the companions to understand and interpret verses that were not explained by the prophet. In subsequent periods, interpretation tended to ideology as was done by the Khawarij and al-Zamakhsyari groups in al-KasysyÄf's interpretation. First, the emergence of the interpretation of the Khawarij ideology (the group that left the ranks of 'Ali) stems from the giving of the stigma of being kafir for the perpetrators of grave sins. As a consequence they deny the existence of intercession for perpetrators of grave sins based on the verses of the al-Qur'an. Second, the interpretation of al-Zamakhsyari transparently represents Mu'tazilah in certain cases, especially verses that are theological in nature.

This study seeks to explain the integration of interpretations (tafsīr) and hermeneutics in understanding the Qur'an, even though the possibility of the integration is still being debated among Muslims. Some Islamic scholars reject it absolutely, some of them accept it absolutely and others accept it with certain limits (muqayyad). The author sees that the hermeneutic perspective should not be avoided in the study of interpretation of the Qur'an, so that the study of interpretation becomes more philosophical, even though both have slightly different characteristics. The science of interpretation (‘ilm tafsīr) grows and develops in the treasures of Islamic thought which is very closely related to tradition, while the hermeneutics develops in a philosophical tradition that highly values freedom of thought more broadly. However, hermeneutics is very likely to be used as one of the approaches or tools in the science of interpretation, especially in understanding the verses of the Qur'an which are in the domain of ta'aqqulī or ghair ta'abbudī and ghair ta'aqqudī like the mu'amalah region whose reach is very wide.
