Abstract

The ambition of one man, namely Adolf Hitler, to initiating the massacre of the whole population of Jewish in Europe needed a pretext. In the age where the liberal thinkers and rationalist theology were wanning there had not been, seemingly, another way to mobilize the whole army of the disappointed German nationalist who lost their pride in WWI, rather than the religious narrative of the reestablishment of the Kingdom of God through the Aryan. Whether the pretext justified the massacre theologically, or the ambition served the theology coherently in praxis, is still debatable in nature. This writing will examine the formulation of theology of German church supporting the Hitler’s Third Reich, and other religio-political driven narrative in Europe, especially in Slavic nations. Finally, throughout multi political changes which happened in Indonesia in the last 300 years, what can churches do to avoid such a despicable move in relation to the government.

Abstract

The Book of Romans talks a lot about justification. Paul tells us that all humans have sinned. Meanwhile, wrath is a very terrible danger to sinners, that's why justification is a very meaningful gift for them. And the good news is that the loving God doesn’t allow humans to crumble in His wrath. God made a project for the salvation of man and Christ became the means of redemption that would enable man to be free from God's wrath. For those who are willing to accept His sacrifice, Jesus takes their place, where they are supposed to be punished. So that the justified have peace with God, access to God, glory in suffering and assurance of freedom from His wrath. The death of Jesus, in the past has liberated believers, is now giving hope, and in the future is ensuring the believers' salvation.

Abstract

Preaching is an honor, but it is also a challenging responsibility. Why? Because when preaching, one is dealing with the words and thoughts of God! Therefore, it is important for a preacher to carefully examine what the author of the text really meant. It would be a disgrace to say out loud: According to the apostle Paul or to refer to other writers and it turns out that is not what is meant. To find out the meaning of the text towards the ideal, of course, by exploring the original language of the text. The availability of various versions of the actual translation makes it easy, but it must be remembered that when the translation process takes place, the aspect of real interpretation plays a role.

Abstract

Yunus 1 is a book with a narrative genre. Several articles researched by the author, they agree that in Yunus 1 there is an irony figure of speech. However, from these articles, most of them only analyze and focus on studying the meaning of irony in Yunus 1 in depth. This study will discuss the figure of speech of irony in the Yunus 1 narrative as a theological construction in Yunus 1. The author uses a hermerneutic approach by paying attention to the narrative genre and using related literature. Exploration of meaning is also carried out by exegesis of the text of Yunus 1. This study aims to find the meaning of the ironic figure of speech in the narrative and to build the theology of Yunus 1 from that meaning. This article finds two antitheses, namely Yunus as the antithesis of the ideal prophet and the sailors as the antithesis of Yunus. The sailors met the true God through Jonah's disobedience. Another thing is in sync with Jonah's theology that God's grace applies to all nations including the sailors.

Abstract

The use of Old Testament citation in the New Testament is the usage commonly used by New Testament writers. Likewise, the use of Abraham and Rahab's narrative in the context of faith and works in James 2:14-26, needs to be understood correctly. So that the text does not cause misunderstandings in interpreting the meaning of the theology of faith and deeds described by James. The author in this case uses the exegesis method of using the Old Testament in the New Testament presented by Grant R. Osborne to find the significance of the use of Abraham and Rahab's narrative in the topic of faith and works (Jas. 2:14-26). The narratives of Abraham and Rahab are authoritative illustrations or examples to respond to the thesis that faith and works are two separate things. James shows that faith and works are inseparable in the life of a true Christian.
