Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between blood pressure, respiratory rate and resting pulse on body mass index in relation to the quality of life of structural workers. Samples were taken as many as 89 workers in the Bandung City Education Office, using simple random sampling technique. Data collection uses a questionnaire (WHOQOL-BREF Questionnaire) to measure quality of life, Body Mass Index is obtained from the results of a discretionary measurement of height and weight using the formula BW (kg) / TB (m2), blood pressure is measured using a Blood Pressure Monitor, while the frequency of breaths is measured by calculating the rate of breath that occurs when the subject inspires and expires air which is counted for one minute, and pulse is measured using a Pulse Oximeter. Statistical calculations using SPSS with Pearson partial correlation analytical statistics. Conclusion: First, there is a positive and significant relationship between BMI and quality of life on blood pressure with an R square value of 0.145 or 14.5% for systolic blood pressure and 0.259 or 25.9% for diastolic blood pressure. Second, there is no relationship between BMI and quality of life on resting pulse with an R square value of 0.027 or 2.7%. Third, there is no relationship between BMI and quality of life on respiratory rate with an R square value of 0.041 or 4.1%.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji peningkatan sikap toleransi siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran dengan penerapan penggunaan media sosial facebook dalam pembelajaran IPS dengan materi isu kontroversial. Pembelajaran IPS dirancang menggunakan media sosial facebook dengan materi isu konroversial sebagai landasan dalam mengembangkan rancangan kegiatan pembelajaran untuk meningkatkan sikap toleransi peserta didik berdasarkan isu-isu kontroverisal yang ada di media sosial facebook. Desain penelitian ini menggunakan nonequivalent Pretest dan Posttest control group design dengan populasi penelitian adalah seluruh siswa kelas VII yang terdaftar pada tahun ajaran 2019-2020. Adapun sampel yang digunakan dalam penelitian yaitu siswa kelas VII.3 sebagai kelas kontrol dan siswa kelas VIII.2 sebagai kelas eksperimen yang ditentukan melalui penggunaan teknik purposive sampling dalam pengambilan sampel penelitian. Peneliti membandingkan peningkatan sikap toleransi siswa dengan rata-rata hasil pretest dan posttest diantara kedua kelas dengan memberikan perlakuan yang berbeda. Kelas eksperimen memperoleh pembelajaran dengan menerapkan penggunaan media sosial facebook dengan materi isu kontroversial, sedangkan pada kelas kontrol memperoleh pembelajaran dengan menerapkan penggunaan media powerpoint. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan, penggunaan media sosial facebook dengan materi isu kontroversial dapat meningkatkan sikap toleransi siswa yang lebih baik dibandingkan pembelajaran dengan menggunakan media powerpoint.

Abstract

To have a good skill at social participation and problem-solving, students need to embed critical thinking (CT) skills as early as possible. This study aims to explore critical thinking aspects manifested by secondary school students in writing one type of argumentative text, i.e. analytical exposition. Six eleventh-grade students and a teacher of a private school in one city of Indonesia participated in this study. Adapting Paul and Elder’s (2008), Ennis’s (1996), and Watson and Glaser’s (2009) frameworks, six students’ analytical exposition texts were analyzed to match CT elements, dispositions, and abilities. Moreover, six students and one teacher were also interviewed in responding to how adherent the CT disposition possessed by students. The findings indicated that only two texts manifested all aspects of CT, despite, still feebly. Those texts are categorized as dominant manifestation texts. Lack of providing reasons and evidence to strengthen arguments was the shortcoming of most writers. This research study contributes to students’ writing and thinking enhancement and to teachers in polishing the learning instruction.

Abstract

This study aims at investigating the process of shaping teacher professional identity of English for Young Learners (EYL) teachers in elementary schools in Indonesia. This study also conducted to find out how the teachers reflect on their professional identity into their teaching practice. Employing narrative approach, this study focused on the narration of two participants’ stories, a male and a female novice teacher, on how their professional identity was constructed in the beginning of their career as EYL teachers. Semi-structured online interviews, photovoice and online classroom observation were administered to the participants in order to collect the data. The results suggest that participants’ teacher professional identity (TPI) was shaped by their significant life events, experiences in education, and interactions with students. Furthermore, this study has demonstrated a strong relationship between how teachers develop their professional identity and their belief about teaching EYL. Pedagogical implications of this study are also presented in this article.  Keywords: English for Young Learners (EYL), teacher Identity, Teacher Professional Identity (TPI), narrative inquiry.

Abstract

Kehadiran seorang anak yang normal adalah salah satu hal yang dinanti nanti oleh sepasang suami istri. Namun demikian sering juga terjadi keadaan dimana anak menunjukan masalah dalam perkembangan sejak usia dini. Salah satu contoh masalah yang dapat terjadi adalah munculnya gejala attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD). Ketika anak dinyatakan memiliki gejala ADHD biasanya timbul daftar tanpa akhir dari kemungkinan reaksi orang tua yang bisa berupa : kemarahan, malu, keprihatinan, kecemasan, penolakan, kebingungan, mengasihani diri sendiri, shock, ketakutan, kesedihan, stress dan berkabung. Dalam penelitian ini terdapat tiga orang tua yang mengalami proses penerimaan diri ketika anak-anaknya di diagnosis memiliki kecenderungan ADHD. Penerimaan diri sangat penting dimiliki oleh orang tua, karena hal ini bisa menjadi salah satu faktor untuk memberikan pengasuhan yang tepat dan terbaik bagi anak.Proses penerimaan diri yang dihadapi tiap orang tidak lah selalu sama. Dalam proses penerimaan diri ini orang tua melalui beberapa fase seperti sedih dan takut, stress, tidak  minder dan yang terakhir adalah bisa menerima perbedaan anak. Orang tua merasa sedih dan takut ketika pertama kali tahu bahwa anaknya memiliki gejala ADHD. Fase stress muncul ketika orang tua menyadari sulitnya mengasuh anak dengan gejala ADHD. Namun setelah fase stress ini terlewati orang tua mulai merasa tidak perlu minder dengan keadaan anak-anaknya. Setelah fase perasaan tidak minder akan keadaan anak dilewati, orang tua pada akhirnya dapat menerima secara emosional dan intelektual tentang perbedaan anaknya tersebut.
