Abstract

The problems of this study were how is the implementation of Index Card Match in teaching descriptive text to the seventh grade students of MTs As saifiyah Syafiiyah and what are the students’ responses to Index Card Match in teaching descriptive text at the seventh graders of MTs As saifiyah Syafiiyah. The purposes of the study are to describe the implementation of Index Card Match in teaching descriptive text and to know the students’ responses to Index Card Match in teaching descriptive text. The research design was used descriptive qualitative. The research was conducted in MTs As Saifiyah Syafiiyah around 34 students. The data collection techniques are observation and questionnaire. The observation was used to describe the implementation of Index Card Match in teaching descriptive text and questionnaire was used to know the students’ responses to Index Card Match in teaching descriptive text. From the result, the Index Card Match made the students are active to try speaking English, although the first meeting more students are shy and fear to speak English. But, the second meeting the students more active, and enthusiasms. The students can speak English with fun, fluency, loudly without shy and fear. Students have been motivated to involve their speaking through Index Card Match. The students get way to apply speaking with their method.

Abstract

Code switching occurs in bilingual and multilingual community when a person switches from one language, variety, or dialect to another one. People can do code switching in any kinds of situation and domain. Social context influences someone to convey information by alternating different codes for communication. Code switching also occurs in the process of teaching and learning in the classroom by lecturers and students because they speak with more than one language. They can change or mix the language when they have the same perception of things or something that is being communicated.The researcher conducted this research to shows the kinds and the functions of code switching that used by English department student at Madura University, especially for seventh semester students when they were teaching practice in micro teaching. Because as candidates of teacher, student of seventh semester must follow micro teaching before they follow teaching practice program.This research is qualitative research by using descriptive case study. The data were collected by video recording while the participant of study having teaching practice in micro teaching. The result of this research indicate that most of the participant of study use situational code switching, and only some participant use metaphorical code switching. It means that teaching English process used Indonesian – English code switching. And the most functions that participant use is explanation function.The researcher also expected that this research will be able to help the readers know and understand about phenomena of code switching that occurs in bilingual or multilingual conversation, and to be useful for next researcher to conduct more comprehensive and more detail study especially relating about code switching.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the teachers’ understanding about literacy strategy in 2013 curriculum revision in Palengaan district This research design of this study is qualitative. This study focus on literacy strategy. The literacy can be defined as a set of cultivated skills and knowledge that serve as a basis for learning, communication, language use and social interaction. Literacy strategy (Directorate of guidance on vocational high school) is inseparable from education. Literacy becomes a means of learners in knowing, understanding, and applying the knowledge that is in school. Object of this study was that focus on response English teacher about literacy strategy, and took six samples of English teacher using interview and questionnaire. Based on the result of research it can conclude that from six subject of English teachers in vocational high school in Palengaan district has poor understanding, they ever heard about literacy strategy but they only said literacy strategy is one strategy from 2013 without knowing its essence. English teachers of vocational high school response in Palengaan district for literacy strategy in 2013 curriculum revision only two teachers give positive response because according to them the literacy strategy in 2013 curriculum is better than the previous curriculum, and four teachers give negative response because according to them literacy strategy is not effective and conducive in teaching-learning process.

Abstract

This study aim to answer: (1) What are of student’s difficulties and possible solution in English speaking at the ninth years grade of SMPI AL-KAROMAH SAMPANG? (2) What factors are causing student’s difficulties in English speaking at the ninth years grade of SMPI AL-KAROMAH SAMPANG?. The research design of this study is descriptive qualitative. The writer uses interview and observation as instrument of data. In this research, the researcher uses non participant observation, the writer only becomes an observer. The writer had taken part in class being observed. While participating as an observer, the writer observes what kinds of students’difficulties in English speaking and what are the causing factors students’ difficulties in English speaking. From the result of the observation, interview, and questionnaire the researcher concluded that most of the student at the ninth grade of SMPI Al-Karomah Sampang got difficulties in English speaking class here was caused by fear of mistakes, shyness, lack of motivation, and lack of confidence. And some of these factors are related to the learners themselves, the teaching strategies, the curriculum, and the environment.

Abstract

The researcher investigates the specific problems as follows: (1) What are the teachers’ difficulties in English instruction at MTS Raudhatul Ulum? (2) How do the teachers overcome those difficulties in English instruction at MTS Raudhatul Ulum? This research use descriptive qualitative method because the researcher describe the teachers’ difficulties in English instruction and how the teachers overcome their difficulties. In collection the data the researcher use two kinds of data collection: observation and interview (interactive technique). Data source taken from the observation and interview. The interview were distributed to 2 English teachers of MTS Raudhatul Ulum. Teachers get three main difficulties that become a problem in English instruction. They were the difficulty on students’ mindset, difficulty on students’ interest toward English, and the last were the difficulty on students’ ability, the teachers difficult to instruct the students when they taught in the classroom. 2. There are three ways that the researcher found to overcoming those difficulties. The first is the teachers give spirit, the second is the teacher mix the language, using Indonesian language and both Indonesian and English language, but sometime the teacher using Arabic language, and the last is the teacher using innovative strategies when they taught in the classroom.
