Abstract

Diarrhea is still the biggest cause of death in the world and is a pediatric social problem that often occurs in developing countries, including Indonesia. Diarrhea can cause complications including dehydration, hypovolemic shock, hypokalemia, seizures and malnutrition. The main cause of death from diarrhea in children is dehydration due to lack of electrolytes. Prompt and appropriate handling of diarrheal disease is the key so that infants and toddlers do not experience severe dehydration and cause death. This knowledge is important for mothers and families to have, because toddlers still cannot do everything by themselves. Increased knowledge can be done through education or health counseling. In the Tempit environment, some mothers do not understand how to make Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) to prevent dehydration. Therefore, it is necessary to do community service in the Tempit Environment, Ampenan Mataram City which is focused on educating families about the importance of fluids and how to make ORS for children with diarrhea. Family education activities consist of identifying the number of families with children under five, health education and evaluation activities. The number of families who participated in community service activities was 20 people. The evaluation of the activities showed that the family had understood how to make a solution of sugar salt and ORS properly and correctly. Education for mothers, families and communities about the importance of fluids and rehydration by making sugar salt solutions and ORS is important carried out continuously, in order to reduce morbidity and mortality in infants and toddlers with diarrhea.

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are diseases that are not transmitted and cannot be transmitted to other people by any form of contact that can cause death and kill 60% of all deaths globally and prevalence data in developing countries reaches 80%. Non-communicable diseases, especially cardiovascular diseases, cancer, chronic respiratory diseases, and diabetes mellitus are major threats to human health and development today. This community service aims to detect non-communicable diseases, namely screening for blood pressure, blood sugar levels (GDS), cholesterol, and uric acid, in the Padukuhan Pikgondang community, Condongcatur Village, Depok, Sleman, Yogyakarta. The types of activities carried out are in the form of health education, blood pressure checks, cholesterol levels, temporary blood sugar and uric acid. Blood pressure was measured using a sphygnomanometer and a stethoscope while the analysis of cholesterol, blood sugar and uric acid used a digital checking device. In this community service, screening and early detection of risk factors for non-communicable diseases have been carried out on 46 respondents, including 28 men and 18 women. The results of the examination showed that the average systolic blood pressure for men was 135 mmHg, while for women was 140 mmHg. The average diastolic blood pressure for men is 80 mmHg and women 80 mmHg and it can be seen that most residents have high blood pressure of 86.96% and 58.70% of residents have normal cholesterol levels (<200 mg/dl). The results of the GDS examination were 80.43% of residents had normal sugar levels (<200 mg/dl) and 73.91% of residents had normal uric acid levels (<7mg/dl). With the results of this screening, further follow-up will be obtained from the Depok II Public Health Center and can maximize the use of Posyandu as a place for screening non-communicable diseases and seek counseling and education about these non-communicable diseases.

Abstract

In Indonesia, many deaths are related to cigarette use. In addition, Indonesia is a country that uses a lot of cigarettes. The emergence of active smokers will increase the risk of passive smoking, especially in children. For this reason, education is needed, especially for caregivers about the harmful effects of smoking on children. The method used in this community service is lecture/education with leaflets delivered online. The results of this community service show an increase in 2 indicators. The indicator is able to mention harmful substances in cigarettes from 25% to 70%. While the second indicator, which states the dangers of smoking for children, increased from 60% to 70%. The conclusion of this community service is that education about the impact of smoking on children can increase the knowledge of caregivers and it is hoped that caregivers can prevent children from exposure to cigarette smoke. Suggestions for the next servant to be able to develop educational topics and educational models to increase public awareness, especially in the field of preventing smoking behavior.

Abstract

Communication is the most important key to building a good relationship between everyone. Delivering messages orally or in writing expects someone to be able to read or hear what is being said correctly. Effective communication is highly dependent on a person's skills in sending and receiving messages. The purpose of this community service is to improve the ability of cadres to communicate effectively to support their duties as family planning cadres. Implementation of activities by providing material on effective communication to 50 cadres in Panggungharjo Village using lecture, question and answer methods, and roleplay, using LCD Projector and Power Point media. Many participants asked questions related to effective communication techniques to solve problems and obstacles encountered in the field when providing communication, information, and education (CIE), as well as when motivating couples of childbearing age to use contraception. Effective communication training that explains the meaning, purpose, benefits of communication and barriers to communication can improve the ability of cadres to communicate effectively.

The results of the evaluation showed that the benefits of the application, discussion during the webinar, delivery of material, and the theme of the material were 93.75%; 92.5%, 93%; and 93.25%. The conclusion, this service activity is useful for midwives as a provision in providing health services in the pandemic. Midwives are expected to be able to take advantage of the REDI KB application which can be downloaded in the app store as an online counseling medium. Abstract

Scavengers play an important role in managing waste at the TPA because it helps reduce the amount of landfill piles so that it can extend the life of the landfill. The main tool used by scavengers to collect and transport trash is a basket made of bamboo slats. The basket uses a rope that is hung on one shoulder, and some are held above the head. The purpose of community service (PkM) is to produce ergonomic baskets that can reduce complaints of physical injuries to scavengers. This is done with anthropometric data, which is measuring the dimensions of the scavenger's body related to the use of baskets to get the appropriate basket size. The dimensions of the basket obtained are the length of the base = 38cm, the top of the basket = 50cm, the height of the basket = 51cm, and the length of the basket rope = 73cm. The implementation of the results of the redesign of the basket to the scavengers showed that complaints of stiffness/horror/stiffness/stiffness on the back and waist decreased by 100%, while complaints of stiffness/horror/stiffness/aches on the shoulders/shoulders decreased by 83.33%. The statistical difference test using Wilcoxon states that there is a very significant difference between before and after the design, P_value = 0.001.
