Abstract

A strong fear of one or more social situations where one might be subject to criticism and scrutiny from others is a sign of social anxiety disorder. Untreated social anxiety disorder symptoms have been linked to risky conduct, including risky sexual activity, abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs, which peaks throughout the emerging adulthood stage. The key variables that contribute to the symptoms of social anxiety disorder are self-focused attention and negative social cognition, according to a number of cognitive theories. This study looked at the effects of self-focused attention and negative social cognition on social anxiety disorder symptoms in emerging adults in Indonesia. This study's design was a correlational study, and convenience sampling was used to choose participants who were between the ages of 18 and 25 and had at least a high school diploma. The Social Cognitions Questionnaire (SCQ), Self-Consciousness Scale (SCS), and Social Phobia Inventory (SPIN) were made available online to gather data. There were 124 people in all that took part in the study. The results of the multiple regression test reveal that while self-focused attention is not connected with social anxiety, negative social cognition significantly contributes to it. To research the connection between self-focused attention and symptoms of social anxiety disorder in Eastern nations, cultural factors like self-construal can be looked into.

Abstract

Women often receive comments about their bodies as they gain weight, which increases the risk of developing a negative body image and damage the identity formation process during adolescence. These obstacles will impact the emerging adulthood developmental stages. This study aims to describe body image and body image formation factors in emerging adult women who experienced significant weight gain from being underweight during adolescence. Qualitative research was conducted, involving three adult female participants aged 18-25 years, who were classified as underweight during adolescence, experienced significant weight gain, had either underweight or normal Body Mass Index (BMI), and had a negative body image based on the Multidimensional Body-Self Relational Questionnaire-Appearance Scales (MBSRQ-AS). The three participants were selected through purposive criterion sampling. Data was collected through semi structured interviews, which were then analyzed using thematic analysis. The results showed that all three participants were dissatisfied with specific body parts due to the desire to achieve their ideal body weight. This dissatisfaction affected theparticipants’ efforts to present themselves and control their weight. These views were formed from individual experiences during adolescence, which persisted into emerging adulthood and were greatly influenced by interpersonal factors and cultural socialization factors.

Abstract

Marriage through the method of “ta’aruf” has become popular recently. Considering that the process of marriage conducted thorugh “ta’aruf” is different from the conventional marriage process, it is interesting to examine it from the perspectives of self disclosure and marital adjustment. The aim of this study is to describe the influence of self disclosure and marital adjustment on the marital quality of couples who undergo “ta’aruf” marriage. The study employs a quantitative approach, and the participants consist of 32 respondents who are married through the “ta’aruf” method, comprising both males and females. Three measurements are utilized in this study: The Indonesian Moslem Marital Quality Scale; Self Disclosure and Relational Outcomes; and the Marital Adjustment Questionnaire. Multiple regression analysis is used as the analytical method to test the hypotheses. The findings show a significant influence of self disclosure on the marital quality of couples who marry through the “ta’aruf” method. Marital adjustment also significantly affects the marital quality of such couples. Also both self disclosure and marital adjustment have an impact on the marital quality of couples who undergo “ta’aruf” marriage. The implications of this study suggest that couples who marry through “ta’aruf” can achieve good marital quality similar to couples who opt for other methods. However, it is advisable for prospective couples who are still in the “ta’aruf” process to go deeper into understanding each other and seek information from books or literature about marriage in Islam as an effort to prepare for a higher quality marriage.

Anxiety that exists in students can cause negative impacts that can harm students. Based on the previous research, it has been found that a sense of humor has a relationship with anxiety and can help overcome this anxiety. Therefore, this study aims to determine the relationship between a sense of humor and anxiety feltby active students at Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia (Unika). The study used a quantitative approach with a correlation research design. The subjects of this study were 396 active students at Unika Atma Jaya. The research instruments used were the Multidimensional Sense of Humor Scale (MSHS) to measure Sense of Humor and the Hamilton Anxity Rating Scale (HAM-A) to measure anxiety. The results of this study were that there was no significant relationship between Sense of Humor and the anxiety felt by active students at Unika Atma Jaya.

Abstract

Although work-life balance is not a new topic, the multidimensional perspective of work life balance has not been extensively studied. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the relationship between the dimensions of work-life balance and work engagement among employees, using a multidimensional perspective of work-life balance. This study used a qualitative approach, distributing online questionnaires to 37 participants, utilizing the Work Life Balance Scale andthe Utrecht Work Engagement Scale version 9 as measurement tools. Data analysis was conducted using Pearson’s Correlation statistical technique. The findings of the study showed a significant positive correlation between the demands dimension of work-life balance and work engagement. Similarly, a significant positive correlation was indicated between the resources dimension of work-life balance and work engagement. These findings suggest that studying work-life balance from a multidimensional perspective helps to achieve a more specific understanding of work-life balance, particularly in relation to work engagement. The multidimensional model of work-life balance is encouraged to be more widely used in the future research studies.

Abstract

Work life balance is a situation where employees can balance their work or work with other commitments through the freedom to use their working hours. One of the benefits of employees having a work life balance is increasing physical health, mental health and increasing job satisfaction. However, it turns out that most people when they enter the world of work lose balance in their lives. the results of interviews conducted by one of the researchers with several sales, so high the targets or demands as salesperson make them have to work hard even outside working hours so that they arereluctant to work and feel burdened by the responsibilities that have been assigned. This study aims to find out and analyze the relationship between the demands dimension and the resources dimension of work life balance with job satisfaction in sales. The sampling technique in this study was accidental sampling. This study uses a correlational quantitative research approach. Data was obtained from 195 salespeople who are domiciled in Indonesia using Fisher's (2009) WLB scale measurement tool adapted by Gunawan et al. (2019) and Spector's JSS (1997) which was adapted by Zulfikar (2016). The results showed that there was a significant negative relationship between demands and job satisfaction (r = -0.520; p = 0.000) and there was a strong positive significant relationship between the resourcesdimension and job satisfaction (r = 0.334 and p = 0.000). Further research results will be discussed in the research discussion.

Abstract

Self-evaluation evolves because of all the experiences they have; experiences can alter selfevaluation. Indonesian children may encounter developmental disruption in the form of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE), leading to increased self-criticism and negative self-assessment. On the other hand, there are various protective characteristics against adverse childhood experiences, one of which is attachment styles, which urge researchers to perform study on the association between ACE and self-criticism mediated by attachment styles in early adult individuals. The ACE Questionnaire, Levels of Self-Criticism, and Relationship Style Questionnaire were used to assess ACE, self-criticism, and attachment styles, which were then moderately analyzed using PROCESS. 223 participants' data (ranging from 19 to 40 years old) were gathered via digital forms. The results of the moderation calculation revealed that ACE was considerably positively connected to the level of self-criticism. Attachment styles—negative with Secure and positive with Preoccupied, Fearful, and Dismissing—have a major impact on one's level of self-criticism. Individuals who experience ACE and have an attachment style of Dismissingare more prone to experience strong Internalized Self-Criticism. Including ACE characteristics such as socioeconomic position, bullying, or peer rejection in the calculation might broaden the picture of ACE and highlight their distinct impact on self-criticism levels.
