Bullying may occur in the form verbal bullying. It often happens in late adolescent girls whosedifferent physical appearance compared to others, such as obesity. Bullying can negatively affectindividuals who experience it, both in long and short period of time. However, with the ability tobounce back from negative situations, an individual can recover from the adverse experiencecaused by verbal bullying. The aim of the study was resilience process using qualitative methodswith homogenous sampling to select the participants. Researcher used semi structured interviewstowards two late adolescent girls aged 18 to 21 years old who experienced verbal bullying becauseof obesity during the middle school (Sekolah Menengah Pertama) and high school (SekolahMenengah Atas). The results showed that two participants experienced negative effects because ofverbal bullying especially in their self-confidence and the ability to develop their skills. Allparticipants could adapt positively by involving protective factors from the environment andinternal resilience factors. Environment factors that helped the participants were from theirparents and friends. Internal factors that helped participants including spirituality, cognitive, physical, social and emotional factors. Both participants showed resilient integration as theirpositive adaptation. Abstract

Organizational communication has a substantial function to ensure good coordination forachieving organizational effectiveness. Leaders’ communication is an important aspect oforganizational communication, since the way leaders convey their messages would createframing and meaning for their employees about their jobs, their relations with other parts of theorganization, and the working climate. The meaning that employees perceive would have impacton their motivation and involvement to the job and the organization. When the formal system oforganizational communication has not been established yet, employees tend to rely oninformation from their direct leaders. This study aims to explore the description of leaders’communication as a part of organizational communication on PT AV, which has just developedthe formal working system with the limited number of employees. Six leaders from differentmanagerial levels participated to be interviewed in this study which is using a qualitativeapproach. Data was analyzed using theoretical framework of leaders’ communication fromJohansson, Miller and Hamrin (2014), includes initiating structure, facilitating work, relationaldynamic, and representing unit. The results showed that participants did not intensivelycommunicate with their staff regarding the structure of the staff tasks. Participants more relied onSOP and annual meeting. While SOP and job description was not well established yet, theparticipants’ lack of communication on structuring the staff tasks would potentially create lack ofroles and job clarity for staff. Other interesting result was that participants developed their staffsby giving challenging tasks. However, they did not explicitly say to their staff about the intendedmeaning and impacts of giving the tasks. Participants also did not know how their staffsperceived about the tasks. Because there was no open communication on the reason of givingchallenging tasks, it was potentially perceived by staff as additional burden for them. The findingsindicated leaders’ communication was not supported the formal organizational communicationsystem which was not optimally established yet in the organization. This would potentially createunclear and ambigu information received by staff.

Abstract

Dating Violence cases, which are categorized as gender based violence are increasing from timeto time in Indonesia. Gender becomes a social characteristic that individuals learn from themoment they are born and it is primarily being socialized by parents. This gender socializationthat one receives from early age until they reach adolescence stage, can play a role in shapingone’s perception and attitude towards male and female, especially regarding romanticrelationship context, including how adolescents see the use of violence in a relationship. This studyaimed to find out the relationship between gender socialization from parents and attitude towardsdating violence in male adolescents from 16-21 years old. This study used quantitative crosssectional design. The participants were 125 male adolescents who were living in Jabodetabek withparents and were obtained using convenience sampling. In this research, Gender-relatedSocialization Scale (Raffaeli & Ontai, 2004; α = 0.859) and Attitude towards Male DatingViolence (Price & Byers, 1999; α = 0.702-0.865) were used as data collection tools. From thisstudy, we found out there is a significant correlation between gender socialization from parentsand attitude towards dating violence, attitude towards physical, and also attitude towards sexualviolence. There was no significant correlation between gender socialization from parents andattitude towards psychological violence. We also found out that participants who were currentlyengaged in a relationship have a higher score in attitude towards sexual dating violence thanparticipants who were not in a relationship.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effect of listening to music with fast and slow tempo onundergraduate student’s attention. Music is used to accompany students in carrying out activitiesin daily life. The results of previous studies have shown that music can be a distraction when theywere doing their work, but other studies have shown that music has no effect on attention. Attentionis the first stage in the cognitive process, which is the starting point for a person’s cognitiveproesses to finally create a memory. In this study, an experiment with within-subject design wascarried out by listening to music with a different tempo when doing an attention test. Fourteenundergraduate students aged 21-23 years were involved in this study by completing 3 forms ofConcentration Grid Test in 3 different conditions, namely while listening to instrumental popmusic with fast tempo, slow tempo, and in a silence. The results of repeated measures ANOVAshowed that there was an effect of tempo on students’ attention with F(2.26) = 6.84, p<0.05. Theresults of the contrast analysis showed that participants who listened to instrumental pop musicwith a slow tempo had a significantly higher score that fast tempo (t = 3.433, p<0.01) and control(t = 2.908, p<0.01), but fast tempo instrumental pop music has no significant difference withcontrol (t = 0.525, p = 0.604). Thus, slow tempo music can increase the attention, but instrumentalpop music with fast tempo does not distract the students.
